Your image uploads[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you are listing a personal site as the source for professional photographs, but I want to let you know that this is inappropriate. For example, if a photo is an official AS Roma profile photo, you have to list the AS Roma profile page as the source. Also, the {{promotional}} tag that you are using for your footballer photo is incorrect, as none of the pictures are released for promotional use and sites generally forbid users from using photos for non-private uses. Thanks. Ytny 08:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed that you left a message on my talk page earlier and I didn't respond, so I apologize for that. To answer your questions:
  • The photographs from the personal site isn't allowed since the site is probably using the photographs without permission from the copyright owner, and Wikipedia policy doesn't allow that.
  • Photograph at [www.asromacalcio.it] aren't considered "promotional" because the photographs are used as part of the site's content, and not part of a press kit. They're only licensed for use on that asromacalcio.it only, and nowhere else. The "Condizioni di utilizzo" on the page is pretty clear about that, and you can only use the "promotional" tag on pictures that they specifically ask you to use freely.
If you want a picture of a football player, the only right ways to do it are actually taking a picture yourself or asking for permission. I know it's trouble, but a site as big as Wikipedia should not be using other people's pictures without permission, and in my opinion, an article on a footballer is perfectly fine without a picture. It's not like you're talking about a work of art that really needs a picture.
But you can try asking User talk:Soccer-europe.com, who has let Wikipedia use photographs of footballers in the past. Ytny 15:20, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Possible task force[edit]

Heh. Actually, Italian military history (the Italian Wars, to be more precise) is one of my pet projects; I would definitely be for starting something like this, provided that enough editors can be found. Around five or so would probably be enough to get us started. The one point that I think might merit further discussion before a task force is created, though, is what portion of Roman military history would qualify as "Italian", as there are a substantial number of articles in play there; this might be a point worth discussing on the main project page before creating a task force, to avoid the sort of messy after-the-fact scope issues that have been plaguing the German one. Italian military stuff[edit]

Battle of Langside[edit]

I note you have put a 'start' class assessment on the work I did on the Battle of Langside. I never pay any attention to these labels, which I find haphazard and hopelessly arbitrary; and I care not for your personal opinion on this or any other matter. However, I will say-for your information-that this article contains all of the relevant information on the battle; so it is likely to remain 'start' for ever and a day. Cretan War Discrepencies[edit]

i noticed discrepencies on the cretan war articles, and didnt know where to put them so i put them here. maybe u can consult with Dott Piergiorgio (listed #1 in the italian military history task force) and Smoth 007 (listed #5), to look into these. first, the external link to Battle of Candia in the "Siege of Candia" article doesnt work. second, the link to War fo Candia lists different figures for the types/amounts of ships participating in the Battle of the Darndanelles (i posted this comment in that articles discussion tab). third, the duration of the Seige of Candia differs in the article and in the link to War for Candia. perhaps all 3 of yall can look into these items. i hope i was clear enough, lemme know. 4.230.174.215 19:35, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, (assuming you look back here), I could definitely add some stuff to these articles, but it will have to be put on hold for a long time besides minor stuff, I'm currently working on the article for Military history of Italy, which really sucks up all of my time right now. I personally would trust the article's numbers over that of the VENIVA site, given that the VENIVA site has the years wrong according to A History of Venice by John Julius Norwich, which I definitely trust above a website. I can look into the fleet numbers thing, but the ship numbers are sourced by a book, which again I would likely trust over a website. Thank you, you came to the right place, I could possibly work on this a little over the next few days. -KingPenguin 00:52, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alvarez.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Chivu.jpeg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chivu.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
