researcher flag

[edit]

Hello FaFlo, in 2015 a special flag (researcher) was added to your account for a project. This flag is for accessing certain histories of deleted pages. Are you still working on this project and require this continuing access? Please reply here or on my talk page. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 01:02, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Xaosflux, yes, although I do not in practice access deleted revisions or other sensitive DB entries, I'm still using this. The purpose: It also grants special access to the Wikimedia API, so that we/I can access more revisions with Wikitext content in a single API request for our service wikiwho.org, on which we and also the community relies for tools they have built (e.g. xtools, Wiki Edu dashboard, WhoWroteWhat extension) FaFlo (talk) 13:08, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@FaFlo: thank you for the update, was just doing a periodic review. There are probably more "appropriate" ways to do this now, but there is no pressing need to address it. One way would be to use a reading-only bot flagged account (as it includes the (apihighlimits) access it sounds like you are using. If you'd like to discuss that further please let me know. — xaosflux Talk 16:32, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important notice: You are making a lot of login requests

[edit]

Hello,

my name is Martin Urbanec and I am a Wikimedia system administrator. We've noticed your bot makes a lot of login requests (~5 % of all login requests).

We would like to ask you to be considerate of other users (including other bot operators), as well as about our infrastructure. Please make sure your bot makes use of session, or use other mechanisms like OAuth to reduce the amount of requests you receivesend.

If you have any question, or if you want to learn more about the context of this message, please see phab:T256533.

Best,
--Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:16, 28 August 2020 (UTC) Delivered via MediaWiki message delivery (talk)[reply]

Hello, I would like to remind myself. Please be considerate of other users and bot operators. Your account may be blocked without further warning if you do not fix this issue. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 08:40, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't see the message, I thought we fixed it. Will investigate right now. FaFlo (talk) 11:33, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The bot now started to login more than twice per second. That's enormous number of login requests. Your account has been temporarily disabled. Please fix the issue and let me know, so access can be restored. You can talk to me either via Wikimedia Phabricator, or via martin.urbanec@wikimedia.cz. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:17, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
