Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Josh the newcastle fan! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 942 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Mike McLean (rugby league) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Troy Fletcher - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Ok thanks about that. I'll fix those up. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 03:00, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

RL project tag

Hi Josh, would you mind putting WikiProject Rugby league on the talk pages of any rugby league articles you create please? If you could fill it out along these lines:
{{WikiProject Rugby league |class=stub |importance=low |needs-infobox=yes}} it would be a great help. Thanks, LunarLander // talk // 16:46, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Alright, I'll get those done. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 22:31, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks for that. LunarLander // talk // 22:36, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I've just stopped WikiProject Rugby league linking through to the template because I've set up a 'talk page watchlist' for the rl project (see the header at the top of the project talk) and it was including your talk page in the recent changes. LunarLander // talk // 02:04, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi I'm back, congrats on creating over 100 articles. You seem to be up to speed on wp:BLP so I've made your account an wp:autoreviewer. ϢereSpielChequers 20:23, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Brett Shore requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Hi Josh, I have been using Flickr to find images freely usable under a Creative Commons license - it is possible to search the site specifically for images that fit Wikipedia's requirements of being released under Creative Commons and being free for commercial use. Any such image may be used without permission.

With Flickr it should be fairly easy to ask a contributor to consider changing the license of an image, on other websites you would probably have to email the owner/webmaster of the site or creator of the image. Generally speaking, you need to ask permission to use any copyrighted material - you can make a claim of Fair Use, but that might be difficult with active sportsmen as it would not be considered difficult enough to find or create a free alternative.

I hope that I've explained that OK, image policy is very technical because of the legal aspects and I am far from an expert. Wikipedia:Image use policy probably explains it better than I can. Let me know if you have any questions. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 16:12, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for making an egregious personal attack.. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Going out of your way to be rude and nasty to a user that has already received a rather long block for their actions shows about as much class as poking a caged animal with a stick. Click here for an essay on this topic. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:27, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I was only saying that stuff because I was angry that he vandalized one of the pages I created. I do see the error of my ways though. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 04:02, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. There are loads of free use images at flickr. You just have to set the advanced search settings to search out the ones that can be used here at wikipedia. BTW there were loads of Newcastle ones when I last had a chance to look.Lando09 (talk) 08:04, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Good Job

Hey man, keep up the good work - I had fun expanding the Newcastle/NZ player pages you created. Mattlore (talk) 00:50, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

I'll add my good job on the Newcastle Knights page, Josh. Much appreciated. Benyoch ...Don't panic! Don't panic!... (talk) 14:02, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed....

Hey,

I noticed that you are adding Rick Stone to the coach transfers but I though he fulltime coached the Newcastle Knights last year.

mgt98

Or you can add him back but you say that it was mid season.

Don't know I'm a Panther.

Hey Josh, do you have a source for switching Aaron and Zeb around? Zeb started the match while Aaron was on the bench so usually Zeb would have the higher number. Mattlore (talk) 23:05, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, i looked at one of the sources at the NZRL you had at the bottom of the page. Coincidentally, I don't think it works anymore. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:49, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Fair enough, that's a shame, nzleague.co.nz was a good unofficial source. I guess we will have to wait until the NZRL update there official website to be sure. Mattlore (talk) 22:48, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

List of Blues Players

Josh, I would have thought that this approach and this approach are two distinct articles. On the former there is much information that's not on the latter. On the latter we have a cap number and clarity as to a player's debut match. But I can't see that there's a justification for re-directing the former to the latter. Would you mind undoing the re-direct ? -Sticks66 07:42, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

rlp tag

Hey Josh, just letting you know that you can use a pipe with {{rlp}} to add in multiple positions. So you can do {{rlp|CE|WG}} instead of {{rlp|WG}} {{rlp|CE}}. Don't bother going back and changing the ones you've done though, just a tip for the future! Mattlore (talk) 11:30, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Alright, i'll remember that for next time. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 23:42, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Please be civil

I noticed your edit summary on a page in my watchlist, and feel like reminding you that you should be civil on Wikipedia. This isn't a warning or anything, just a reminder. Gawaxay (talk contribs count) 19:52, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Yeah sorry about that. I just got a bit angry when someone kept vandalizing the page. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 23:34, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Just remember that an edit summary is for summarizing your edit. There will always be vandals, so there's no reason to let them anger you. Gawaxay (talk contribs count) 01:48, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

The article Chad Redman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has not played first-grade rugby league, so fails WP:ATH

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mkativerata (talk) 22:03, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

I have also proposed Neenan Simpson, Jake Finn and Chris Adams (rugby league).--Mkativerata (talk) 22:14, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

