Maps

[edit]

Hi Indon, I e-mailed you some maps as promised. :) --Merbabu 10:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I received them. Nice for illustrating the article. We have already base map for Indonesia, so it would not so difficult to do it. I'll start tomorrow. — Indon (reply) — 13:32, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Indon. I saw your warning to this user. have you also been following developments on Mohammad Hatta, Sukarno, Bung Tomo and Mohammad Toha? Regards Davidelit 11:36, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to butt in - we are aware of it. Very disruptive. There may be more to it, let's wait and see what developes. Better discussed off wiki. :) Merbabu 11:41, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a newbie who directly comes to such a controversial issue. Actually, collaborationists are not such POV but tagging Moh. Toha as mass murderers? Hah, I bet he doesn't dare to do the same thing for George Bush or Tony Blair. :-) I second with Merbabu. Wait, see, talk, warn and/or report. — Indon (reply) — 13:29, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem :-) Perhaps you can check the English once the article is finished. I am now reading an article about the different cultures on Java. BTW do you know Matahari Pagi? Is (s)he an Indonesian or what? Meursault2004 07:47, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I will promote Wikiproject Indonesia here on en: whenever I get the chance to speak for or about Wikipedia :-) However, unfortunately or fortunately, it depends on your point of view ... PR for Indonesia

[edit]

Hello. I've just put some citations and it's all done. Do you think it's a good time for another pee review? I still can't find a picture of MPR building, a decent one. They haven't replied my email! Dasar Indo. Thanks - Imoeng 10:33, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I said to Merbabu, but he asked us to postpone it until May 11 because he is pretty busy right now. Or should we just give it a shot? The last FAC was a year ago, so maybe we can try it again now. What do you think? Imoeng 23:46, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from WikiProject Indonesia

[edit]

Hi Indon! How are you?

WikiProject Indonesia invites you to join the project, and we are sure that you can help us greatly there. WikiProject Indonesia is a project dedicated to improve all articles related to Indonesia and currently we have got 37 members.

Here are some things you can help us with:

  • Assessment: It's where you can tag Indonesia-related articles out there with our project banner and help us gather all articles.
  • Cartography: Or maybe you can draw maps? It is a very important sector of our project, since Indonesia is a big country with thousands of islands, maps could be very useful.
  • Collaboration: Every fortnight, we choose a short article that needs to be looked at and we improve that particular article together. The main goal is, of course, to reach featured article status.
  • Or you can just help us expand articles related to Indonesia.
Have fun and see you there!. -- Imoeng 13:37, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, look whos spamming?? I've put this into 70s Indo users, hopefully they'll turn up, hopefully.

Umm

[edit]

I was just trying to get the mess a bit tidied up and you move it! drat! The premise of the previous edits was that chinese language was lost to social stigma. complete rubbish - it was the public banning of script and chinese names following the overthrow of sukarno for the duration of the new order - once again lack of historical knowledge - I can see why I revert to category tagging at times! SatuSuro 12:50, 26 April 2007 (UTC). Better restrain myself - I have first hand experience of adult persons of that racial group who were still using the language privately in the mid 1980's - the whole section is incorrect - as I have said on imoengs page - etc - I would have trashed the whole section myself - it goes back a lot longer with a more complex history than was given - so whatever you do - I dont mind - it needs quite a re-write to even get anywhere near the reality SatuSuro 12:58, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey sorry about the late reply, I didn't see it. Well yeah, I'll start tomorrow cause it's 00:30 in Melbourne. We'll probably do it manually. There's another thing I need to talk about. Have you noticed that our member list are scattered? There's one in the project page, which is clearly not complete, and another one in a category page, which is very hard to be accessed and used. Let's think of a better way to organise this. If we can organise this properly, then it'll be easier to inform the guys. Cheers - Imoeng 14:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Indon

