Hello Dbloom803 and welcome. I see from the Feedback Dashboard that you have a question about adding an author to Writers from SC. I'd be glad to help you but I'd need more info an what you'd like to do. There is no article List of writers from South Carolina. Are you wanting to add an article to Category:Writers from South Carolina? Message me if you would like further assistance. Herostratus (talk) 17:03, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

re Janna McMahan

[edit]

Hi Dbloom803. It's not game over yet. I'm going to take a crack at gussying up the article some, hope this is OK with you. Herostratus (talk) 03:13, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at it now. It needs more work. In the section "Works and career" (maybe need a better name for that, IDK) I'm thinking something like:

McMahan writes fiction of (brief description of what her stuff is like, maybe mentioning her working-class background or whatever). Her first novel (name) (very brief description) was described as "(description)" by (publication). Her second novel... (etc.)

But we need references for all that! This might be hard to get. Some general notes:

  • I don't know if this person is notable enough to have an article. See WP:NAUTHOR for our guidelines. She probably is, based on publishing three novels and, most particularly, having a best-seller (Snow Angels, even though really she was kind of piggybacking on Fern Michaels there). But it's marginal, and we need to make our case.
  • Need more refs! Can't use her own website as a reference. Southern Artistry has a bio -- but it looks to be just copied from her website, so no good. I think we can find some, but it'll take some digging. Wish we had that Herald-Journal article online ("Adversity Pushes Author to Write". Herald-Journal (Spartanburg, South Carolina): C2. March 9, 2008.) You don't have access to a hard copy do you? In a library maybe?
  • What would be golden would be a review of one her books in the Charleston paper. Or any paper.

Oh here's a good one: [1]. Has her hometown too. Can use a ref for some of the awards etc. here is a ref for the Flannery O'Connor award thingy, good. Signing off now, passing the ball back to you for now.

But those are blogs etc. and likely to be challenged. See WP:RS for our rules on what is a reliable source. What I'd really like to see, as I said, is stuff in real newspapers.

To be continued. Herostratus (talk) 05:25, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Janna McMahan, a page you created has not been edited in at least 180 days. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements. Your article submission Janna McMahan

[edit]

Hello Dbloom803. It has been over six months since you last edited your article submission, entitled Janna McMahan.

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note, however, that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Janna McMahan}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 22:02, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to continue working on the Janna McMaham page. A wikipedia page is so hard to do that I keep putting it off to another day. DBloom

I restored it to User:Dbloom803/Janna McMahan. However, please actually work on it (your last edit to it had been about 2 years ago) to make it become a viable article. Userspace is not an indefinite holding-pen (some editors get concerned if userspace starts to look like a way to trick the system into hosting content that was already rejected).
