Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Joseguardiola2, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Draft:Sara Akant, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

New to Wikipedia? Please consider taking a look at our introductory tutorial or reviewing the contributing to Wikipedia page to learn the basics about editing. Below are a few other good pages about article creation.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, ask me on my talk page or you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! – NJD-DE (talk) 23:49, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Sara Akant requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.prairielights.com/live/margaret-ross-sara-deniz-akant and https://www.saradenizakant.com/writing. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – NJD-DE (talk) 23:49, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Naomi Jackson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability isn't clear and a more extensive version of the page exists at Draft:Naomi Jackson. It should be improved and resubmitted there.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. BuySomeApples (talk) 21:21, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I've been working on the Draft you said was more extensive. While it is more extensive, it has a few core problems. Namely, it cites sponsored content, and it's difficult to discern which is sponsored and which is not. Because of this, contrary to what I said21:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC), I would rather work on my own page than on the draft.
I think my notability is clear enough from the "Honors and awards" section. There are many contemporary authors that are less notable than Naomi with Wikipedia pages, like I mentioned 21:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC). I do sincerely believe that this is notable enough, but tomorrow, 6/6/2022, I will go in and add a "reception" part with non-bias sources. Joseguardiola2 (talk) 15:11, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve linked to her several awards and publications. Much less notable authors also have Wikipedia pages. I fear, too, that the less notable authors who have pages are disproportionately not POC. Expanding Wikipedia’s scope to include more African American authors is important. Joseguardiola2 (talk) 21:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, I see that there's a draft more extensive than mine. I'm fine with deleting my page and contributing to that draft. Joseguardiola2 (talk) 21:48, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deborah E. Kennedy moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Deborah E. Kennedy, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Joseguardiola2. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:43, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that the common denominator in the articles you publish seems to be that all the writers are alumni of the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Please provide details of your relationship with the same, as detailed above. If you have no such relationship, please state that in response to this message. Thank you, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:45, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your concern. I have no personal relation to any of the subjects I have created articles about, although I have reached out to a few of them to ask questions relevant to the creation of the article.
I am a student at the University of Iowa who is creating Wikipedia pages for IWW graduates as a scholarship project. However, I have no intention of advertising their work, I am not paid by the authors whose Wikipedia pages I create nor am I paid by any organization invested in selling or advertising their books to any capacity.
I strive for nonbiased discussion. I include negative reviews in my "reception" section, as shown in the page I created about Naomi Jackson.
Thank you for sharing the "managing conflict of interest." I will disclose the scholarship as a potential COI Joseguardiola2 (talk) 16:10, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
