Welcome![edit]

I'm trying to create a page about the Mosaïq Multicultural Festival in Moncton, New Brunswick. It is one of the main festivals of the city, along with a few others. I've looked at other articles regarding festivals and events, and I don't understand why mine keeps getting deleted. I understand the first delete, because I did take the text from their website, but the other 2 were objective, and explained a bit of the history. What am I missing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by HostManagement (talkcontribs) 9:45, 17 July 2013

Good question! There seem to be two things you have missed, HM. There is helpful info provided in the messages below, and what you missed there is what the article lacked: Notability! You must show why the festival is notable and significant to be remembered in any encyclopedia, and you must do so in the first few sentences of the article, called the "lede" or "lead". And you may have also missed the button in the speedy-deletion box they placed at the TOP of the article that was marked "Contest this speedy deletion"? Did you click on that button? If so, what happened? If not, why not? I would suggest that you go back and look again at those existing articles about such events and try to find how their notability was shown. Then try again if you truly feel that this event is "worthy of note". Keep trying because Wikipedia is a learning experience that is well worth the effort! I can't find this button!!
Don't be so surprised, my friend! I did say that the button was in the "speedy-deletion box", so now that the article has been deleted, the button is no longer available. One must click that button before the article is deleted. If it happens again (hopefully it won't happen), then you'll know how to contest the speedy deletion. Be sure to have all your t's dotted and your i's crossed (or something like that). Joy to you and yours! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 17:24, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
PS. Here is a link to the Speedy-deletion template that was used to delete the article:
  • {{Db-a7}} – please take note of the button at the center of the box. (PS left by Paine Ellsworth)
Also, please remember that lack of notability alone is no reason to speedily delete an article. There must be other reasons. Notability is important and must eventually be shown; however, if that is the only reason given for a speedy deletion, then you do have grounds to contest it.

Per wp:CSD#A7: It is irrelevant whether the claim of notability within the article is not sufficient for the notability guidelines. If the claim is credible [(a lower standard than notability)], the A7 tag cannot be applied. Often what seems non-notable to a new page patroller is shown to be notable in a deletion discussion.

I believe this question may require administrator help, as non-administrators can't view deleted content and elaborate on what was wrong. If reading the deletion message and all links therein is of no help, you may have to replace {{Helpme}} with {{Admin help}}. Gryllida 11:18, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been deleted, so naturally that button does not exist anymore. Regarding the article, the advice that Paine Ellsworth offered above is correct, and worth heeding. --(ʞɿɐʇ) ɐuɐʞsǝp 12:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mosaïq Multicultural Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.mosaiqmoncton.ca/about/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.
