Welcome!

Hello, Kellyempire09, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Ortles Alps, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. [edit]

Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia pages, such as those you made to Ortler, even if you intend to fix them later. Such edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:21, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

[edit]

Please do not make such wholesale changes in articles without a discussion first. Clearly the name of the mountain or range varies by country; in Italian it is Ortles, in German it is Ortler. I suspect that English speakers have settled on Ortler. As this is the English Wikipedia, that is the name that should be used. If you wish to challenge that consensus, bring up the matter on the talk page first rather than just make a unanimous decision to change such a fundamental fact of the article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:37, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please obtain consensus on this change that you insist upon. If you do not, your actions will be taken as vandalism. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:56, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to have to report you to the administrators for your continued defiance of consensus guidelines. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:16, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your editing privileges have been indefinitely suspended restored

[edit]

Per this edit and Wikipedia:No legal threats. I was reviewing your contributions and was tending toward a short block so you might re-appraise your disruptive approach toward consensual editing, but the implicit intent of ending complaints against your edits by referring to legal repercussions decided me to impose a suspension of your ability to edit any page other than this until you withdraw your threats and agree to work to consensus. LessHeard vanU (talk) 18:28, 2 September 2009 (UTC) Following a representation from WikiDan61 (talk · contribs) I have unblocked this account. Please listen carefully to the above editors advice, and ensure you understand Wikipedia's practices and policies before continuing with your editing. LessHeard vanU (talk) 18:44, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|i'm asking to unblock my ID because i just fixed some names such as Ortles, Palla Bianca, but i repeat there are several mistakes about the geographical name of mountains, valleys, etc...of the Province of Bolzano that need to be fixed, i just think it could be very malicious indicating the German names instead the English ones, mostly in a region afflicted by ethnic tensions and controversies. I hope this drawback will be solved in a few time avoiding strives and disputes in the local debates in the region of Trentino Alto Adige. As i said before, i will report such mistakes to the competent authorities.

Before returning to your previous edits, please find reliable sources that indicate that the names that have existed in Wikipedia are wrong. Keep in mind that places may have different names in different languages. For example, although the Italians call their capital city Roma, we in the English speaking world call it Rome. On the English Wikipedia, the city is listed as Rome, not Roma. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:06, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of it, but i think it's very controversial to use the term stilfs instead of the wider used Stelvio, the term Sulden than Solda, Ortles than Ortler...Then there are several mistakes such as the Range of Ötztal Alps that is an Austrian Range not an Italian one and the mountain Palla Bianca doesn't belong to it but to the Venosta Apls Range. I fixed them several time but it appeared wrong again...i'm quitting tonite but i'm decided in reporting all of these mistakes and inconsistencies to the italian authorities and i hope they will be fixed in a few time.

Read this. Because they are controversial, these name changes should be discussed on talk pages first. If they are agreed, your copy&paste efforts mean that you will need to get an admin to do the moves. Also please sign talk page comments with ~~~~. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:02, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

Your reaction to the above message was to promptly do this edit. I have blocked you briefly. Do not make any attempt to rename this article. Instead, raise the matter at talk:Ortler. Even if there is agreement for a change, do not do it - ask me or any other admin. Do you understand? You are allowed to edit this page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see that this matter has been extensively discussed at Talk:Communes of the province of Bolzano-Bozen. Please abide by the decisions reached there. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:29, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ortles is the mountain between the Region Lombardy ( italian speaking)and the region Trentino Alto Adige (german and italian speaking) so the right term should be Ortles not Ortler, look at this http://www.solda2000.com/ then all the names of all the topoghraphic names should be in italian followed by the german translation as expressed by the italian costitution. this is a big mistake. let fix it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kellyempire09 (talkcontribs)

