Sindhi[edit]

Salaam Fahad Sahib, I hope you are doing well. I have restored the Devanagari script on the Sindhi language article. Like Punjabi, Sindhi is written in two scripts, in this case, Devanagari and Perso-Arabic. I do recognise that the language is written in both scripts, however, the use of Sindhi language is mainly confined to the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Sindhi language, as written in the Devanagri script and as spoken in India, is not very mutually intelligible with Sindhi in Pakistan and is only spoken by some Sindhi migrant tribes there. Sindhi speakers in Pakistan are around 55 million native where the Perso-Arabic script is used. The Perso-Arabic script of the Sindhi language is internationally recognised and is registered with the UN's language register. While Sindhi in the Devanagri script in India might be known internationally, it is not officially recognised at the UN, AI or elsewhere. The use of Devanagri script for Sindhi is also disputed in India and is not widely accepted as you may well know. Please refer to [[1]] for additional reference. Thank you for your reply. I am glad to know that you are doing well! I recognize that the Perso-Arabic script is used by a greater number than Devanagari, which is why I agree that Perso-Arabic should be placed before the Devanagari script. As for mutual intelligibility, the situation would be similar for Punjabi. The Punjabi spoken in India might have more Sanksritic influence than the Punjabi spoken in Pakistan, which has more Persian influence; both however are mutually intelligible. Ethnologue, which is used to categorise the various language articles at Wikipedia also mentions both scripts (reference). Moreover, the reference which you have provided also mentions the use of Devanagari as well as the Perso-Arabic script. In light of these facts, I think it is a good idea to retain the Devanagari script in the lede of the article, although we should always place it after Perso-Arabic (even in examples such as articles on Sindhis, such as L. K. Advani). If you still respectfully disagree, we can start an WP:RFC or contact WP:THIRD. Let me know! Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. -- Yeah that's okay. Yeah I agree with the case in Punjabi. I'm Punjabi myself and the version we speak is Western Panjabi which is distinct from Eastern Punjabi dialects spoken in India. Even though only the Perso-Arabic script of Sindhi is politically recognised, one can not ignore the other script in use, even though in minority. Keeping that in mind, we can leave the article as it is with both scripts in the respective order of significance which you mentioned. I hope that satisfies the issue and thank you for your cooperation on this. I speak more Farsi than Urdu so I'm slightly weak in interpreting what you said but I know it's a Du'a and Ameen to that. Thank you Fahad! Eastern Punjabi is actually spoken in both India and Pakistan; the same variant is actually spoken in Lahore and Amritsar and is known as the Majhi dialect. Wiki Loves Monuments - Pakistan[edit]

Wiki Loves Monuments, the world's largest photography competition, will be taking place in Pakistan this September. The competition is all about capturing the cultural monuments and heritage sites of Pakistan and uploading these images on Commons to create an online repository which will be freely available to all.
