User deletion

[edit]

As far as I know, it shouldn't be necessary to delete an account. there are already thousands of junk accounts from sockpuppets and people blocked on sight for usernames, etc., so there shouldn't be any harm in there being one more. bureaucrats can change usernames, but I don't know that anyone can actually delete a user. by the way, good work on the matt leinart vandal sockpuppet category. i'm adding a few more from my block log. let me know if you need anything, and keep up the good work.--Alhutch 06:46, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible to delete an account. I think I saw this on User talk:Curps, but I'm not sure. Someone found a Curps imposter account that was blocked, yet didn't exist. Following on the dinosaur bones hence dinosaurs hypothesis, accounts which once were living and existant can become extinct and nonexistant. Of course, there are those people who say that the bones of the accounts were buried in the block logs by the infallible Jimbo the Merciful and don't actually prove the existence of accounts at all. :)—WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 04:29, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note. I've been trying to do better. I would like to expunge some of my earlier comments that were borne out of taking some things too personally, but it looks like they are part of my "Permanent Record". :\ Mostly, I've been cutting back on too-personal shots in the edit summaries, but I'm not perfect. :) Wahkeenah 08:05, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The one thing that really gets under my skin is the refusal of another party to discuss things. I can handle heated discussions, arguments over how to do things. I just don't like being dissed. But as you say, it's all part of the learning process. :) Wahkeenah 08:18, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • good job on the sockpuppet check. keep it up.--Alhutch 06:01, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.203.227.80 (talkcontribs)

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. 151.203.227.80 18:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, you even have it worse than the rest of us... Well, at least he's been blocked (yay, a three-hour break...). For the record: 151.203.227.80 is a vandal itself. --Chodorkovskiy 19:03, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marshall pointers for your gf

[edit]

I dont know how long she has been here, but here are some things she may or may not know by now: The Starbucks at Merrit Creek is much better than the one at Pullman Square and is worth the drive; Sams hotdogs are superior to Stewarts in every way; Hussons makes the best pizza (despite the creepy commercials) and Monty's is OVERRATED; Randy Moss is actually a good guy (despite what she might hear); tutoring at the student athletes program is a pretty good gig if she needs some spare cash; Gabriel Bros is a great place to find name brand clothes at Walmart prices (even if it requires some scavenging); and Julian's market in the South Side is the best place for meat and deli items (a bit pricey on other groceries, though). Oh yea, and if you can't go Greek, go Teke. :) Keep up the good work. youngamerican (talk) 12:16, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Java Joint does rock, but parking there is almost non-existant. Plus, it breaks my heart that the Calamity Cafe no longer exists (the former occupant). youngamerican (talk) 02:29, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

[edit]
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

ArbCom

[edit]

I've been named party in an arbcom case, regarding AfDs. I'd ask that you go to WP:RFAR, go to the case entitled Monicasdude, and offer your thoughts as to my conduct in AfDs. If you'd like to know my thoughts about the case in general, that can be discussed on my talk page as well. Thanks. SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 23:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph Cardinal Zen vandalism revert

[edit]

Be careful when you use a vandal-reverting tool. If a vandal makes several consecutive edits, it's important to revert all of the edits, not just one. See for instance [1], which left vandalism in place. -- Curps 06:41, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message, I was in the middle of typing one to you about it. I was trying out the VandalProof tool, but there's a script bug that wasn't letting me rollback properly. I moved over to my browser to fix it but you caught it already. Thanks for the work! T K E 06:44, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Craig Cantin vs User talk:Craig.cantin

[edit]

Hi there TKE! Just thought I ought to mention that the welcome message you added is on User talk:Craig Cantin instead of User talk:Craig.cantin. I made the same mistake myself when I tried to send a message to the user, and I had to have it speedily deleted! ConDemTalk 13:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Keegan/April 06. Thank you for your support in my RfA! It passed with a final tally of 91/3/5. I am quite humbled and pleased by the community's show of confidence in me. If you need help or just want to talk, let me know. Cheers! -- Fang Aili 說嗎?

Hello,

An Arbitration case involving you has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Monicasdude. Please add evidence to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Monicasdude/Evidence. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Monicasdude/Workshop.

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee, Johnleemk | Talk 00:51, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you voted before I finished the nomination. Please check if you still want to delete. savidan(talk) (e@) 06:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LOL, I'm with you simultaniously. T K E 06:53, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to vote delete on your nomination, it's assumed since you're the nominator. Just make sure the editor of the article has been notified, and it's off to the races!

Okay I won't from now on. And as for notifying the editor, do I post to the editor that I have nominated this article for deletion? --soUmyaSch 07:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thnx. :) --soUmyaSch 07:24, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for supporting me in my RfA. I really didn't think people appreciate my work here that much, but it's nice to see you do: my Request was closed with 66 supports and 4 opposes. I'll do my best not to turn your confidence down. If in any point in the future you get the feeling I'm doing something wrong, do not hesitate to drop me a line. --Dijxtra 11:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tag

[edit]

Thank you for helping to identify Wikipedia articles for cleanup! In case you didn't know, it's not recommended to use subst: with the cleanup tag. Leaving the actual template in place helps make it easier to automatically refile the page later, and allows changes to the template to show up on all tagged pages. Thanks again, Beland 18:07, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I actually did know that. It was late and there was an AIV against the vandal and whatnot. Sorry! TeKE 19:37, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

[edit]

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Barnstar

[edit]

Why thank you very much. As you noted, I've done a little bit of everything here over the last twelve months trying to find the niche that I fit into best. I'll probably run for adminship later this summer when I have more time to devote to the wiki, but right now I'm content, given my small amount of free time, to do vandal fighting and gnome work—I really should use the minor edit box more often. —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 14:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Barnstar and irony

[edit]

I'm having fun right now because:

  • I've just used every type of wikimarkup hierarchical structuring format on talk pages in the last half hour (your's/yours[??] and the IP's)
  • I'm not studying for the mutliple tests I have next week.
  • I'm doing good work on the wiki.

Anyway, I'm still not sure how/why you came across my interaction with this person. Honestly, I don't really care. Thank you for your help in explaining stuff/calming them. I find that I am very good at explaining things including ref/help desk and working the help desk email list before it closed, but RC patrolling left me somewhat cynical and quick to jump to conclusions based on trends I observed. That's one of the reasons that I stopped RC work. I find I'm getting better, but being patient and sticking to AGF are the two areas I can improve in. Sorry, I just realized I was starting to write a self nom on your talk page. I'll save it for June:)WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 04:15, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ha, I understand. Even being flamed, as long as I'm being civil it is fun for me. I like the user's conversation with you as well, you are AGF with the user as you should be; the person truly did need explaining. Translation problems make it more of a challenge, and all that more fun and valuable. RC patrolling can be a lot less stressful once you know the editing patterns of whom to pay attention to and warn and whatnot; driveby vandalism just gets driveby revision from me. And I came across your discussion in the Recent Changes using VandalProof, something you may be interested in. Teke 04:27, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is a synthesis of others that I have seen. That's why it's so long. Please feel free to use it. As for VandalProof, I have been aware of it for a long time, but until there is a mac compatible version...—WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 05:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was teasing about the license, I'm not always serious. Anyway, someday on the VandalProof. Until we meet again, happy editing! Teke 05:21, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I updated your boxen. The edit summary/diff explains quite well. —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 04:24, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
