Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Kbrunet2 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! — Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:01, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Antonymes

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Antonymes. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Opposite (semantics). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Opposite (semantics). If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. ToThAc (talk) 18:34, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi - you shouldn't create a new article unless it's a different topic from an existing article. I'm also kind of confused as to why you removed content from the main article "Opposite (semantics)". You marked that it was a French translation, however your edit summary makes it seem like you translated the article into another language. Did you remove content in order to make it more closely resemble the French Wikipedia article? If so, keep in mind that the Wikipedia entries do not have to be identical and in general the English language entries do tend to be substantially larger than the pages on the same topics on other language Wikipedias, so the expected option is to use the English article to expand the foreign language entry. A tag has been placed on Antonymes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Wrong Wikipedia, this needs to go to fr.wikipedia.org and is a French translation of an English article

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:51, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello, Kbrunet2, and welcome to Wikipedia! While efforts to improve Wikipedia are always welcome, unfortunately your contributions are not written in an English that is good enough to be useful. You appear to be more familiar with French; did you know there is a French Wikipedia? You may prefer to contribute there instead. In any case, welcome to the project, and thank you for your efforts! If you need help, please feel free to notify me on my talk page. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bienvenue!

~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Has your supervisor advised you of the existence of the French Wikipedia and if not, why not? Please reply. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:29, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Kbrunet2, please don't re-create the article on the English Wikipedia. Any French translations of content must go on the French Wikipedia entry at fr:Antonymy. Any non-English content will be deleted from the English Wikipedia. I must warn you, reposting the content is seen as disruptive, so please don't continue trying to repost this on the English Wikipedia. I'll contact your professor to make sure that the students are aware that they need to be posting French language content to the French Wikipedia.
