Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, John.gardenghi. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Algencan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:17, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can you respond to this? I have restored Draft:Algencan. Jay (talk) 14:01, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you so much. I will improve ans try to ressubmit. John.gardenghi (talk) 14:45, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    You are welcome. My question really was do you have a conflict of interest with Algencan as asked by user DoubleGrazing. Jay (talk) 15:02, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    OK, sorry. I am new to editing in Wikipedia, I didn't notice the question. No, I do not have any conflict of interest. I am not being influenced by any external factor. Futher, I am not expressing my opinion, but only facts. Finally, I am writing about an optimization software that I use and also contribute (it's open source) that is missing a page here in wikipedia. Dear @Clearfrienda,
I am resubmited this draft, trying to clarify and cite the main points you indicated.
Nevertheless, I would like to clarify that according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_Lagrangian_method, Algencan is one of the few available software that implements an augmented Lagrangian method; and it has a book, published by SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) dedicated to it. The main Algencan's paper, published in 2007, has more than 400 citations, according to Google Scholar, with applications in several different areas, such as Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, and Computer Science. Needless to say, with all our respect, this is much more than most of the other optimization solvers that possess a wiki page. John.gardenghi (talk) 20:05, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A request for clarification[edit]

Above, in the section headed "Managing a conflict of interest", you said "I do not have any conflict of interest". Obviously, in the context that should mean that you do not have any conflict of interest in the sense of that term which is briefly summarised in the message from DoubleGrazing, and described more fully in Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest. It is important to be clear what that sense is, since it differs somewhat from ways that the expression "conflict of interest" is used in some other contexts. To avoid any doubt, please give an unambiguous answer to the following question: Does any of your writing on Wikipedia refer to your own work, your colleagues or collaborators, work of your colleagues or collaborators, or anyone or anything else to which you have any other personal connection?
