A question
[edit]@GoldenSamurai: Okay, I've gotta be missing something. I don't use Wiki a ton, so I'm not totally up on all the rules - but I'm not allowed to edit my own talk page? How is that "disruptive editing" worthy of a ban? I've cleaned up my talk page before with no issues - just getting rid of old portal project updates I don't need. Please help me understand? A answer
[edit]@Ganesha811: You just cannot remove any messages sent by users. You clearly removed over 45,000 bytes from your page. At least in future, keep your talk page neat and tidy. I found a few spelling errors and grammar faults. Cheers! I hope that you enjoy being a Wikipedian. I get that you are confused, but in future do not remove any future messages. I just do not like it when user talk pages being removed. It is like removing the history of someone's hard work for nothing. See you around! :) GoldenSamurai (talk) 16:09, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
A response
[edit]@GoldenSamurai: Frankly, this doesn't clear anything up. These were not specific messages to me from users, they were general Portal Project updates sent to all portalproject members by @The Transhumanist:. Somehow I have my doubts he'll be deeply offended if I remove them from the talk page.
Secondly, is this a sitewide rule or just your personal preference? You say "I just do not like it..." - implying the latter. In this case, it's clearly not like removing the history of someone's hard work, because it's portal project updates that go to scores of users each week. These updates on my talk page are not unique to me and my talk page.
Finally, I'm sure there may have been a few typos - but almost nothing on my talk page was written by me! As you point out, other users post on it. The way I keep it "neat and tidy" is by removing old, unnecessary Portal Project updates.
So if you could bring clarity to some of the points I raise above, that would be great. Thanks.Ganesha811 (talk) 16:20, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
@Ganesha811: Still, in future, do not remove 45,000 bytes. Thank you! GoldenSamurai (talk) 16:24, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
@GoldenSamurai: Still confused - are you now saying it's fine to clean up my talk pages as long as I keep each edit under 45,000? Help me out here - what is the actual sitewide policy? I've been searching and can't find anything. I don't mind following the rules - in fact I'd like to - but if the issue here is your personal preferences about talk pages, well, that's a different thing.
