Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Wide Awake Festival. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Wide Awake Festival, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:41, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

Please could you unblock this account? I have explained to other users/admin as you can see below and had my username changed as you suggested. Thank you! LibreTW (talk) 17:45, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello? this has been one of the worst experiences I had online. The decision you made it's absolutely unfair. If you have the decency to respond, I spent time on the article and due to you blocking my page I didn't even have the chance to change it before it got removed. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

If this is true, why do you claim you personally own the copyright to their logo? File:WideAwake.png --Yamla (talk) 15:11, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't answered the question I asked. --Yamla (talk) 15:15, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I'm not saying this is necessarily the reason why you remain blocked, but just to explain that we still need to get to the bottom of your identity.
  1. You say you are not affiliated with the event in question. If that is the case, then why did you upload their logo as your own work?
  2. Or if it indeed is your own work, then you clearly are affiliated with the event, and should disclose this (see the message I posted earlier on this page, for instructions on how to).
I'm not accusing you of either issue, only that one or the other of them is likely to be a problem. Please clarify, and action accordingly.

@Yamla: this editor appears to have tried to recreate Draft:Wide Awake Festival under a different account. Best, GPL93 (talk) 13:34, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This looks to be a case of WP:MEAT, but yes. Note that this account is only soft-blocked so they are allowed to create a new account. What they aren't allowed to do is to continue spamming the same article, inappropriately. I'll go block that account. --Yamla (talk) 15:27, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your reason here I took the logo from the event website it's not my work I am not sure where I said that, but it was me uploading it yes}} LibreTW (talk) 16:06, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When you uploaded the file, you claimed authorship and copyright ownership of it; stated that it was your own work; and released it into the public domain under a Creative Commons licence (which, I expect, the actual copyright owner won't be too pleased about). I will go and request that the file be deleted. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:18, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

{unblock|reason=Your reason here I am sorry, I think I read it like it was me uploading it. What is the best way to go and add the logo without saying it's mine?} LibreTW (talk) 16:21, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say just forget about the logo for now. If and when the article is published, there may then be a way of adding the logo under a fair-use policy, but that doesn't apply to drafts (I think — I'm certainly no expert in this!).
BTW, please don't add a new block review request with every comment. You can just reply au naturel, so to speak. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:26, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am so sorry it's my first time and I am clearly not getting how the system works. I have left you a comment on how to delete the logo but will google how to as well. Thanks for your help on this. Hopefully the page will be published, if you have any other tips on why it was declined but I did look at a lot of other similar events I don't see discrepancies on the way it's written. LibreTW (talk) 17:02, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've already requested that the file be deleted from the Commons, which is where it's now stored. I don't think you need to do anything else (unless of course you want to go and confirm that you're happy with this) so you can probably leave it for now. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:04, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - I think I did say what you said is correct to delete it. Do you know how long I need to wait now to be able to go back to the article? LibreTW (talk) 17:09, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Wide Awake Festival, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Request reason:

Your reason here can someone unblock my account so I can edit the page? It took me 3 hours and I do not think the page I created is any different than other event pages. I had a look at festivals I have been to and the references I chose are in fact similar (if not coming from the same newspaper) of for example another event called All Points East - I have been responsive and have explained, can I have the chance to edit the page? If someone could actual point me to what is wrong rather than send me tutorial. Unless this tags are not created by human so they don't compare other similar pages before asking to remove a page.

Decline reason:

Because of your abuse of multiple accounts to continue violating WP:PROMO with regard to Wide Awake Festival, I have increased the block on this account. Any admin is free to lift your block if convinced you'll refrain from abusing multiple accounts and if convinced you'll avoid writing about the Wide Awake Festival.
