Sources for Symphyotrichum[edit]

Hi, I'm just wondering if you have come across any good sources about Symphyotrichum in general. The genus article is really lacking, but it's hard to find any solid summary information. I'm aware of FNA and Semple's site, but thought you may have come across some other useful resources? Thanks! Somatochlora (talk) 16:10, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Do you mean for adding info to the article, because that will depend on the section you want to work on (per the Taxon Template in Plants Project), or just in general? --Eewilson (talk) 18:32, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Adding info to the article overall as it is currently extremely bare-bones. I have come across very very few sources that say anything about Symphyotrichum generally, rather than a specific species (presumably partially because the genus is so new). I thought you might have come across some good sources with all the research you've done on lateriflorum. No worries if you don't have anything in particular, just thought I'd ask! Somatochlora (talk) 18:42, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! you may have to put it together from multiple sources. I'd use Nees' protologue in taxonomy for the initial description, add to it with FNA, and Flora of the Chicago Region (2017) has a fun (and good) summary of the genus including things that could go in ecology. Email me and I can send you some things! Special:EmailUser/EewilsonEewilson (talk) 19:06, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So now I just wait.... :)[edit]

@Casliber: So now I just wait, right? I hate waiting... –Eewilson (talk) 13:44, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You could review someone else's...take a look at Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations#Biology_and_medicine. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 19:49, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve been creating a few. I guess I could always do a first review. - Eewilson (talk) 03:05, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Casliber: There is a short plant species article recently nominated, Hypericum sechmenii. A few days ago after the nominator posted on the PLANTS talk page, I made some minor edits (although I didn't mark it as a minor edit). Just added some Wikilinks, moved Description section above Taxonomy, and clarified a couple of sentences. Is that too much editing involvement for me to pick it up for GA review? –Eewilson (talk) 04:47, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They look like trivial edtis to me - go for it Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 05:04, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GA review?[edit]

@Peter coxhead: Do you do GA reviews? Trying to recruit someone to review a page I nominated for GA: Symphyotrichum lateriflorum. —Eewilson (talk) 10:40, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have done in the past, but I'm very tied up with other stuff at present, particularly the issue mentioned at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Plants#References to the BSBI 2007 list of English names. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:59, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Peter coxhead: Okay. Well, if you get free or know of another reviewer and can give them a nudge... I'm sure I'm just impatient. Eewilson (talk) 03:50, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I owe you one![edit]

@Eewilson: thank you for all of your help in getting Hypericum sechmenii to Good Article status! I am so grateful that I had a patient, knowledgeable, and industrious reviewer to guide me through the process. For your assistance and for your myriad other contributions to the wiki, I offer you my thanks and, as a small token of my appreciation, the Biology Ribbon. Fritzmann2002 T, c, s, t 20:20, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep me in mind if you ever need a hand with anything! I certainly owe you one and would jump at the chance to work with such a collaborative and good-natured editor such as yourself. Best of luck in your own GA nomination! Fritzmann2002 T, c, s, t 20:20, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fritzmann2002: Thank you! It's still needing review, and I would be open to any and all input of it, so feel free to give it a read and let me know (honestly) anything that needs work. Or if you would like to tackle your first review (I don't necessarily mean of Symphyotrichum lateriflorum), they do ask that you review 2 for every one you submit for GA. There are GA review mentors available, and after you review, you can get a 2nd opinion like I did. Or, I think that now that you have a foundation for some of the items in Hypericum articles, you could do some updates to the two most similar species to H. sechmenii. Remove the similarities table and replace with the text you wrote, for one, adjusting it accordingly per each species. —Eewilson (talk) 20:29, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for peer review help[edit]

Hi Eewilson. I hope you are doing well and staying safe during these times! Apologize to bother and posting a random request. I have just started to work on a stub (Fontainea Venosa)and had added some sections. I am trying my best to get the article to B class hopefully. Knowing your expertise, I would love if you can help me to review and left a comment on what I can do to improve my edits. I hope that this is okay, but no pressure if you are busy. That is completely fine and understandable :) Hope to hear from you soon. The article is Fontainea Venosa

Thank you so much :) Sparklingkull (talk) 01:45, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank you for the message. I’m tied up this week, but can look at it next week if that wait works for you. Eewilson (talk) 14:43, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Thank you. Just to let you know I may be a little slow to reply through Sunday, but I’ll do the best I can. Appreciate it! Eewilson (talk) 14:41, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Symphyotrichum lateriflorum[edit]

The article Symphyotrichum lateriflorum you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Symphyotrichum lateriflorum for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Well done![edit]

The Plantae Barnstar
For taking Symphyotrichum lateriflorum from a measly old stub in June last year to GA status through hard work over many months. Your patience while waiting for review is also to be commended. Well done! Dracophyllum 08:28, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Dracophyllum: Thank you SO MUCH! You have been a pleasure to work with, really! I couldn't have asked for a better reviewer. I had to go and look at the history of the article. It WAS a Stub when I began! I had forgotten that. :)Eewilson (talk) 13:27, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Hi, Eewilson I saw your dyk nom and I was thinking that one possibility for the hook is something to do with its use by Native Americans. For example: ...that Symphyotrichum lateriflorum (pictured) has been used by the Meskwaki people as a cure for the insane?

Dracophyllum 00:05, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dracophyllum: It's a thought! I don't like the wording "cure for the insane," as that's not what the source says, but I'll see what I can come up with for another alt. Thanks! Hey, I'm supposed to review a DYK before mine can get finalized, correct? —Eewilson (talk) 02:03, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to but it's a good thing to do - yes. Dracophyllum 02:39, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
