Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, WATATAWA IHH. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:56, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

Request reason:

Dear Longhair, I am writing to appeal for the team to help assist with unblocking this account. We are IHH's PR agency and made changes to the IHH Wikipedia page on 10 September 2021 as some of the information was outdated such as the revenue and the number of employees and location of operations was inaccurate. The edits we made were to reflect the most updated public information and maintain a neutral point of view. We disclosed in one of the edit summaries that it was a COI contribution, but understand from the Terms of Use that alternative methods include making a statement on our user page and on the talk page, but we did not do so. Our account has since been blocked and the IHH page now reflects this disclaimer - This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. (September 2021). Would you be able to advise on the next steps to unblock our account and remove the disclaimer on IHH's Wikipedia page? Please let us know if any further disclosures are needed so that we may be unblocked? We are only editing the factually incorrect information so that readers will have access to accurate information so we would really appreciate your help on this! Thank you!

Decline reason:

You will need to make the paid editing disclosure as required by the Terms of Use; you may do so on this page. Please review conflict of interest and describe the correct way for someone with a conflict of interest to make contributions in the area of their conflict of interest. Please also understand that while Wikipedia strives to be accurate, it is not necessarily a place for up to the minute current information. Your client is free to provide that information on their own website. Again, Wikipedia strives to be accurate, but it must be done in the correct manner in keeping with Wikipedia's purpose as a neutral encyclopedia. Much of the language you added was promotional in nature("It offers a full spectrum of integrated healthcare services") and will need to be reviewed by an independent editor who can then remove the maitenance notice(not a "disclaimer"). Wikipedia has no interest in public relations or the internet presence of your clients, Wikipedia is only interested in summarizing independent reliable sources say. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 18:39, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

As I am the administrator who blocked your account, it is normal practice for another administrator to review your unblock request. -- Longhair\talk 08:53, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note for reviewing administrator: WATATAWA is a Public Relations and Communications company with IHH Healthcare as one of their clients [1]. -- Longhair\talk 08:53, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi wiki admin team, I have updated this unblock request after following Yamla's reply.

  • I understand that I was blocked because I failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. I have since made the necessary disclosures.
  • I will not continue to cause damage, disruption or mislead with any changes made
  • I will make useful contributions instead.

The main purpose of this unblock request is to request for an independent editor to review/remove the maintenance notice on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IHH_Healthcare since the necessary disclosures have been made. Thanks as always!

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 10:45, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your current username is unacceptable. As per Wikipedia's username policy, your account name cannot represent a company, organization or group of people (see WP:CORPNAME). An acceptable variation is to include the name of the individual who operates this account (e.g. "Mark at WATATAWA") to clearly denote individual use.
Only one person - the same person - may have access to this account for its entire lifetime. Sharing an account amongst multiple people is also a violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and evidence of shared use will result in an immediate re-block. If several individuals at your company want to edit Wikipedia, then each person must create their own account for their sole access. Naturally, each one of them would be required to make the same paid editing disclosures. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 05:52, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot and Drm310, thank you for your assistance and for flagging the username guidelines. I have submitted a request and the rename request is currently pending approval. Appreciate your help as always.
