RFA thanks

Thank you, Giggy/Archive, for your constructive comments in my recent RFA, which passed with 86 support, 8 oppose, and 5 neutral !votes. I will keep in mind all your suggestions and/or concerns, and will try to live up to your standards. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as soon as I possibly can, without frying my brain, of course.
Thank you once more,

Typo on your userpage (Thanks!)

Sorry for the typo incident, G1ggy; I had never seen australian english before... But, thanks a lot for taking it easy and not leaving me a grumpy message or something of the sort on my talk page! Have a nice day and happy editing, Tom@sBat 00:39, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the AoE banner to Sky Passage and rating it! Captain panda 02:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome.

You're welcome! The person who vandalized your page also vandalized a load of other user pages. I gave them an only warning and they seem to have stopped (for the moment anyway). Acalamari 23:29, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Oops. I made a mistake and put "April 2007" on their talk page. I've just changed that. Still getting used to the new month! Heh, heh. :) Acalamari 23:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
You're right; I should have gone straight to AIV with that vandal. Seven cases of vandalism...foolish me. Thanks for reporting them. Acalamari 23:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Excellent. :) It was a vandalism-only account anyway. Acalamari 16:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

adoption

1 = most other people where not messaging users and many of the users had been there for a LONG time.
2 = i'm not trying to take all the adoptee, i just wanted to make sure they had someone they could turn to if they needed a question answered. 3 = i'd be more then happy to give you as many as you would like, just let me know. I have more then enough and would be pleased if you could help me out. let me know how many and if you would like beginners or users that are past that and need to learn about the manual of style and policy and whatnot.
let me know whatcha thing, thank you for your time. Matthew Yeager 05:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

adoptees

Tsukikosagi as well as Enam_Esru are available for you to guild and adopt. they have both been pretty quiet, let me know if this is good with you or if you only want 1 or if you can handle more... just let me know what i can do for you. Matthew Yeager 06:28, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

That's cool. Thanks for your time. Tsukikosagi 14:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I am not quite sure why you speedy closed this- I agree it should be kept, but the AfD should run its course, for now. I am reopening it. J Milburn 15:54, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Lankybugger has, quite rightly, IMHO, raised this as a small but, in view of what may be perceived by some as the relative dearth of your contributions, not entirely insigificant concern on your RfA, and so I wonder if you would, at your convenience, offer a bit of an explanation for that close either on RfA's talk page or infra to Lanky's comment. I, for one, see no particular reason not to support your request (having not seen many similar actions as this in your contribution history), but I'm hoping to be reassured that, qua admin, you'd not IAR inappropriately (as with this close; to be sure, though, erring on the side of keeping whilst IARing is not the most pernicious thing one might do). Thanks! Cheers, Joe 19:39, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi!

Thanks for the offer. It sounds cool. My field of interests are a little economics, anime,RPG so on.So a little bit here and there. I'm having exams at the moment so I won't be active much. Bazsa 16:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Adoption (Enam Esru)

Sounds fine. I'm mostly interested in minor edits (grammar and whatnot) and reverting vandalism. Enam Esru 19:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Question: Should I just direct my questions into this section? Enam Esru 00:23, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
First question: When reverting vandalism, using the "undo" button seems quicker, but most people use the "revert" function (that is, go the the last non-vandalized revision, click edit button...). Is one preferable to the other, or is it a matter of personal choice? Thanks. Enam Esru 12:49, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Re. Admin Coaching

Hello G1ggy and thank you for your request. I'm actually coaching a couple of users at the moment, but will gladly accept you. :-) However, I'm currently busy in real life, and will not be able to give you adequate attention in the next few days. When I get back in full swing, I'll contact you. Best regards, Húsönd 15:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I can tell you why .

