WikiCup 2023 July newsletter
The third round of the 2023 WikiCup has come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 175 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Thebiguglyalien, with 919 points from a featured article on Frances Cleveland as well as five good articles and many reviews,
- Unlimitedlead, with 862 points from a high-scoring featured articles on Henry II of England and numerous reviews,
- Iazyges, with 560 points from a high-scoring featured article on Tiberius III.
Contestants achieved 11 featured articles, 2 featured lists, 47 good articles, 72 featured or good article reviews, over 100 DYKs and 40 ITN appearances. As always, any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 (talk) and Cwmhiraeth (talk). Question about topic ban
Hey, you applied an AP2 topic ban to me months ago so I figured I'd ask you. I've noticed an egregious BLP violation at Spencer Cox (politician), but I'm prohibited from correcting it as the article falls under AP2. The page says that Cox labels himself as a "centrist, moderate, liberal Republican". However, none of the sources back this up, and I can find no record of him saying this on the internet; the only thing he says in any of the sources is that he considers himself a conservative (in the TIME source). This edit was made months ago by a user with no explanation. I have no idea if it's a violation of my topic ban to bring this up, but is there any way you can correct this flagrant BLP violation per WP:BLPREMOVE? Toa Nidhiki05 13:40, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- It has been removed -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 16:24, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! Hope I didn’t overstep here. Toa Nidhiki05 21:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Question on when to report a suspected sock
I saw you banned Kate the mochii for being a sock. Based on some of their behavior at Talk:Metagame, I assumed they weren't actually a new editor because of the way they were quoting policies. But when reviewing signs of sockpuppetry, I thought this could also be considered WP:PRECOCIOUS. The guidance on reporting a sock says you need to have specific examples of behavior. With this editor, was their behavior at Metagame enough to report or to reach out to a checkuser? I just want to have a better sense going forwards in case I run into similar behavior again. Thanks! Charles III requested move discussion
There is a new requested move discussion in progress for the Charles III article. Since you participated in the previous discussion, I thought you might like to know about this one. Cheers. Rreagan007 (talk) 06:47, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
