[edit]

Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that in this edit to White-naped tit, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 07:25, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't add your name to articles. If someone wants to find out who took the photo, they can look it up on the Commons page. I think you will notice that there are little to no mentions of the photographer on article pages. Also, you removed useful content to add your photo. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 07:27, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I am going to remove some of your edits as they are not referenced. Adding references is how we ensure that content is valid. Without references, a reader can not easily validate information and there is no presumption of accuracy. See Help:Referencing for beginners and Help:footnotes. This is covered by the Wikipedia policy of wp:verifiability (WP:V). Please wp:cite your edits with wp:reliable sources (RS). Per WP:V unsourced content can be removed. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 07:30, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced edits

[edit]

You will notice on your alerts that I undid a few of your edits.

  • Spotted sandgrouse said they had returned after a 20 year absence. This needs a source.
  • Lesser flamingo. I left the image, but undid the addition of the paragraphs as they were unsourced.
  • Sykes's warbler, you mentioned that their behavior is "similar". Is there a source for this?
  • greater flamingo, you added According to Mokarsagar Wetland Conservation Committee, Porbandar hosts more than 10000 Greater Flamingos every year. Please link a reference and replace the text.

If you would like some assistance adding references, I would be willing to help. If you look just above the top of the edit box, you will see (if enabled) > Advanced > Special characters > Help > Cite. If you click on "Cite", another bar will appear and you can click on "Templates" to get "cite web", "cite news" (for newspapers) "cite book", and "cite journal" (for academic journals). See wp:template, template:cite web, template:cite journal, template:cite book. Hope this helps.

Also, for images, see wp:images. One can create a zoom-in on a photos. Jim1138 (talk) 07:47, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at Bob Hoover. If you click on the top image on the page, you will see that it is a zoom-in on a person. The code is {{Annotated image |image= Bob Hoover July 2011.jpg |annotations= |width= 280 |height= 370 |image-left= -340 |image-top= -220 |image-width= 850 |caption= Bob Hoover in 2011}} See template:annotated image. This is rather tricky to use. It can be good to show a small portion of a photo without having to crop the photo. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 07:51, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarked images

[edit]

Hi Dhaval Vargiya, you will note that I have reverted the majority of your image additions because the images are watermarked (i.e., they carry a signature). Please have a look at WP:WATERMARK. Images used on Wikipedia are intended to be free for reuse by anyone, as long as they are correctly attributed, but they are not meant to serve as a means of advertisement; including the photographer's name on the image itself goes against that intention. Your authorship should be clearly stated in the image information at Commons (as is the case with your photos) but not on the images itself. This actually also applies to the image title; your name should not feature in it. - If you can, please replace these photos on Commons with versions without any kind of watermark or attribution in the title. The photos are clearly of high quality, and it would be a shame not to be able to use them in articles because of this restriction! Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 13:10, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