I'll do some copyediting on this article. Please check that my changes don't change the factual accuracy. But, it looks pretty good anyway, so hopefully their won't be much. --Merbabu 13:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

adjectives...
I notice sometimes you use Toraja and othertimes Torajan. FOr example, Toraja consciousness of themselves compared to Torajan social classes. These are both adjectives and we should decide on just one usage. I am happy with Torja - i think we once discussed that an academic confirmed this for us. (by the way, when talking about people ie, a Torajan as in Orang Toraja, is OK and is not an adjective). --Merbabu 14:04, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Missionaries
The article says that the largest religious group is Protestant Christians. What denomination were the Dutch missionaries? I presume protestant. Were they Calvanist? Also, there is a sizeable Catholic minority. How did that come about? --Merbabu 14:18, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

he he - task master indeed! Actually, you did mention the protestant background. Sorry. OK, I'm done for tonight. About halfway there. I'm so tired, I'll probably start making mistakes if I keep going (if i haven't made mistakes already). It's a great article. Great work (as usual). Merbabu 14:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Merbabu & SatuSuro, I had to go. I always trust Merbabu's golden fingers. :-) — Indon (reply) — 16:35, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have fixed adjectives. I hope it's okay now. If they are still wrong, then you can blame me. About missionaries, they are written as it is from the literature. It's only described as Protestianism. I don't know much about Calvinist, but the Catholic figure is the actual condition now. Statistics were taken from the official Tana Toraja govt site. — Indon (reply) — 17:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wilipedia, Idon, I entered the website [1] on the links section of 'menstruation', 'menstrual cycle' and 'menarche' because it has photos that explore the meaning and symbology of menstruation. Humans live through meaning, see Victor Frankl, ISBN 0-671-24422-1 Pbk. The aim here is to give women, and men, positive and fun images of this natural function. These images are not facts which is why a link is more appropriate than an entry in the body. The web site [2] has many artists on it so it did not seem out of place to me. I did not mean to cause offence. CoralieK 11:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious, why did you feel that the bit about Lohman's sexuality was vandalism? Dismas|(talk) 12:45, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Though I wouldn't take their edit as "vandalism" per se. They're a new user and added something that was unsourced. That doesn't necessarily equate to vandalism to me. Dismas|(talk) 12:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its hard to tell, the dates range from early 1900 to about 1940, so maybe the copyright has expired on some. I found them all here: [8]. My searches were toraja negatief or toraja Repronegatief or toraja Portret. The website has a thumbnail and a description for each picture. The links I provided above I manually altered slightly to increase the resolution of the images and to remove the watermark which is there by default. (Caniago 03:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

You have removed a link to my website, a non commercial forum dedicated to the Ayamonte & Costa Esuri areas of Spain. Yet you leave another link that is clearly a commercial website offering rental accomodation in Spain.

Can you please explain and review your decision? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmboogie (talkcontribs) 12:08, 5 May 2007

I am not too sure over your reasoning, and you have directed me to instructions relating to what external links are acceptable "Such pages could contain further research that is accurate and on-topic; information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks); or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to their reliability (such as reviews and interviews)."

My forum is totally dedicated to the Costa Esuri area, I understand you may feel this is "Links mainly intended to promote a website.", I can assure you this is not true and is without any commercial interest what-so-ever.

The site provides information about the area, but contains especially "meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as reviews and interviews."

Once again can I ask you to review your descision and consider including the link?

Portal and collab

[edit]

