reverted edits

Hi Katie, thanks for your attention to my edits on the following articles: Open Data, Labor Day, Mother's Day, Cover Letter & Alcoholic Beverage. Can you please explain what was the reason why did you revert these edits? I'm quite new on Wikipedia and would like to improve in editing, so I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you, Ilya --Norma.jean (talk) 21:49, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

@Norma.jean: We have a saying here called WP:BRD. You boldly added the videos. I reverted some of them because I do not feel they are appropriate or necessary for the articles, nor have they been vetted by anyone. Now it's time to discuss your additions on the talk pages of the articles in question.
The article about Mother's Day doesn't need a video explaining it, and Wikipedia is not a how-to guide to writing cover letters. Making videos like you're doing is an end run around the collaborative editing process, because you and you alone have control of that content and it's not open for editing by anyone else. I'm wary of any user who begins to add content in bulk that's made by a company, non-profit or for-profit. It can be seen as spam. In addition, Moxy has raised questions about these videos at both WP:ANI and at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#Simpleshow foundation. Please engage in discussion on the article talk pages and at the NPOV noticeboard. Thanks. Katietalk 23:43, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Hello KK. I hope that you are well. I thought I would post this link Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Simpleshow foundation to the ANI thread for everyone's convenience. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 01:59, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Marnette! :-) Katietalk 02:30, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
You are welcome. "Spamalicious" mmmmmmm. My grocery store had bacon flavored spam a few months ago. I know it isn't good for me but I figured that even if every artery I had went rock solid there would still be a smile on my face :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 03:16, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
Bacon anything is awesome. Bacon is the fifth food group. It's like 110º here and I want bacon ice cream. Do they make bacon-flavored Gatorade?  :-) Katietalk 03:22, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
That is tooooo hot. As a fellow knitter you will appreciate this line that I use when it is too warm - "I have to put the needles away until it is dark because the friction between them and the yarn makes the room temp intolerable" :-) MarnetteD|Talk 03:28, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Holy crap! Now I'm going to be salivating in my sleep! *swoon* Now if I just had some Kevin Bacon, I'd be all set. :-D Katietalk 03:46, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

You are a menace. That might be the best thing I've ever seen. Now I have to clean up the soda I just spit all over my monitor. Katietalk 04:11, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
And I never put the needles away. Working on this in this. I LOVE this yarn - second garment I've made with it. It's yarnalicious. :-D Katietalk 03:51, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
OMG that pillow case is the bees knees!! What a nice sweater and yarn KK. I'm between projects at the moment. This is the last one I made - it was for a friends birthday and she adores it. One interesting thing about the pattern is that it has a different center cable pattern for the back but I couldn't find a pic of that. Happy knitting!! MarnetteD|Talk 05:05, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Washington / Office Depot persistent sock

Hi, you closed my request at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection/Rolling_archive#07_July_2016 with the comment that the socks were blocked. Well this person is pretty persistent and I was hoping that page protection would deter them from coming back, which has already happened at least once since the request. Another editor also asked for a block on Office Depot. If you look at Template:Whatcom County, Washington you'll see how bad this is. The vandalism is a daily occurrence, and the guy just keeps creating new socks. The SPI is making zero visible headway, and I think he's a persistent sockmaster also known as RDLX15 and Brightify. Check out Special:Contributions/Banclark70. Any ideas on how to address this? - Brianhe (talk) 12:04, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

@Brianhe: I'm aware of Vodkapoise, and sure, I'll lock them. Any sleepers could quickly get autoconfirmed if they're not blocked, though, and leaving the targets unlocked gives them rope while alerting us to their presence. I know it's a PITA. You should request CheckUser on the SPI for a sleeper check. He might be using a webhost or proxy they need to block. Katietalk 17:47, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
I locked Whatcom County and Office Depot for now. The others haven't been edited in a couple of days so let's leave them open. Katietalk 17:58, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

