Using IMDb as a source

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your contributions to the article Phil foster. I'm leaving you this note to let you know that the IMDb is acceptable as a source for only certain information, as per Wikipedia:Citing IMDb. Any articles about actors have to satisfy the notability requirements for people in general and actors in particular. As well, since he is still alive, an article about him will need to conform to Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons. Thank you. --Drm310 (talk) 00:30, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Justinlovesfilms. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Phil foster, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Phil foster to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks, VVikingTalkEdits 00:42, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your reference

[edit]

Hi again. There's a couple of problems with the reference you added at Phil foster. First, references used to verify a certain statement should be placed immediately after the statement. That's referred to as an inline citation. You can get more help on how this is done at Help:Referencing for beginners.

The other problem is the source itself. It appears to be a fan-run site or blog, which is a type of source referred to as a self-published source. Self-published sources can only be used with great caution, particularly as a source for a biography of a living person. To quote that policy, "Some news organizations host online columns that they call blogs, and these may be acceptable as sources so long as the writers are professionals and the blog is subject to the newspaper's full editorial control. Posts left by readers are never acceptable as sources."

To prove this person's basic notability, you'll have to find some non-trivial coverage in sources that are considered reliable. --Drm310 (talk) 21:40, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