The reason is that you give the impression that wikipedia itself is more important than the articles. You will argue this is not the case, and maybe you are right. However, even the slightest hint that this might be the case is more than enough for a strong oppose. Wikipedia had potential to acheive great things, I do not think its possible anymore because of the way things are run, and the administrators are the ones who haveto take the larger blame. We need people with integrity, knowledge and a almost pathological need for neutrality. None of these qualities are common in administrators today, and if I can do anything to change that, then I will. Voice of Britain 22:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Ib_diagram.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. BigDT 04:38, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Inform GA

I'm a little concerned that you passed the Inform article on its good article nomination. It's using several copyrighted images with no fair-use rationale. This disqualifies it for GA status unless fixed. --Masamage 06:45, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Your hostility is surprising and undeserved. I nominated the article to placate a very abusive IP user who was throwing a fit about not being allowed to nominate it himself; I have no other involvement with it whatsoever. Furthermore, I agree that the images are being fairly, but Wikipedia policy requires that a detailed Fair use rationale be included on the image summary page. If you are not familiar with policy you should not be reviewing articles, and you should certainly not be so brusque with people who are trying to help you out. --Masamage 06:57, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
People usually take a very long time getting around to deleting stuff for a lack of fair-use rationale, because there's no easy way to surf through categories of images and see what does or doesn't have them (unlike copyright-tags, which automatically categorize the images so they can be easily reviewed). Anyway, now you know. The lack of rationale is in the quick-fail criteria, so the Inform article shouldn't be a GA just yet. It could also be put on hold with the stipulation that those images be fixed, if you think someone's likely to get to it within a week. --Masamage 07:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
No, it doesn't need a tag (they get deleted without that anyway)--it needs a written-out rationale. Like this image has, with the bullet-points and stuff. --Masamage 20:00, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, doesn't count. Look, I don't make the rules. I get my own images deleted for leaving this stuff out, so just trust me, okay? --Masamage 17:03, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Looks like someone's taken care of the image problems, so no further action will be necessary. Thanks! --Masamage 00:26, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think it stays. That was the only big concern I had; I haven't even read the article (although I have used the language). And I don't know whether or not that's the same IP user, although apparently they both post from 82.*. Hard to say. --Masamage 00:35, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Pf userbox.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Pf userbox.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Age of Mythology

The article Age of Mythology you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Age of Mythology for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review. The Sunshine Man 16:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Since I won't be on IRC today...

Nice day? I just woke up to find myself blocked – on closer inspection, because one of my alternate accounts was blocked for a three-revert rule violation. Now as you probably know, 3RR doesn't apply to reverts of obvious vandalism, and my alleged violation consisted entirely of reverts of obvious vandalism. This suggests the blocking administrator didn't even look at the diffs before blocking, which worries me. Not looking good so far – Gurch 03:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

The Edit

I made that edit because of a suggestion, in way, by AndonicO, whre he stated the following on his edit summary whilst adding his name to the list of members: added; isn't it a bit obvious you're the founder if you're first? I don't think that's necessary

Well, thats pretty much it... Happy editing, Tom@sBat 20:08, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

It does too have an infobox!!!

The page that I edited has an infobox. There were no specific templates for that category, so I just used the original one and edited the info-thingies manually. Jelover9 23:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: GAC

The only reason I caught it was because I was certain that Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume was under Pokémon evolution, and then I noticed how the dates were out of order...I just thought it was unfair since Planetarian is one of 4 GA's I'm going for right now, and the GA process is so damn slow lately. I remember the good ol' days when you'd put an article up for GA and in a few days it would be reviewed. God I miss those days. My oldest GAC right now is back from April 22! In another 10 days, it'll be a full month!-- 09:05, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Rise of Rome

First off, your diff shows that I restructured the article, moving already existing material around. The diff adding the sentence in contention is this one, from March 21, 2007, by another editor. Secondly, referring to a forum thread with two people (one of them you?) agreeing that the information is wrong, does not give you the right to assume the information is added as misinformation on purpose. I hope you will approach User:Rasteve in a more mild maner about this, and perhaps even ask him what he meant with the sentence. Perhaps he has an explanation of the sentence which could be worked into the article.. who knows? Poulsen 06:51, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the GA review for Itanium

Hi! The article has been awaiting review for about three weeks. Thanks for the review, and especially for the complete checklist of review items.

I just checked the images. All of the images except one were already in use in the three articles that I merged into this article, and have therefore been in use at Wikipedia for several years. The one new image is one that I created myself. Based on your comment, I checked the images. Three images are copyrighted but used based on "fair use": the others, including my chart, use acceptable wikicommons licenses.

I assume from this that you object to the "fair use" images. I would greatly appraciate it if you could explain the problem. Each of the three images formerly had a single occurance on the engish wikipedia (in different articles) and they now each have a single instance in the english Wikipedia (in the new consolidated article.) I think the fair use rationale is unchanged. The three "fair use" images consist of two Intel logos and one Intel picture of a processor. The use of Intel Logos and processor pictures has become a de facto standard for Intel processors. (see e.g. Xeon) so I did not even consider the idea that this might be a problem. In fact, I dropped the old original Itanium logo during the merge, but another editor added it.