Italian Costitution indeed! Could you provide a link to the relevant bit of the Costitution please? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:46, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course i will, it is in italian and it clearly indicate the right use of all the term in the Region Trentino Alto Adige: every topographic term must be in itlain followed by the translation in the local language, german or ladin or both. So the only use of only one term is wrong and offensive for any community in the Region and violate the italian costitution and the regional statute. Here it is the Statuto della Regione Trentino Alto Adige: http://www.regione.taa.it/normativa/statuto_speciale.pdf
Then the Ortles mountain is between two regions, Lombardy ,where there are no german minoritis and Trentino Alto Adige. So the use of Ortles that is german, the english term is Ortles, look at this: www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-Ortles.htm and this http://www.solda2000.com/homeen.htm.
This means that Ortles is wrong and at least should be called in Ortles and Ortler, english and german, it is between two regions whith two different terms.
The Italian Costitution, "ARTICOLO 116 DELLA COSTITUZIONE ITALIANA": L'articolo 116 della Costituzione della Repubblica italiana recita: "La Regione Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol è costituita dalle Province autonome di Trento e di Bolzano". L'Ente pertanto utilizza in tutti i suoi atti la doppia denominazione "Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano - Alto Adige" (ufficialmente tradotto in tedesco nella forma "Autonome Provinz Bozen - Südtirol"). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kellyempire09 (talkcontribs) - yet again
The Italian Constitution may indeed dictate what names are to be used for these regions. But that dictate only applies to official documents of the Italian government, which Wikipedia is not. The English Wikipedia names places using the name most common among English speakers. The Italian Wikipedia (http://it.wikipedia.org) may use the Italian names or not, that is their business. The business of the English Wikipedia is to provide information that is most useful to English speakers, and this is not subject to the laws or the constitution of Italy. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:03, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to invoke the Constitution is pointless anyway. I assume that this document is the official translation. Nowhere in it can I see any prescription as to the languages to be used. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:35, 3 September 2009 (UTC) Kellyempire09 (talk) 19:53, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oke, i think you didn't grab the real gravity of the facts. I'm explaining it in the following rows and i hope to be clear in all the passages: The Italian Constitution and the Statue of the Region Trentino Alto Adige, "Costituzione Italiana" and the "Statuto della Regione Autonoma Trentino-Alto Adige-Sudtyrol" are official documents recognized in Italy and in the EU. They are the ONLY documents which regulate about any use of the term of all the toponyms of the Region Trentino Alto Adige, in this case, and ward the use in any official documents and in any documents of public domain. I'll make an example: If any persons would write a feature in any news papers in any country issued in Italy as well, or in an other country of the EU, about a wrong denomination, mostly if used with a malicious and wicked tendency to ethnic attritions, such as the use of the name Ortler instead Ortles, is a public domain document, even if unofficial, and in any case legally punishable by the Italian Authorities and conclusively by the European Authorities. Now i think the business of the English Wikipedia concerns Italy and the EU and pushing to ethnic clashes, such as the malicious use of wrong or impartial terms, mostly terms concerning a Region where ethnic tensions are commonly and popularly recognized and people is generally sensitive about the use of the toponyms, is not the business of the English Wikipedia. Besides i think violating a national law, especially if it is the Constitution of that Country, is not the business and the will of the English Wikipedia, and i think the will and business of any language Wikipedia in any time. Well i think this fault, which is not just a trifle, could be easily fixed changing every wrong names places and using the topography as legislated. In the end i think i have to make clear what are the English terms for many toponyms, avoiding confusion with the Italian and the German ones, and providing information that is most useful and exhaustive to English speakers: -Ötztal Alps is clearly a non-English word, it is de facto a mistake. -Ortles Alps is the right term rather Ortler Alps, here it is an example: Ortles, The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition | 2008 | and here it is the link: http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-Ortles.html but i think you can better find a clarification in the competent Italian institutional site. -Weißkugel is clearly a non-English word, it is de facto a mistake, and the English term, which is Palla Bianca/Weißkugel or Palla Bianca redirects to the German one. -Wilder Freiger, Hochfeiler, Dreiherrnspitze, Dreischusterspitze, are clearly non-English word, and it is de facto a mistake for every term and the English terms, which are respectively Cima Libera/Wilder Freiger, Gran Pilastro/Hochfeiler, Picco dei Tre Signori/Dreiherrnspitze, Punta Tre Scarperi/Dreischusterspitze or the terms Cima Libera, Gran Pilastro, Picco dei Tre Signori, Punta Tre Scarperi redirect to the German ones. In any case this case will be debated as topic in the board of directors of my Village and my Province during next weeks as i pointed this morning and as i affirmed yesterday.

Kellyempire09 (talk) 19:53, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, you are trying to apply the laws of Italy to an organization which operates under the laws of the United States, not under the laws of Italy. Furthermore, a perusal of the "Statuto della Regione Autonoma Trentino-Alto Adige-Sudtyrol" shows no requirement of any publication to use any particular toponym. It does require that the German-speaking population of this region be allowed to use their native tongue and facilitated in this by the local governments and private enterprises. I understand that you have very strong feelings about this matter. Please feel free to open a discussion about it in the proper venues. But do not singlehandedly attempt to change the entire Wikipedia to fit your particular view of how the world should work. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:59, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
