Encyclopedic iinks, "how-to" material, and self-published works[edit]

Glad you've joined as an editor (and being a participant in WP:WikiProject Cats which you might like as well, I'm happy to see a new cats-oriented editor). However, please see our policies on promotional links vs. appropriate external links, and Wikipedia not being a how-to site nor an indiscriminate Web directory. We don't add links to misc. websites of guidance on things like how to select a cat breed, diets promoted for specific breeds, advice on exercising pets, etc. Self-published websites do not qualify as reliable sources. Please check out these guidelines and policies. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines.