Well, the portal should be updated. I did two bios about an hour or two ago - check my contribs. As for the collab - yeah, I can see there is a clear winner. I will put that as the new collab. Unfortunately, i had hoped that we could chose a stub to work on. Maybe next time. Merbabu 13:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will change the collab now - maybe I will do the mass spaming tomorrow. Last time i softly suggested we chose a stub, but this time I will say that people MUST chose from the list of stubs, and any non-stub nomination will be ignored? gimana menurutmu? Central Java was a great success, but usually if we do an established longish article, collabs don't produce much, but if we find something short, there might be a better choice. If you nominate a stub, maybe chose one that is rated on the importance scale. Can you believe, I am involved in two FA's? U2 and Indonesia. I'm worrried, one guy says he will "re-write" U2 tomorrow - during the FA. Well, wait and see. Merbabu 13:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Am I allowed to comment on Toraja? I guess my involvement has been minimal so it is OK. Anyway, do you have any ideas for Fauna of Indonesia? Is the structure OK? What should it cover? Merbabu 13:59, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ah yes, the dreaded list. I agree - no listing. That's why i hate Cuisine of Indonesia - one day I will re-write that. Hey so all my external links were removed. Yet they were related to the subject matter and I noticed other news stories from other sites posted. I feel that the links I added were highly relevant to the subject matter, not just links that pointed to the home page or something vague like that. Please explain why you think that my links are do not meet the guidelines when they are clearly related to the subject matter that users will find useful. Thanks. Surajans 22:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks for your response. I will add to the article and then list the external link as a reference. I am new to the editing aspect of Wiki, but I am a frequent user of the site. The last thing I would do is to add garbage to any page. However please alert me if I am doing something incorrectly. And I do understand that adding links will not increase my search rankings. That is not my intent. I only want to add highly relevant information to pages that exist. Thank you so much. I appreciate your feedback. Surajans

It's not too bad. I'm making a few tweaks, but nothing major. What's with the picture and caption in the Etymology section though? Basically it is: "Here is a boat. The name Indonesia comes from...". Judicial section

Hi Indon, there might be something wrong with reference for this paragraph. Currently footnote [45]. You wrote this bit, right? By the way, do we need to add something about the traditional lack of clarity/transparency in the legal system? just one sentence? cheers Merbabu 16:30, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wohooo it's a mess in the citations. I have fixed them. Frankly, I don't like the current Notes style with cramped citations in one number. It's unreadable to a reader. About clarity/transp., it's not fit in Indonesia article, because it is relative in time. It should be in the Judicial system of Indonesia article. — Indon (reply) — 21:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Growth rate cn

There's no citation for the growth rate claim in the demographics section. It's a good point. but no cite. any ideas? Despite a considerably successful family planning program run since the 1960s, the population is expected to grow to around 315 million in 2035 based on the current estimated annual growth rate of 1.25%. Merbabu 16:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nichalp's FAC review

[edit]

Today i was going to copy-edit for prose but when i opened WP, Nichalp had a long list of changes - but they are all good (except 1 or 2). Do you have an opinion on his request for svg-only maps? Although he is suggesting it is not an 'FA-killer'. Also, have you had experience with the correct use of units per the MoS? (I've made some comments on his talk page you might want to look over). Merbabu 05:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a good template {{convert}} that makes easy conversion between metric systems, but I don't know which one. I think that all measurements have two metric units. SVG is not important for FA, just ignore the comment. — Indon (reply) — 12:28, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Constitution amendment dates

[edit]

I really think this is a minor detail for this article. I've put them back into the footnotes or they could be removed altogether. [10] We only have space for important points and not details and the important point here is 4 changes since 1998. Remember, the article is already long - but not excessively long. What do you think? Merbabu 06:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's only a few alphabets extra, but if you think those are not necessary, then it's better to remove them completely, not to make it as a footnotes. The Notes section, in my point of view, is really confusing for readers. — Indon (reply) — 12:25, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Indon. I am willing to copyedit your article, but first I wonder if you could take a look at the references. There are no page numbers for the book sources (Adams, Nooy-Palm). If I put in the copyediting effort, I'd like to see the article pass, and references are often another concern raised in FACs. I have asked user:SandyGeorgia to take a look, as she may have comments in this area. –Outriggr § 02:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Indon. The book sources need page numbers, but the websources don't. On the sources that have URLs, would you mind if we moved them out of References, and just used named refs for them in Notes? I like to leave only book references in refs, since those are the only one that need page nos. Let me know; I can make that change if you agree. I'll leave some other questions on the article talk page. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:40, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indon, I hope you don't mind that I went ahead and made some changes, and left some questions on the article talk page. I went ahead and included in footnotes all sources which don't need separate page numbers (journal articles and websources); this method makes it more clear which sources (books) need page numbers, and gives you the option to shorten the References section to only books, if you want, but you don't have to. If you don't like it, it can all be reverted, but doing it the way you had it, the reader gets the idea that a lot of page numbers are missing, when there actually aren't many page nos needed. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't forgotten about Toraja! –Outriggr § 10:00, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you interested in a copy of this article, which I could locate: http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0021-8715(198701%2F03)100%3A395%3C111%3AFOHRAC%3E2.0.CO%3B2-N