KrakatoeKaty

I see you've met your twin, as did I a little while ago this year. In fact Chesnaught666 (I was Chesnaught555 previously) was found to be an EU Referendum sock. Do you suppose this could be the case here? There were several impersonators of Oshwah too during this time - may be worth running a CU. May I ask for your thoughts? Regards --PatientZero talk 15:42, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) There have recently been quite a few impersonation socks from BuickCenturyDriver as well: see BathNaught for an example. BethNaught (talk) 16:06, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
I'd forgotten about that one BethNaught - thanks for commenting. :-) Do you think it would be profitable to ask for CheckUser to be performed on the account? --PatientZero talk 16:18, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I do. I haven't had an impersonator for a while but I think I had some interaction a few weeks back with one of those socks. Katietalk 16:37, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Apologies for the late response. I will file an SPI. Regards --PatientZero talk 16:14, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
As I just said to BN on their talk page a separate admin has concluded that an SPI is unnecessary and has deleted the page. --PatientZero talk 18:30, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

LongDistance05/NewLongDistance06 and GoOKC

The scope of my contributions to Wikipedia has been focused on the pages of track and field athletes, that being said my familiarity with those pages has lead me to something that I wish to bring to an administrators attention. For some time I noticed problems, such as copyright infringement, close paraphrasing of external sources, adding events that had not been held yet to athletes profiles, using Wikipedia as a directory of sorts of past and upcoming events, adding complete race results of all entrants to a single individuals profile as well as many more issues with the edits of user:LongDistance06. Many Wikipedia contributors including myself spent a great deal of time making corrections to the users contributions. On 13 November 2015 a block was placed on the user:LongDistance06. He last made a contribution under the username: LongDistance06 in December 2015, shortly after being blocked User:NewLongdistance06 was created and was used to edit the same track and field athletes pages that had been edited by LongDistance06 and in the same manner and style that was done under user:LongDistance06. In January of 2016 NewLongDistnace06 was blocked for being a sock puppet by a different administrator. After NewLongDistance06 was blocked the sorts of edits made by LongDistance06/NewLongdistnace06 thankfully disappeared from the pages of track and field athletes. In May 2016 I noticed edits on the pages of several track and field athletes that were of the same manner and style of the edits of LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 coming under from user:GoOKC (User talk:GoOKC). Recently GoOKC has been very active on the pages of the very same track and field athletes that were edited by LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 and making the same errors as he did before under what I believe was his previous usernames, doing things such as adding categories to athlete’s profiles marking them as Olympians when they have yet to be on their respective country’s Olympic teams, something the user has already been warned about another user. In an attempt to make things a little more clear for you I have tried to piece together some of the history of what I believe is the same user using multiple accounts.

On 20 July 2015 LongDistance06 edited its user page possibly identifying itself as Anthony Rotich along with information about his track and field career when the user edited its user page to look like a wikipedia page for Anthony Rotich. Later that same day LongDistance06 blanked its user page and created a Wikipedia page for Anthony Rotich. Interestingly, I also noticed that the last page to be edited by LongDistnace06 (other than its talk page) before it was blocked was the page of Anthony Rotich. A short time after the username GoOKC was registered the user contributed to the page for Anthoney Rotich along with many of the same pages of track and field athletes that were edited under the two usernames: LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06. The common thread of Anthony Rotich among all three usernames and the editing of the same set of athletes pages in the same manner was one of the things that got my attention.

If you look at the current page for Anthony Rotich you will see a table with race results that LongDistance06 created. The peculiar layout of the table was a hallmark of LongDistnace06/NewLongdistance06 and is now being used by GoOKC. No other Wikipedia contributor uses tables like this to show results for track and field athletes. The community of editors who contribute to track and field athlete pages have been working hard removing/editing these tables as well as many of the other contributions made by LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 and now GoOKC so that the pages edited match the layout of other athletes pages. Similar tables have been added to many track and field athletes pages by this user, for examples that have yet to be edited please see the pages for track athletes Cory McGee and Emily Infeld, which interestingly enough have both been recently edited by user:GoOKC. The only users to have ever added tables such as these are LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 and GoOKC. Something I think creates suspicion that LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 and GoOKC are likely the same person. From the first day user:GoOKC was created the scope and type of its edits made have been exactly the same as those of LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06.

