Images for reduction[edit]

Hi, J Greb. I wonder if you have the time to reduce Image:Lstdfndrs001.jpg. Thank you. GentlemanGhost (talk) 16:48, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I'm in the middle of something with regard to where that image was to be used... I'll look at resizing once I get the 3 talk posts done. - J Greb (talk) 16:54, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Brit01.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Brit01.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:11, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need a second set of eyes[edit]

With Image:Brit01.jpg‎ and User talk:Jbritp#RE: Brit01.jpg, please.

Thanks, - J Greb (talk) 18:48, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. It seems obvious that someone is POV pushing their own version of an image, in violation of the policies you've quoted.
That said, I'm hesitant to speedy the images. (I wouldn't claim to be overly "fluent" in image policy. You're usually my go-to guy concerning images : ) - That said, a note on WP:AN/I requesting experienced image admins might work, I suppose. But maybe just list at WP:IFD? - jc37 10:16, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The bottom line I hit was "Does 3RR cover images pages?" since that's where this was headed. The best I could find was that it does, so I'm at the wait and see point. We hit the 3 yesterday, with notes and warning placed, so, hopefully the FURD gets a chance to actually work and clears the over-sized, unused version.
I was also concerned that I may have been getting overly snarky in tone. I'm still not sure if I went overboard with some of the edit summaries. - J Greb (talk) 14:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having trouble finding these "snarky" edit summaries : )
I honestly think that, if the other user, in spite of warnings, continues on edit warring, it should be brought up on AN/I. - jc37 04:38, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
<shrug> May not be an issue... the editor decided to upload the cover art from a yet-to-be-published issue under a different filename. Similar size problems, but not the dead space. I've resized it, so it's back to wait and see. I've gotten 0 verbal feedback from Jbritp though. - J Greb (talk) 04:45, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My Workspace[edit]

I would rather you did not touch my workspaces for any reason, if you have a problem with something on one of those pages I'd prefer for you to ask me about it first. --Basique (talk) 12:55, 29 December 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Avengers Forever1a-Kang.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Avengers Forever1a-Kang.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:07, 30 December 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Image categories -- game plan?[edit]

I'm really glad to see that someone else has taken an interest in categorizing the comics-related images. I spent some time last month categorizing Category:Comics creator images, which could use much more work (although less than I expected because Wikipedia has fewer artist & writer images than I'd anticipated), but felt daunted by the thought of taking on what might be thousands of other comics-related images. Do you have a basic strategy in mind for approaching this task? Doczilla (talk) 06:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Double-checking FUR on all the images while you're at it seems prudent. Once you've found that a particular editor has added some questionable images, it can be a good idea to glance through that editor's edit history to see if the person has added others. Maybe you'll quickly see that they haven't, but if they have, that can be a quick way to weed out a bunch of FUR or other policy violations. Doczilla (talk) 03:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need a check user run...[edit]

Looking at Revision history of Scarlet Witch it looks like an editor is, accidently or not, using an annom IP as well as his own account to do multiple edits: 1 "cut-and-burn" edit and 3 reverts to that with in 24 hours.

Thanks,

- J Greb (talk) 17:16, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think you have a case for checkuser, since if it is true, it brings the user in violation of the Arbcom ruling.
Even if not, it appears to me that Asgardian (at least using that account, though I have to agree that the IP is suspicious) has just done two reversions in a week. According to Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Asgardian-Tenebrae#Remedies, he's to now be blocked, which I will do in a moment. (I have to read up and see what and where I need to post that I've blocked him.) It says for up to a week, but I think to start off, in this case, we'll start with a 72 hour block. (It may be extended per checkuser results.) - jc37 10:10, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Posted to Checkuser requests... so we're at wait and see.
You may also want to note that 1) Asgardian has removed at least one ArbCom related warning and one ArbCom related black notice from his talk. and 2) that "block" didn't actually block him, or at least it wasn't logged. - J Greb (talk) 15:32, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And we have a positive result - Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Asgardian - So what now? - J Greb (talk) 21:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if you will forgive the intrusion, I've made a possible point of request for clarification at arbcom here, Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration.2FAsgardian-Tenebrae. I'm not sure if I've covered the germane points though, so if people want to add requests, I'd suggest they do so. Hiding T 21:59, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marvel animated universe template[edit]

I'm getting extremely annoyed with people like you constantly insisting on breathing down my neck, lecturing me, and being microspobic with virtually every damn template I try to start on Wikipedia. I'm working as hard as possible to contribute to Wikipedia anyway that I can. Why should it bother you that I'm using "Iron Man" (which I used as basic outline/guide) colors for the Marvel animated universe template? Yes, I'm aware that this is a more general situation, but still, this is getting kind of silly. TMC1982 4:47 p.m., 6 January 2008 (UTC)

It's also silly to belligerently complain about good faith edits.
If the color scheme is a minor thing, then why does it bother you that it was changed to a more neutral set? And if it's because it isn't the colors you decided on for the template, get a grip. Once a template, like anything else on here, is put up, it's open to anyone to edit it. The editor that created it, or put the lion's share or work into it, does not own it, nor should they expect to.
If your problem is the edit summary, I'm sorry that rubbed you the wrong way, but edit summaries are all but mandatory as a short for of why an edit or change was made. That's what it is, my reason as to why the red and yellow was removed.
- J Greb (talk) 01:25, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I never said I owned any template or article on Wikipedia. I just find it increasingly frustrating to have the exact same people tell me what I can or can't do. TMC1982 9:39 p.m., 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Two things:
  1. The tone of your opening post here, most of your posts on the template talk pages, your edits to the templates, and your edit summaries, when you bother to include them, for the same come across as claims of ownership.
  2. And this may sound snarky, but if others have chimed in to point out or fix problems that could get an article or template deleted, or to bring it into line with a cited guideline or consensus, may be you should stop and try and incorporate an awareness of those things as you continue to create and edit content.

