Faag

Faag फाग is a popular genre of folk songs from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, which is located in the northern part of the country. The term "Faag" is derived from the words "Fagun" and "Phalgun", which are the names of the twelfth and last months in the Hindu calendar. These months correspond to the period of February and March, which is when the festival of Holi is celebrated in India.

Faag songs are usually sung during the Holi festival and are known for their lively and energetic music. The lyrics of these songs often revolve around the themes of love, romance, and the celebration of Holi. These songs has many versions depending on place they are sung like “Dehati Faag”, Bhadawari Faag ,”Rajputi Faag”, “Mahabharat Faag” etc. The songs are typically sung in a call-and-response format, with a lead singer singing a line and the chorus responding with a repeated phrase or refrain.

You can experience the faag songs from youtube channel FaagLok ^[1], this channel is based in Sarokhipura village in Jaitpur Kalan block of Bah tehsil in Agra and having dehati faag songs and Languriya songs. Lyrics of Faag songs is available on blog Bhadawarlok ^[2]