Please let me know how I can fix the problem. Thanks. -Arch dude 02:21, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. You are of course correct, and the fact that the "fair use rationale" has been missing on these images for years is no excuse. I will resarch this and add a valid rationale or remove the images. Thanks again. -Arch dude 02:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I added the "logo" rationale to the two logos, and I identified the processor picture as a probable copyright violation, tagged it as such, and removed it from the article. Shall I re-nominate, or would you prefer to simply re-review? -Arch dude 20:57, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I re-nominated it. If you have the time, I would deeply appreciate a VERY SHORT summmary of your background. If you are not a computer professional, is this comprehensible? If you are a computer professional, do we have enough info here? Is the chart useful? is teh chart comprehensible? My goal is to try for FA. Thanks. -Arch dude 23:37, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm still up for coaching. :-) However, before you decide to have me as your admin coach, I guess I should warn you that I'm a rather strict coach. Check the talk page of my other student, and his admin coach subpage. If you think you can put up with me, then I'll gladly be your coach. :-) Regards, Húsönd 02:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm probably going to log off within the next half an hour as well, so there won't be much coaching tonight. :-) Just create a coach subpage and tomorrow or Sunday I'll pop by with requests. Users have different ways of coaching, so I believe there is not an adequate reading for the process, as there are no standard procedures. You may check WP:ADMINCOACH though. By the way, I recommend leaving new comments at the bottom of my talk page when too many topics have past. I don't always notice new comments in the middle of the page. Best regards from your new coach, Húsönd 02:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Because I take an obsessive interest in the debate, I happened to notice that you voted against the use of spoilers on historical works, saying that people should not shy away from learning history. Hi Giggy, I disagree with you on that link, it does not show the right engine. Here is an extract from the page;

"The venerable Quake III engine has been retired in favor of an in-house custom job, featuring pixel shaders, bump maps and much-improved shadows and lighting. In an interesting twist, it seems that the new game engine is either capable of playing original Call of Duty maps, or – more likely - it wasn’t difficult to import them."

Please note the very first line. I think that it has been proven that the Quake engine has not exactly been retired.

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Lukovit treasure

Hello! In fact this is far from my first article in Wikipedia: ) And I just can't see where is the advertisement... Would you point the exact mistakes you see and I will correct them. Regards, --Gligan 12:06, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

In a comment to User:132.241.246.111, you wrote

One or more of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Al-Tariq, has been considered unhelpful or unconstructive and has been reverted or removed.

But I note that the Al-Tariq article is in fact as he left it.

BTW, 132.241.246.111 is a sock-puppet of Grazon. Grazon is indefinitely blocked, and 132.241.246.111 is once again long-term blocked. —SlamDiego 13:42, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey G1ggy, I noticed your edit per 9000. I wanted to discuss it with you before it gets reverted. In this section, the phenomenon itself should be referenced by a third party. For example, instead of a link to the video - a news article or publication about the video's gaining notability will work for inclusion in the article. If you take a look at the corresponding references, you will see good examples of citations. Cheers. the_undertow talk 22:05, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Cool. I'll poke around and see what I can dig up. Good seeing you around RfA's and AfD's. You always get me thinking. I know I sometimes ask questions, but it's only for my own learning. Have a good weekend. the_undertow talk 02:57, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Nicole Wallace

Excuse me if this isn't the place to respond to you. But why in the world would you revert my edit regarding Charles Sobhraj, not Charles Manson, being the model for Bernard in "Slither"? Please click on the link for Charles Sobhraj, read about his case, and you'll see that I'm correct. And please watch the episode "Grow" again, listen to the message Nicole leaves on Bobby's phone, and you'll realize she does not "curse him out." Rather than spending your efforts "reverting" edits, please take a moment to find out whether the edits were legitimate. Thanks.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.152.101.44 (talkcontribs)

You seem to already have done a great job by adding references to the campaign, so I think that section seems to be done... Now, I read the reasons and the statements after that, and the reviewer said that the article had mainly failed because of references for the plot... But now that the plot is covered, should the rest be referenced too? If it were to be like that, I could possibly help a bit, but otherwise, the plot seems referenced enough. License tagging for Image:Powderfinger-LoveYourWay-20seconds.ogg

Thanks for uploading Image:Powderfinger-LoveYourWay-20seconds.ogg.

04:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Note to anyone reading this page: I added a tag, I was just too lazy to do it in the first place, so I rushed through without adding one. It has been done now. G1ggy! 04:58, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Half-Life 2: Episode One GA

I'm a little confused. The fair use rationale for each image is identical to that of Half-Life 2, a featured article. What is the issue precisely? I also wish to point out that the fair use rationales on the screenshots are identically detailed to those in current GA articles. Qjuad 04:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

No problem, and thanks for getting back to me so quickly. My apologies if the above comment came across as intemperate. Qjuad 04:58, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

That seems to have been added after the first GA review, as there was a reference there once before. I once again added the reference. Check it over, etc., and alert me if any more steps need to be taken. Regards, NSR77 (Talk|Contribs) 14:56, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm surprised you nominated the Red Hot Chili Peppers page for GAN. I've nominated it twice (earlier this year), both times having it failed. I do hope this time will be different however. And, I once again nominated Dani California. Somewhat irritating that each time it was failed for an extremely minor thing. Either way, thank you and let's hope for luck on the RHCP article. Regards, NSR77 (Talk|Contribs) 16:41, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Just a thought

Yo Gig, why two columns? [3] There's only 24 references, and at the time that made the references overlap and become and unreadable. I also was in a discussion on some TMNT game and one of the involved parties mentioned that two columns can mess up on certain browsers. Just thought you might want to keep that in mind. However I don't know if consensus was reached about it, so I'd guess it's at the user's discretion.--Clyde (talk) 15:36, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

re: barnstar

Thanks! Just went on another one of my typo-correction binges. Seems Wikipedia is quite fond of the spelling "intial." Crystallina 05:21, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Is it Necessary?

Hello, I noticed you regularly capitalise areas of your sentecnes such as when commenting on RfA's, is this really necessary. It could be seen as shouting and telling the users what to do, so please re-consider as it does not seem necessary. All the best. --The Sunshine Man 13:10, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Also, dont forget when you pass an article for the GA status, dont forget to add {{GA|oldid=insert it here}}. See the instructions of the good article page, that should help. Cheers! The Sunshine Man 13:12, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello, sorry I didnt mean to sound uncivil and or dis-respectful to how to type but I meant like here for example, it just seems as if you are shouting at the and I thought I'd inform you incase other users got the wrong end of the stick. And the oldid for Good articles is rather important, I found it hard at first but basically I think you find the ID (via the page history) and you look and find the one when the {{GAN}} tag was added, then add {{GA|oldid=goes here}}. Thanks for your politeness on this.... The Sunshine Man 09:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Spelling again

I actually don't use anything but my browser. For correcting spelling, I just type the misspelling in question into Wikipedia's built-in search and correct what turns up there, checking for context of course. I've looked into AWB and similar tools, but haven't actually used any of them yet. Crystallina 23:25, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Manchester

I removed the Manchester article from GA Nominations because the article is still being worked on and has only just been trimmed down. It is not ready for GA yet. XAndreWx 04:12, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Adoption yes please I would like to be adopted! XAndreWx 00:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Seeing the Bureaucrat Discussion

Yes, it would be on a separate subpage that only the bureaucrats would discuss on, but it would be visible to anyone. -- Cecropia 05:09, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: RfA

Hi Alex. You've asked at an absolutely perfect time, and I'd be honored to accept your invitation for nomination. Thanks for giving me a chance to become a sysop. Do whatever you need to do and if you need any help I'm only too happy. Thanks again for the nomination! Dfrg.msc 08:01, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Alex! Since I offered to co-nom Nick, would you mind notifying me when you have created the rfa page? Thanks, and have a great day, buddy! PeaceNT 10:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

unknown importance Brisbane articles

These articles are assessed /Campbell Newman -- mid /Bretts Wharf - mid /1982 Games -mid /Games opening - low /Briz 31- low. But they still appear in category:unknown importance. Is this because the categories are transcluded? (I dont understand this) Will be looking at more of them, if someone can let me know how to fix the category when they are rated. Question

Well this is probably an annoying question. I want to upload a picture (a screenshot I took of a PC game), to use it in it's article. Which license and tags should I use? Bali Talk 21:51, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