I created those articles because they are notable non-first graders that all have a chance to make first-grade this year. There are other articles on Wikipedia about players that havn't played first-grade yet such as Kevin Naiqama and Peter Mata'utia, but they are very notable. So i would not want those pages you suggested deleted. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:17, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Josh, if you want to object to these proposed deletions, I'd suggest reading Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, which tells you how to dispute those prods and remove them from the articles. The prodder could then take the article to wp:AFD where contentious deletions are discussed, and though I'm no expert on sport, I think that a player who has not yet made the first team is unlikely to merit an article unless there has been a lot of press coverage of them. If the article is deleted by a prod, you could just wait for the player to make their first team appearance and then ask for the article to be restored at wp:REFUND - restoring an article deleted because the chap hasn't yet played for the first team after the he has played for first team should be a pretty clearcut case. If you dispute the prod and it goes to AFD and the decision there is to delete, then again restoration should be straightfoward once the chap gets to play - you can either ask the admin who closes the AFD or file a request at Wikipedia:Deletion review ϢereSpielChequers 11:35, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi there - just a note to say that I don't think I'll send these to AfD now that you've contested the prods - there's no need to fight tooth and nail to delete reasonably sourced material. And you are quite right that some of these players might play first grade soon (especially considering Newcastle's form this season!). But I might re-visit at the end of the season if any of the players haven't yet made first grade. I hope you understand that these players don't meet the notability guidelines for athletes (WP:ATH). Those guidelines are arbitary in a sense, but they also serve to limit the proliferation of biographies on living persons. If you stopped editing, who would keep these biographies updated? --Mkativerata (talk) 20:42, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:15, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Would you know whether this is the David Smith that played for Widnes? As according to rugbyleagueproject, he played in Widnes' 1989 World Club Challenge win over Canberra Raiders. Cheers. DynamoDegsy (talk)

Yeah, it is. I must have missed it. I'll change it now. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:25, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

2010 squads

Hey,

I have had trouble finding a small picture for a suspended player. I currently have a red X but have not had any luck finding something for suspension. I noticed you had the injury icon and the captain pic so maybe you could help find a pic for a suspension.

Rollback

Hi Josh, I notice you revert a certain amount of vandalism, would you be interested in having Rollback? If so have a read of wp:Rollback and tell me when you would and wouldn't use it. Cheers ϢereSpielChequers 09:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind having it. I would use it to revert all the usual vandalisms i undo & if i thought something was constructive but not needed i would probably edit it but not use rollback on it. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 10:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

OK I've done that, the key thing to remember is that when you rollback anyone else you are labelling their edit as vandalism - though if you rollback yourself you are merely fessing up to a mistake. ϢereSpielChequers 12:28, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

October 2010

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on St. George Dragons. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Mkativerata (talk) 05:26, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

It appears that you've been using rollback to revert edits in this dispute. Please remember rollback is for clear cases of vandalism only, not to revert in content disputes (even if you think the edits you're reverting are misguided or plain wrong). --Mkativerata (talk) 05:37, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that :p. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 05:47, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Kalifa Fai-Fai Loa

Hey Josh, are you sure about the move? Apart from the naming of the Toyota Cup team most sources I've found refer to him as Fai Fai Loa. Mattlore (talk) 01:44, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes i'm sure. His NRL profile has the hiphen & if you look up "Kalifa Fai Fai Loa" on Google most results come up with the hiphen. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 01:47, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

RL Players

Hi there, I posted this at User:Sticks66 page yesterday, and I see he's started on the list... but as they say, many hands... I've been trying to reference or delete all unreferenced biographies of living people. I've got the Australian list down from over 400 in August to about 150 now. I've been tracking what articles are left, and I've now completed all of the sporting ones... except for about 2221 rugby league players. I'm finding them very hard to reference, as I don't know which of stats.rleague.com, yesterday's heroes or rugbyleagueproject are really reliable or complete. Could I ask a huge favour of you and request that you complete the referencing of the remaining players? At the moment the list is:

  1. Jim Pizanias has not played 1st grade in Australia; I would heave this article
  2. John Coveney needs infobox
  3. Josh Lewis (rugby league footballer)
  4. Keith Agget
  5. Ken Ashcroft
  6. Lee Rose (rugby league)
  7. Malcolm Clift
  8. Matt Bickerstaff
  9. Matthew Wurth
  10. Michael Henderson (rugby league)
  11. Mick Mullane
  12. Mike Wylie
  13. Nick Yakich
  14. Norm Rogers (rugby league)
  15. Peter Wright (rugby league)
  16. Rex Wright
  17. Rod Wright
  18. Ron Costello
  19. Ron Saddler
  20. Russell Wyer
  21. Sid Hobson
  22. Tony Mestrov

As someone who only watches some highlights of the NRL Grand Final each year, and "aerial ping pong" the rest of the time, it's been tough trying to reference people that I have no idea about. I have asked at the Aust RL WikiProject in the past, and got not much action, so anything you can do will be greatly appreciated. If you like doing this sort of thing then there are the 79 players on the International RL list, or plenty lists of UBLPs by sport or almost any other topic you can think of.

I also see that you've just created a bunch more, which only have a link in the "external links" section. Some people consider these unreferenced, and hence will tag them as such, and may even try to have them deleted under the WP:BLPPROD rules. I disagree, but to make everyone happy, it is just as easy to just put that link between <ref></ref> tags inline, rather than just at the end. You probably should stick a stub template on them too, rather than just the expand one. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 15:38, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Passionate/Rabid

Why not rabid? As a Knights fan I don't really care if I'm called rabid in fact I'd take pride in it! Plus in the source it says rabid not passionate so why not just say rabid? I'll wait your reply. --Airship (whoops) (talk) 08:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