It's just a book review, but I ran across it. –Outriggr § 05:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Indon. I've mostly copyedited the Toraja article. I did leave some comments inline related to text that I thought I couldn't fix, as I wasn't sure of the intended meaning. I may also have taken some liberties in the text that I did change. I am likely going to (try to!) limit my future involvement here (Wikipedia), but if you would like to address these areas, you can still contact me so that we can finish the job! –Outriggr § 04:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi Indon,

I recently added a link to the Surrey information page, and apparently it doesn't conform to user guidelines. I feel that this link would benefit users as it contains photographs of various houses in Surrey after they have been newly decorated. It will be regularly updated and soon contain an archive. I feel this will be interesting to both the people of Surrey, and to people possibly looking to move to Surrey.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this..

Thanks alot.

Being targeted as a spammer

[edit]

Hi Indon,

I have read all the guidelines that you referred, regarding external links and spam. It is clear now that because i recommended more than one external link, and that they were going to the same website, a website that i myself write for, that i have now been labelled a spammer.

My intentions have been honourable, i should have read the guidelines before i introduced my additions, and i could have possibly avoided this label that now hangs over me.

I thought this website was for information and study, which is why i felt my additions in they're categories could help build on the depth of information contained within those pages. A neutral observer would hopefully see this as the case. But i guess a black cloud hangs over the Internet nowadays because of spammers, and there can be no room for innocence, and everyone should be eyed with suspicion.

It seems a shame that we have come to this.

Thanks very much

Steve--Decorator today 15:37, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: For what its worth: I am not a spammer.

[edit]

Sorry Indon, I'm newbie to wikipedia. I try to make an article about Indonesia Photography, but you marked my first article as speedy deletion. Is it impossible for me to make article like that? Please help me, I need your suggestions. Or would you help me another one related to Indonesia Photography? Please follow link on reference page and browse everything there. FYI Indonesia Photography website will be a massive online stock photo library of Indonesia.

List of regencies & cities

[edit]

Why did you redirect List of regencies and cities of Indonesia? According to the WP:LIST article, the name of list article should have "List" word. Also that I'm currently working on it to make the master list for regencies and cities. — Indon (reply) — 18:12, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's better that we discuss about this issue in the project talk page here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Indonesia#Regencies & cities

Tamaneden, I don't want to discourage your effort of making the list of regencies and cities of Indonesia. There are currently two articles, as you know. Both contain the same information. We should choose one, not making two competitive articles, which further confuses readers. I'm very much glad to improve article that you created and making the other redirects to it. However, there is certain Wikipedia rules and guidelines that we should follow. In this subject, WP:LIST is the guideline and according to it, the name of List article should have List of X title. I wouldn't mind if the content of List of regencies and cities of Indonesia looks like the one you are now working on it. Hope you understand. — Indon (reply) — 09:14, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are Not two competing articles. We can develop an overview article for general and a list of those cities and regencies. Tamaneden

Cebu events is a monthly publication that will help the community in Cebu City. Actually, it will be free for everybody without any cost to them. Cebuanos will benefit from this. It can also be classified as a monthly calendar of events. Free information for cebuanos. Please reconsider Cebu Events to be added in the external links for the Cebu article. thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cebuevents (talkcontribs)

Indonesian GDP

[edit]

Hey hows it going? Check on Indonesia and compare the GDP under "Economy" and the infobox. Notice the 600 billions difference. Is it wrong or it's just I'm stupid? Also, this page states that the infobox is totally wrong and the text is right. Cheers. Imoeng 08:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well yeah, I asked that because I saw that on FAC, hehe. I just wanted to ask for your opinion because 600 billion difference is not small. Have you seen the link I gave you? It's the same GDP right? I don't know much about eco unfortunately. Imoeng 09:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Krakatoa

