If I cannot use this name can I rename it “Hout Ly” which is my name. I am the president of the Cambodia Chess Federation. I don’t know much about Wikipedia. Can you please help?

Hello, I’m the President of the Cambodia Chess Federation. The Cambodia Sports Ministry wants me to write 2 articles. One is for the CCF and one for our champion Ly Kimlong. Hout Ly (talk) 09:21, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Hout, as you have a conflict of interest on these topics, you MUST disclose this on your talk page here. I will unblock you, however you MUST submit the articles you are looking to create through the articles for creation process per our guidelines here. RickinBaltimore (talk) 11:59, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

So apparently I can’t create any pages for famous Cambodian! Is this considered to be racist? Hout Ly (talk) 07:46, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Feel free to contact the ministry of education, youth and sport of cambodia. They want me to write articles about all famous cambodia national champion. I’m starting with this chess prodigy then I will move on to the old champions Hout Ly (talk) 10:17, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
But if Wikipedia is unhappy with my articles I can’t do anything but to accept it. There are many cambodian athletes that the world need to know Hout Ly (talk) 10:18, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Can someone tell me how we can get our athletes list on Wikipedia? Hout Ly (talk) 10:24, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
If you search for cambodian athletes you will see very little people. Why? Because most of them don’t have a page. Many Footballers, Volleyball players, Taekwondo Practicers and other sport athletes dont have a page even though they’re our national icon and compete at international stages. Hout Ly (talk) 10:26, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Ly Kimlong. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. ~ Amkgp 💬 09:27, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay I’m so sorry that I delete the notice. Hout Ly (talk) 10:18, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Hout Ly. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Ly Kimlong, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~ Amkgp 💬 09:37, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
First of all, I’m just trying to write articles about cambodian sportspersons. I’m starting with this chess prodigy then I will move on to other people. I’m not trying to write an article for my colleagues or friends. The Cambodia Chess Federation as well as the Ministry of education, youth and sports are trying to list our national champions on Wikipedia and try our best to get ready for sea games 2023 which is host by Cambodia. Writing articles for our strong national sportsperson will make other countries know that Cambodia has good talents! Hout Ly (talk) 10:22, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. The thread is Ly Kimlong. Thank you. ~ Amkgp 💬 10:04, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Articles created with a Conflict of Interest
[edit]Hello again, I wanted to take a few moments to address your recent edits to Wikipedia. As I stated when you were unblocked, there are a few things you need to do with your account to ensure that you edit within the guidelines of our rules here. We take the matter of having a conflict of interest very seriously, and as such, you MUST post this on your talk page. There are directions here on how to do this on your talk page, which you need to do given your role with the Cambodian Chess Federation and the requests that were made of you to create these. Also, since you do have this conflict of interest, by our rules, any articles you create have got to go through our articles for creation process. Failure to do this could result in your account being blocked from editing. RickinBaltimore (talk) 14:06, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Okay I’m new to Wikipedia. Just recently arrived here after the government issued me to create pages for our athletes. Can you mr @RickinBaltimore help me and show me how I can get my athletes pages on Wikipedia? Hout Ly (talk) 05:39, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Hout Ly:, you first need to put the paid editing declaration on your user page, as RickInBaltimore described above. I can do that for you if you like: just say it is OK for me to do it. Also, for the page on Ly Kimlong, are there any newspapers in Khmer that have stories about Ly Kimlong?ThatMontrealIP (talk) 07:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
@ThatMontrealIP Ok you can do it for me. For newspapers I’ll contact my secretary and he’ll get back to you. But you can contact with Ly Kimlong himself I’ll tell him to reply back to this thread. Hout Ly (talk) 10:17, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
@ThatMontrealIP do you have social media account so we can contact you? Hout Ly (talk) 10:51, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hout Ly, please understand if this is a shared account, this account will be blocked for editing as shared accounts are not permitted at all on Wikipedia. RickinBaltimore (talk) 14:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- P@Hout Ly: for your user declaration, we need to know if you are getting paid by the federation to edit Wikipedia. For the Ly Kimlong article, if you have links to newspaper articles in any language, you can post them below. Without adequate reporting in public newspapers, magazines, books, TV or radio, the article will be deleted.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 17:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

These are a few links I found in about 15 minutes. Ly Kimlong himself will join this thread later today Hout Ly (talk) 02:31, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi I’m Ly Kimlong. I didn’t know about this until mr. hout told me yesterday. I personally don’t know much about wikipedia. I believe it’s Wikipedia rights to delete this page. Thank you for writing about me in the first page. I have submitted my own version of the page but got rejected too because lack of references. The problem is that we in cambodia dont use fide rating we have national ratings. All the tournaments here are national rated not fide rated and for articles there are a few on facebook posted by independent accounts not so much attention on chess in cambodia. This is why I think mr hout ly created this page. To get foreign attention and ready for sea games which will be my first sea games representing cambodia sea games 2021 in vietnam. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ly Kimlong (talk • contribs) 02:48, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Please Dont ban mr hout. I believe he is just doing the work the government told him to do. I take all responsibility for all of this action. Thank you wiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ly Kimlong (talk • contribs) 02:52, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Moving forward
[edit]Hout Ly and Ly Kimlong, you're fine. I've added the paid editing notice to your user page, as you requested. You should use the Articles for Creation process to submit your articles. They will be reviewed by another editor and then moved into the "mainspace". Currently they are drafts. Your draft is at Draft:Ly Kimlong (Chess Player), the article currently at Ly Kimlong will likely be deleted, so you might want to update your draft with its contents.
Please read Wikipedia's policies before continuing. You can read a quick introduction at Help:Introduction. I'd also like to point out that articles on Wikipedia must be reliably sourced. Your article on Ly Kimlong can only be accepted if it can be sourced reliably. Notability must already exist, Wikipedia can't be used as promotion to help gain notability. For example, if a local newspaper has published something about Ly Kimlong that would be helpful. You should edit the draft article yourself and bring it up to standard, then submit it for review again when you're happy. You can use articles on other chess players for inspiration, see Category:Chess grandmasters. Best of luck! :) ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 12:07, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Ly Kimlong
[edit]Hi. Please re-read the above advice. You should submit paid article for review with WP:AFC rather than creating them directly in mainspace.
I've moved your article to Draft:Ly Kimlong (1) where you can work on it further and then submit it for review. The currently cited sources are seemingly all the same press release. We need independent coverage. I was unable to find any independent mentions of the subject in English or Cambodian.
