Conflict of interest policy

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Leevan27. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 17:21, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to date

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. [edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have an undisclosed financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future. MER-C 14:49, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand that I was blocked due to a conflict of interest, and not disclosing that I am an employee of Fit Small Business. I have read through the conflict of interest policy and now understand that I should have disclosed my employment with Fit Small Business as a conflict of interest while submitting the page. From here on out, I pledge to follow all Wikipedia rules and guidelines. As someone who was creating a page on Wikipedia for the first time, I mistakenly did not realize that my page would be immediately published on the website without it being peer-reviewed. In any case, I realize my grave mistake and my responsibility to disclose any type of COI, and will not be a repeat offender. Moving forward, I plan to resubmit the page as an article for creation and disclose my employment with Fit Small Business. I will make sure that the article is peer-reviewed, and isn't immediately published on the website. I plan to continue contributing to the Wikipedia community to help make it more informative, understandable and helpful for all readers. Leevan27 (talk) 20:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 07:39, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

In looking at the draft, I think it is unlikely any draft about your company would be accepted. The draft merely tells about the company and is sourced to nothing but press release type articles, routine business announcements or information, and other primary sources. Wikipedia articles must do more, they must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself. Are there any topics you want to write about other than your company? 331dot (talk) 09:09, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback, in that case I will not attempt to submit this article for creation. Unless potentially at some point in the future the company meets the notability requirements as outlined by Wikipedia. I would still like to contribute to the Wikipedia community in other ways. I like Chinese teas, games and social media platforms so I’d like to continue to make edits and improve articles around those and other topics unrelated to my company. Leevan27 (talk) 14:43, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the unblock request formatting from your comment, as only one open request is needed; subsequent comments should be standard, unformatted comments. MER-C, do you have any concerns? 331dot (talk) 15:54, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Many of the earlier edits are also (reference) spam. MER-C 17:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Leevan27, is there any reason that you want to edit about products and or services? Do you have any comment about your earlier edits? 331dot (talk) 20:02, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am bit confused at what MER-C means by reference spam. From my research, it seems that spam is adding your own website as a citation for articles, which I have not done. Additionally, all my edits have not referenced or promoted my business in any way. Could I have some clarification on my edits that were labeled as reference spam? For additional context, I work for a website that talks about topics related to small businesses, and I'm surrounded by that information every day. For those topics that I feel passionately about (and have knowledge around due to my day to day contact with that information), I would like to share that knowledge by contributing to the Wikipedia community. Leevan27 (talk) 14:35, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You don't have to be spamming your own website to be spamming. If you are posting links to just get that information out there, that's spamming as well. Your website is certainly the proper place for that, not Wikipedia. Do you want to edit about any topics unrelated to small businesses? 331dot (talk) 14:39, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that - my intention when posting those edits was genuinely trying to bring more value to an article. For example, the edit I made in the Small Business wikipedia article was just rewording a paragraph so that it was easier to read. Or when I added links to relevant wikipedia pages (not any outside source) to the asset-based lending wikipedia article. That being said, if editing on small business related topics poses a conflict of interest then I can avoid posting on those topics and pursue my other interests such as different types of teas and video games. Request reason:

I have already submitted an unblock request and was chatting with an administrator but they never responded to my last message. I understand that I was blocked due to a conflict of interest and I now know that being an employee of Fit Small Business is definitely a conflict of interest when creating a Wikipedia page. From now on I only want to share my knowledge with the Wikipedia community and make edits that will make the pages more valuable and accurate for the users reading them. If posting about small business topics is considered spam then I will stop doing that and only edit on other topics that I am passionate about. Leevan27 (talk) 20:07, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only; use is unresponsive. Yamla (talk) 11:20, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
