Manging a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Equals.World. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 06:36, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Equals.World/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi DoubleGrazing. We are new to Wikipedia and thank you for your suggestions. We see many companies in our industry have a wikipage (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Food_For_Dogs); we would like to adjust it to the necessary standard of wikipedia, so please allow us to continue editing the text that we already spent a lot of time on it. Thank you. Equals.World (talk) 08:32, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
First of all, you need to make the necessary disclosures about your conflict of interest (COI) and likely paid editing; see the message posted here earlier, with advice on how to do this.
Secondly, you need to change your username, because it is promotional and represents a company or other organisation. See WP:U.
After that, if you wish to attempt writing an article on your own company, you must do it in strictly neutral and factual manner, without a hint of promotional tone or positive spin. In reality, this is very difficult for someone to do whose interest is in promoting a subject, which is the reason why this seldom succeeds.
You must also ensure that everything you say is supported by reliable sources. Also, the subject must be notable (WP:N) according to the general notability guideline WP:GNG, which requires significant coverage in multiple independent and reliable secondary sources. Your earlier draft did not cite such sources.
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Noted with thanks and will proceed accordingly. If there is a way to see our text to be able to copy it and to be able to work with it later? We cannot recover it for some reason. Equals.World (talk) 08:58, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You cannot recover it, because it has been deleted. I also cannot recover it for you, as I'm not an admin. You can ask the admin who deleted it, but you'll need to have a reason; if you're just going to resubmit the same content, that's unlikely to be accepted. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:48, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, we contacted Liz and waiting reply. Equals.World (talk) 10:04, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You have now been blocked on account of your username which, as I mentioned earlier, does not comply with policy. I also note that you haven't made the necessary COI and paid editing disclosures. I told you to start with these, because they are a hard requirement if you wish to continue editing. Change your username now, and make the disclosure, before doing any further editing. Thank you, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:51, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 08:30, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Equals.World, you are invited to the Teahouse, a forum on Wikipedia for new editors to ask questions about editing Wikipedia, and get support from peers and experienced editors. Please join us! Liz Read! Talk! 08:30, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Alexf(talk) 10:48, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rename queued up, so I have lifted the block. As per WP:COI, you are required to declare your conflict of interest prior to editing further. We also expect you to stop promoting EQUALS Ltd., as you have inappropriately been doing so far. If you fail to follow these instructions, expect to be immediately reblocked. If you wish to contribute constructively to subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest, your contributions will be most appreciated. Yamla (talk) 11:34, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Noted with thanks Yamla. I'm new to Wiki and never have a thought of breaking the rules. Thank you for your support and guidance. I just want to make unbiased article about Equals Ltd (not a promotion) so people can read about it. I guess the article that was deleted today is gone? Its been quite some time writing it and hoped we could recover it to adjust properly to wiki standards. Thank you. Lilyhongkong (talk) 11:52, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your contribution was a very long way from unbiased. You should not write about EQUALS Ltd. given your conflict of interest. Instead, you should write about subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest. --Yamla (talk) 11:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your suggestions Yamla. I'd like to try one more time, could you please advise do I need to include\exclude anything else in\from the article to avoid being blocked? Hope for the constructive feedback. Thanks. Lilyhongkong (talk) 11:59, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I very strongly advise you don't. You should use your own website and social media to promote your company. You will be blocked if you continue violating WP:PROMO. I suppose that means you should read and very thoroughly understand that policy if you decide to ignore the advice you've been given by multiple people. --Yamla (talk) 12:04, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