After a close analysis of the pages edited, the style and manner of editing, contribution history and the dates of contributions it seems very likely that LongDistance06/NewLongDistance06 and GoOKC are the same person who could possibly be Anthony Rotich as was indicated the user page of LongDistance06. The first time he created a new username it was caught quickly by an administrator as the name was very similar, this time however the name is quite different but the edits and the errors being committed are exactly that same and hopefully you can do something about this. Forgive me for the length of this message, I have never done anything like this before and wanted to make sure I was giving you as much info as I could. I actually feed badly in a way for bringing anyone’s attention to this as I don't want the user to feel that I am attacking them, it is simply that I believe the user is committing errors and disrupting the layout and content of many athletes pages that take significant time to fix, time that could be put to better use and also I believe the person is using a new user name to circumvent Wikipedia policy. I could be wrong but the edits I believe speak for themselves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.76.87.100 (talk) 23:40, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

xHamster Semi-Protection Request

I was the one who requested indefinite Semi-Protection for xHamster. You stated that there was not enough vandalism recently to merit it. I must have not made it clear in the request: there has been recent vandalism and, more importantly, it has been going on since 2014 (and hence why I asked for indefinite). For example, this edit [3] on June 25th removed some content. This [4] , this [5], this [6], this [7], and this [8] all happened in June where someone kept changing the company's headquarters to Houston Texas (even though its clearly documented that they're based in Cyprus). Would this be enough to merit semi-protection? Please let me know. CerealKillerYum (talk) 03:47, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

@CerealKillerYum: Sorry, but no. There hasn't been an IP edit to the article since June 25, more than two weeks ago. That's not recent disruption. It's not even enough to justify pending changes. Even if there was enough recent disruption, we do not jump to indefinite protection unless there are really egregious circumstances. Shorter periods of protection must have been tried and must have failed to stop the disruption. Please see the protection policy for more information. If I can answer more questions, just ask. :-) Katietalk 08:44, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
OK, I'll come back when vandalism has gotten to that point. CerealKillerYum (talk) 09:48, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Yet another RevDel Request

Hello again atie, can you have a look here: [9] and perform a RevDel on these edits that have multiple BLP violations and deregatory content? RickinBaltimore (talk) 16:56, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

EFR?! I can do that?! Yay! Thank you!

The things one learns in the course of swatting away Uzoma-ishness! Young boy platypeditors plow through this stuff and I hold back until I'm told it's okay. I've read your userpage; all I'll say here is that I have multiple late female progenitors who were advanced-practice R.N.s, and in my professional practice those are my favorite clients, and in no event would I have had the vocabulary to blunder into this sustaining professional sub-sub-specialty if not for having been bestowed, from pre-kindergarten-ages forward, with nursing dictionaries/textbooks/references by now-deceased beloved ancestresses who would have been the best Wikipediestresses ever. I can't handle thuh mathz to work as a primary health-care provider, but I can translate your languages into English and have thus made my professional way in the world. KK, you're so cool. I won't belabor the point further but it is such an unexpected privilege to get to know you. - Julietdeltalima (talk) 21:17, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

@Julietdeltalima: Gosh, that's so nice of you to say! I'm not a nurse practitioner but I've passed the critical-care and occupational health boards, so I have an alphabet behind my name. :-) I love getting to know everybody – I've been fortunate to meet several Wikipedians in real life (Gamaliel, Rosiestep, Orangemike, and others – don't want to ping them here) and that helps to remind me that there are human beings behind the usernames. I wish everybody would remember that. It's lovely to get to know you too. :-) Katietalk 00:41, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

KrakatoaKatie

KrakatoaKatie! Disney Channel is for teens. This sitcoms aren't for any child at all the target is only for teens, young people and families. It's mainly live action. I accept your opiniom, but a channel who broadcast only two cartoons (Mickey Mouse who are more transitional shorts and Phinea and Ferb aimed for older kids) isn't a elementary school channel at all (don't include the Disney Junior Block who is practicaly separately any other block exist on not kid aimed channel) and I agree that in the past Disney Channel had programmes ((mainly cartoons) aimed for kids. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2F0E:70A3:BF00:16CC:20FF:FE12:405C (talk) 20:11, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Stadiums

Dear Katie, I understand your concerns, but I was given permission to use these references by 3 moderators, please check my older messages. I am checking and updating stadium information, I was told to use references. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll answer as good as possible to make things clear. Kind regards, farmnation

