Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Dublin City University, and I noticed that your username, "Web-dcu", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 21:18, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Learn Wikipedia ways

[edit]

With DCU having a whole “Digital Comms team” –

Digital Communications •Jane Last - Head of Digital Communications - Jane was previously Head of News at Independent News & Media (now Mediahuis). •Claire Bodie Flynn - Social Media and Online Engagement Editor •Kyran O'Brien - Photographer and Videographer - Kyran is an award winning photographer who was previously a staff photographer at The Irish Independent. •Stuart Heenan - Web Developer/ Specialist. Stuart joined DCU from Sunway Holidays.

– maybe there is some education can be done so that mis-steps such as on the DCU article (in rankings) and Daire Keogh (trying to narrow the biog.) can be avoided? At least why not study some Wikipedia basics? It is the leading source after Google itself (ahead of LinkedIn) and the main engine of Google profiles too. Not such difficult reads. 188.141.47.121 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 11:50, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Heenans-web, and welcome to Wikipedia! While the comment above might have been better put, it has some point, and should you wish some guidance on how best to approach editing on Wikipedia, many of us would be glad to give some pointers, walk you through key policies, etc. We very much need additional hands for the work of the encyclopedia, and aside from DCU-related matters, there may be other topics where you could consider adding text or pictorial content. To ask, you can signal any user, as I have done with yourself, with double curly brackets, u, a vertical bar, the user-name and more curly brackets. SeoR (talk) 13:11, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