Checkuser rule of thumb question...[edit]

Two of 'em at the moment...

  1. Is it allowed to add to a checkuser that hasn't been move to "closed"? And
  2. What's the bare minimum that should trigger a cu?

The reason I'm asking is because of this edit - [2] and Obsidianblackboard's contrib history [3]. The tone, and this specific action feel like the same editor.

- J Greb (talk) 00:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I won't claim to be a CU expert, but to answer, the requirements are on the page. (They have numeric codes.) And you just start a new checkuser (using the template), the clerks will take it from there, as I recall. I hope this helps. - jc37 07:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well... I've posted Obsidianblackboard at check user... and it looks like Asguardian's annon got hit with a 3 week block. - J Greb (talk) 23:00, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Asgardian sockpuppetry[edit]

I think a check user might need to be run on User:Asgardian and User:Darrell37. Brief over shows, comprable edits only made during times when the Asgardian has been blocked (initial Darrell37 starting after Asgardian was blocked), directed insult to a user that Asgardian was edit warring with, pages have been editted on pages Asgardian frequents. I'm not sure how to further investigate this matter, but it seems you've been abreast of the situation. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 01:55, 10 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

I'm not sure it's Asgardian:
  • Darrell37's initial edits happened before Asgardian was blocked - Dec 30. Asgardian was blocked on Jan 6.
  • Only 3 of the article intersect after the block. 2 more intersect prior to it.
  • The almost total lack of edit summaries feels wrong.
  • The one edit summary there is doesn't fit Asgardian's style. It' a fixation on one editor, David A.
  • On the 3 intersects, there isn't a blanket revert to Asgardian's last edits.
Thor has Asgardian doing a compact as the next edit after Darrell37's. That edit reverted Darrel's.
There may be a sock case, but David, who called it in the edit summaries, would need to lay out the case at WP:SOCK. A check user in this case would, I think, just be fishing. - J Greb (talk) 02:35, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am definatly deferring to your experience here. Just to note, the directed comments towards David A. was what grabbed my attention as the two were "colorfully" edit warring on the Odin page. Darrell first started editing following a block on Asgardian due to Abomination in late December. The editting style seems similar in my opinion, specifically the lack of edit summaries which Asgardian was notorious for until 1 yr ago. New Notice Board thing[edit]

Hi, JG. Happy New Year!

Since I'm the first to post at [Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics/Requests_for_comment/Users/2008]] and WPC members might not yet be in the habit of regularly checking that page, I wanted to alert a few longstanding editors to a posting there that I think will be of interest. Thanks and best wishes for WPC in 2008, --Tenebrae (talk) 15:15, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comic & flags[edit]

Hmm, yes. I forgot that the comics creator infobox was where I had one of those flag discussions a while ago. I just encountered some of them in a small list and removed them. If no objections I probably will go through the infobox list and remove them all in the near future. Garion96 (talk) 20:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cloud 9.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cloud 9.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:39, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:X-Men -169.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:X-Men -169.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pryde of the X-Men template[edit]

I should've figured that you were going to sooner or later, butt in with your own damn opinion (since, you've practically anoited yourself the official policeman of comic book related templates)~ At least this time, you didn't bother to complain about the color schemes. TMC1982 6:09 p.m., 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Good call, J Greb, nominating yet another useless and wasteful template. Pairadox (talk) 13:21, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody ask you for your "insightful" opinion! Why don't you bend over for J Greb more often! :( TMC1982 4:15 p.m., 16 January 2008 (UTC)

TMC, you should review both WP:CIVILITY and WP:NPA policies for the conduct of editors. You've seriously breached Civility, and are skirting NPA. - J Greb (talk) 00:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ring image[edit]

This has been deleted previously. (The previous uploader is the same as the current uploader.) So essentially, this seems to be a recreation as well. In addition, I highly doubt that this was created by the user, but rather seems like a cut from something else. I welcome your thoughts : ) - jc37 06:53, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other locations online have that same image, e.g., [4] (scroll down to Books), and despite all the words in this next picture, it's the same ring with the same variations in light and dark: [5] Doczilla (talk) 07:18, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I'll add it to my watch list. Doczilla (talk) 01:32, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was reading the talk page for GL template, read a comment of another user stating that this page is a mess. This template has had some ownership problems in the past, and I know you have provided some great input for suggestions to provide uniformity to the most recent addition of comic book navbox's. I was hoping you could stop by and provide a few comments to help provide a more consistant application of style with this box. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 23:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]