[edit]

He did leave a comment on the krakatoa talk page about the issue. Just in case you didnt see it - its not at the bottom of the talk page (which needs an archiving) but in the upper section - youd need to find it via a look at history - a valid point - which i suggested he read a bit more first SatuSuro 12:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC backlog elimination drive

[edit]

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:19, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub sorting

[edit]

He he - Indonesia is FA. By the way, I'm stub sorting at the moment. I'm working off the list of Indonesian stubs. It did number over 1000 but now there is less than 100. What we are trying to do is sort them into province-based cats. See my contribs for examples. Can you fix any? For example, Hulubelu and Mount Besar. What provinces are they in? Also, note that some articles like Java Sea won't fit into a single province category and can therefore remain simply as an 'Indonesia' stub. thanks Merbabu 10:04, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen your contribs. Actually I don't understand cat and what the purpose of stub-sort. Why do they need to split cat into south sumatera, for example? The main reason I heard from the discussion of you, SS and the other editor is to easily find an article? It's a weak reason and I don't use cat to find an article. I use search instead. — Indon (reply) — 21:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ITB

[edit]

No, I am not 'back from a break', I AM on a break, that's why I am here...;) as to the edit: check out that of TU Delft. I simply used similar pattern. The first sentence should start with some facts that define ITB e.g., 'ITB is an XXX' and not dwell into chronological history, etc --Wongjerang 20:55, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not write the portion where you put your 'fact' tags. It was there when I went in. May be a while ago and we have settled on that i don't know. I guess I am off the hook on that one--Wongjerang 20:42, 2 June 2007 (reply)

My bad on starting on top of your talk page, not the middle thou but still..;)--Wongjerang 22:22, 2 June 2007 (UTC)(reply)[reply]

OK, I am pasting the WP:Peacock#Don.27t_hide_the_important_facts guideline below for you to consider:
Don't hide the important facts The opposite fallacy is to disparage the importance of a topic. Thus: "The Pacific Ocean is one of the largest oceans," "World War II was among the most important wars of the century." Peacock terms can be avoided when dealing with the third longest river in Rhode Island. But when it comes to the Amazon River, Wikipedia readers should be told just how big it really is. When a person or event is in fact important, the reader must be told that—tell them how important and why.

I could not comment on your other edits since they are not mine to begin with. Not that I care whose writing got edited. I just don't have enough background to look through those I did not write. I may however come back with a completely new rewrite when I have time.--Wongjerang 22:49, 2 June 2007 (UTC))(reply)[reply]

You left me two comments. I am going to ignore the first one and only respond to your second one since it is more specific. I will get back with you on the verifiable part. although I am not 100% convinced with your argument. Let me do a little experiment on the TU Delft article (which has similar pattern that I copied on 'comprehensive) and see what happens in the next couple of days. Now on the studies I thought we have settled it long time ago. Saying two facts are different (a<>b) is NOT an opinion. It is simply another fact that the two studies measure two different things. You can't simply remove something because in YOUR opinion it is not a fact. So I am sorry you have not convinced me on this one--Wongjerang 02:18, 3 June 2007 (UTC)))(reply)[reply]

Krupuk

[edit]

Look here, I have rearranged the article and moved it ("Krupuk" did not exist before, strangely). I tried emping last year, didn't like it. Maybe I should have had some rendang with it; the belinjo taste was just too strong for me to eat them pure. Maybe you or somebody else from ID would like to add a picture of some emping (I won't buy these again anytime soon...) Dysmorodrepanis 14:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

Hi Indo, how's it going? I wonder if you could help me. I used the map Indonesia blank map.svg that you uploaded as the basis for Republik Indonesia Serikat.png, here at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Republik_Indonesia_Serikat.png but it has been tagged as having insufficient copyright info. As your image is covered by the GNU Free Documentation Lisence, I know I didn't do anything wrong, but I'm not sure how to classify my image. I don't want to take credit for something based on your work :-) but I don't want the image to be deleted. Could you please either fix it or advise me.
