Jasmia Robinson

[edit]

Hi there.

I heard you were having a few problems with a draft article, so I'm trying to help sort things out. I hope I can clarify.

The draft article is in User:Freshstrawberry/Jasmia Robinson. That is, in a user sub-page. That is the one you should work on.

I have edited your user page, and added a link to that page, and others. You can always get to your user page by clicking on your user-name at the top of all Wikipedia pages - so, it is quite handy.

What I specifically did, on your user-pace, was added links like this;

*Robinson
*sandbox
*test page
*else

The asterisks just make bullet-points.

Putting a page-name in brackets like that makes a wiki-link. Same as if I put e.g. Sausage, it makes a link to the page sausage. Or User:Chzz, to link to my own user page - User:Chzz.

The subpage names of "My sandbox", "My test page", and "Something else" are just things I made up. You could edit the user page and change them, if you wanted. Also, note that they are in red - because they don't yet exist; but you can click on them to create them.

I hope that helps clarify that bit.

As regards the draft article - you need to add references after each fact - so we can see where each piece of information comes from. So, you need to write things such as;

Jasmia was born in Hackney.

All the facts need a reliable source, so that the person reading the article can check it.

I hope that helps. Sorry if you've been confused; Wikipedia can be pretty challenging at first.

If you need any more help, please just put helpme right here, on your user talk page, and ask your question.

Cheers!  Chzz  ►  17:52, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and introduction

[edit]

Hi, Freshstrawberry. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  17:52, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
 • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
 • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put helpme and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
 • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
 • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Referencing

[edit]

How references work

[edit]

Simple references

[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.

He likes tea.
b) A section called "References" with the special code "reflist";
References
reflist

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Freshstrawberry/reftest and try it out.

Named references

[edit]
Chzz was born in 1837.

Chzz lives in Footown.

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

[edit]

You can put anything you like between , but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals.

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

You might want to consider viewing this. It may help make your references look a little more unified with the rest of Wikipedia. I'm Flightx52 and I approve this message 01:01, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
