Hello, Dmcl404, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to Herodotus does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Alcmaeonid (talk) 16:03, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, I was indefinitely blocked about half a year ago for sock-puppetry (good-hand bad hand editing), personal abuse, and other things. The personal abuse was after I was blocked and was not typical of my edits. I understand that it was wrong to do what I did and I believe that 6 months was a long enough block to teach me my lesson and now it feels punitive. I tried to 'clean start' but was caught out by an auto-block since I had logged in to see if I was still blocked. There is much I know about Wikipedia and I wish to help build the encyclopaedia once more. I would even consent to regular Check User checks to ensure I am not re-abusing my privileges. I also want to ask if I can do a 'Clean Start' without it being seen as an evasion of my block. Would such a clean start need to include a short block to show that I was once a vandal and shouldn't be trusted as stipulated by the relevant guidelines? Also, if I can't have a clean-start but can be unblocked could it please be the Arfaest Ealdwritere account (my main account on which I can't edit my talk page) which is unblocked - this one and the others can remain blocked as once I am unblocked I will have no need for them. Dionysus (talk) 14:41, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

WP:Clean start says under the heading "Users who may not have a clean start": Any user who has active bans, blocks or sanctions (including, but not limited to those listed here); or is being or about to be formally discussed for their conduct; or is attempting to evade scrutiny, may not have a clean start. So your attempted "clean start" is in fact sockpuppetry and block evasion. I will consequently indef-block this account. You should request your original account to be unblocked, with a reference to this one. Huon (talk) 14:58, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I think this minor copyedit might help you on your way more than the helpme tag. Primefac (talk) 14:48, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. Dionysus (talk) 14:49, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Huon, How can I do what you say when I can't even edit my own talk page on the main account? THIS talk page is my only method of communication. Also if I were trying to 'evade' my block, I wouldn't have confessed. Can't you see that this is someone trying to write a past wrong and is being blocked by a clique? Anyway, in accordance with what you say, I hereby formally request the unblocking of Arfæst Ealdwritere so that, using that account, I may re-contribute to Wikipedia. Dionysus (talk) 15:03, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Firstly, talk page access for User talk:Arfæst Ealdwrítere was not revoked. Secondly, this account was well-known to be a sock and listed in the sockpuppetry investigation; apparently the closing admin simply forgot to block it. That doesn't mean editing with it wasn't block evasion and sockpuppetry, though - and it's definitely not a "clean start" since it was created and started editing before Arfæst Ealdwrítere got blocked in the first place. Huon (talk) 15:41, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Huon, I have the right to change my unblock request at any time and I did so before you responded and closed the request. Please respond to the one that was current at the time. Here it is again for your convenience: "I am unable to appeal for an unblock on User talk:Arfæst Ealdwrítere because I have been blocked from editing my own talk page. This talk page is my only means of communication. Furthermore, I am sorry that I tried to 'clean start', having been away from Wikipedia for so long has made me unsure of some of its policies. I am no longer asking for a 'clean start' now that I understand the guidelines and that it is wrong. I ask that User:Arfæst Ealdwrítere is unblocked and that I may once again contribute responsibly to the encyclopaedia. Everyone will be able to see my past offences and hopefully will have it in their hearts to give me a second chance because I have so much to offer. I have also waited the required time and I wish to demonstrate that I can, and have, changed. I have been nothing less than completely upfront with you all. Peace." Also, can you please at least allow me to edit the other talk page so I can follow the official unblocking guidelines? Dionysus (talk) 15:49, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, you may not remove the previous declined unblock requests. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:35, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if you were offended. But you didn't actually address any of my points. Please just tell me, what else do I need to do to show that I am sorry? Is 6 months not a long enough punishment? Surely all it would take to give me a second chance is just one click and if I abuse my privileges I could be blocked immediately. Dionysus (talk) 18:57, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for getting the summary of your request wrong; I copy-pasted it from an apparently outdated version of the unblock request I had open in another tab. The answer remains the same, though: Your original account's talk page access was never revoked, and you have not tried to "clean start" in any meaningful way. Huon (talk) 19:49, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean? I thought I wasn't allowed to 'clean start'??? What I am asking for is just an unblock, not a clean record. Also, I have just logged into my main account and can reconfirm that I am blocked from editing my own talk page. I think your records are wrong. As for the justification for the continuation of this block, I see none. This block has gone from being a deterent to being a punishment. For your reference, the wiki-policy on 'clean starts' see WP:CLEANSTART which clearly says that I am not permitted to make any 'clean start', meaningful or not, whilst blocked so I do not understand why you would refuse to unblock me in response to me following the guidelines. Also, are you a Check User? As per WP:CUBL it should be a Check User reviewing my request since I was blocked by one. Also if anyone rejects my appeal, could you at least consider changing the block from indefinite to something more definite? And perhaps lay down precisely what I am required to do to be unblocked? Thanks Dionysus (talk) 19:51, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What they are trying to tell you is that you can sign in as Arfæst Ealdwrítere and edit the talk page there. With this account, you can only edit here. With your original account, you can only edit there. And it's there that the request must be made. Peridon (talk) 21:36, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification

[edit]

Since there seems to be much confusion about my other account's rights to edit its own talk page I have logged out of this account, logged into that one, went to its talk page, tried to edit, and got this message:

"You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia. You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them.

Editing from DJAMP4444 [Also known as Arfæst Ealdwritere] has been blocked (disabled) by DeltaQuad for the following reason(s): Wikipedia Checkuser.svg CheckUser evidence has determined that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely to prevent abuse. Administrators: CheckUsers are privy to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy, and therefore must be consulted before this block can be removed. Administrators undoing checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser risk having their administrator rights removed by the Arbitration Committee (per this announcement).

Comprimised Account per user talk. Checkuser must be consulted for unblock. This block has been set to expire: no expiry set."

I don't really understand why you think I can edit it when I clearly can't. Dionysus (talk) 21:44, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK. That's a checkuser thing and only one of them can change it. @DeltaQuad: Peridon (talk) 21:56, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To DQ - please see User talk:DJAMP4444. I'm getting confused here.... Time for bed. Peridon (talk) 22:01, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
