License tagging for Image:Downes.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Downes.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:04, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

This seems to be up again. I'd recommend uploading them under the GFDL. If you don't think you are in a postion to do this I can speak to Oll Lewis and get the thumbs up from him. (Emperor 15:35, 19 November 2006 (UTC))[reply]

re: Jonathan Downes photo[edit]

Thank you for using Wikipedia. However, you have previously indicated that only Wikipedia has permission to use this image (with no other terms specified). Unfortunately, we cannot accept these sort of images. One of the primary goals here is to have a free, copyleft encyclopedia that anybody can distribute, reproduce, transmit, use commercially, or use for any other purpose. Thus, new images need to be compatible with a copyleft license, which allows anyone to use it.

Instead, you should ask the copyright holder of that image if he or she would be willing to make the file available under a free license such as the GNU Free Documentation License, Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license, or even public domain.

If that fails, the other option is to claim that you are using the image under the fair use exceptions, but you must follow the strict policies on using fair use images. Otherwise, you cannot use it.

Hope this helps a bit. For more information, please read our image policy and how to properly tag the copyright situation of images. You can also post questions on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 15:37, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam in CFZ Press[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on CFZ Press, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because CFZ Press is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting CFZ Press, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 02:30, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Centre for Fortean Zoology, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Schlegel (talk) 02:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original Research & Autobiography[edit]

Lazarusx, you appear to be Jonathan Downes, in which case your edits to the page Jonathan Downes should be approached differently. First, Wikipedia discourages autobiographical edits (see Wikipedia:Autobiography). If you are a person who warrants a Wikipedia article, other people will take the initiative and write about you. If you feel you must write about yourself, it is doubly important that you cite reliable, third-party sources to your contributions. Your edits to this page are either not cited, cite your own publications, or appear to be original works, which are prohibited by Wikipedia policy (see Wikipedia:No_original_research). Schlegel (talk) 04:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, Jonathan. I look forward to seeing the improvements you talked about. Schlegel (talk) 14:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