@Farmnation: This is already under discussion at the reliable sources noticeboard, and you have not commented there. That is the appropriate place for talking about this site.
I did look at your talk page before I gave you that warning, which was for failing to discuss your rapid changes – dozens in the the space of an hour – with other editors. Admins like me (and there was nothing from any other administrator on your talk page on this subject) do not "give permission" to use any source – community consensus does. Nothing on your talk page remotely came close to any form of 'permission'. Again, get consensus at RSN before you add that source into another article, or I'll block you myself for disruption. Katietalk 19:18, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Stadiums 2

No problem KrakatoaKatie, I will stop using references. But I was given permission by admins early 2016, please check my older messages. People were complaining I changed information without adding references. World of Stadiums might not be 100% reliable, but no site is. Soccerway is named as reliable, but their information is more outdated, as you can see when you check random stadium facts. I also use Soccerway and StadiumDB as references, are those two allowed to use? StadiumDB has a small amount of information online though, compared to World of Stadiums.

@Farmnation: No, you weren't using references at all, which is what those older messages are about. You only started adding this site recently. We have consensus here about what is and isn't a reliable source on Wikipedia. Again, the discussion is at RSN. Katietalk 19:35, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Stadiums 3

Hm okay, can you please tell me why Soccerway is reliable and StadiumDB and World of Stadiums are not? I don't understand the criteria I guess... @Farmnation: Third time – go to WP:RSN and participate in that discussion. Those editors deal with this all the time. Katietalk 20:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Cross-wiki harrasment

I'm not one to usually complain about vandals targeted me, however I'm wondering what can be done when it comes to cross-wiki harassment. The "Tikeem Cumberbatch" vandal has seem to taken a liking to the Simple English Wikipedia and has created a few vandalism article pinging me, and doing his usual thing. What, if anything, is done in these situations? I've got a pretty thick skin, and normally don't care, but I don't like seeing this start to migrate to other parts of the project. I would really appreciate it if you could revert the current page to the previous version that includes the changes that I made as it's Jerry's wish to have it that way, or if you could unblock me so that I can make those changes again. First, you're not blocked. Second, please see WP:AUTOPROB. If there are factual errors, follow the instructions there. Otherwise, the content you're trying to remove is well-referenced, and the subject of the article does not own it. You can use the talk page for discussion, but repeated attempts to remove referenced content is disruptive and we will use the tools we have to stop it. Katietalk 17:03, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Re: ANI

Also @Callmemirela: I'm not interested in prolonging the discussion, but I take exception to the claim that I "came running" to ANI simply because I didn't "get my way". I was willing to discuss the issue with Contaldo, but he refused to have the discussion before restoring his edits. Last I checked that's not how WP:BRD and WP:CON are supposed to work. The comments Contaldo had left on the talk page prior to the most recent one (which he used as an excuse to restore the edits without waiting for consensus to develop) weren't even related to the issue at hand. Feel free to not reply to this; I just wanted to make sure my side of this was understood fairly, and hopefully prevent the admins from viewing me as a petulant whiner who won't engage in discussion when that's not the case. Range block

Hiya Katie. I noticed the thing about random date insertion and nationality changes on ANI[10] and saw there were quite a few other IPs in the 124.106.246.0/23 range doing the same thing recently. I've blocked the range for a couple of weeks. (I'm not sure it's only the /23 range, but it's hardly worth checking out a bigger one — too big to block.) Bishonen | talk 03:05, 20 July 2016 (UTC).

question about edit-a-thon

Hi Katie. Thanks for helping to allow me to create accounts on Friday. I have another question you might be able to help me on. Will edits get blocked if too many come from the same IP address? How do I go about lifting that cap? Thanks! Sanne —Preceding undated comment added 04:42, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

@Sanne.cottaar: Not if they're registered accounts. I'm not sure if there's a throttle limit on edits from anon IPs, but I'm betting there is. There is a page move throttle limit unless you have the page mover user right, but you won't have to worry about that. Katietalk 11:38, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
@KrakatoaKatie:Thanks, finished with the edit-a-thon, and my account-creation-flag can be removed! Thanks, Sanne
