Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Help me! My photos have been taken down.

[edit]

Please help me with... On the Rowner page I had several photos up that I either personally took or another member of my family took on my camera / phone. I do not see why they have been removed. Actually thinking about it, the only one that wasn't taken by me was taken by my girlfriend Lisa, the other half of the name Lisandrew. Lisa / Andrew. We are trying to improve the image of our village and those photos would have helped immensely. The shop photo you have put back up is an outdated image of the area. Please reinstate my photos. Please respond in an easy to understand way as I have little experience with this. Added to this I now notice my writing about the area has gone too. We have a lot of things going for us in this village. Why are we not being able to put that up, Lisandrew Lisandrew (talk) 07:42, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you saying you have a shared account? Account sharing is not allowed.
Copyright is complicated. You probably need to address the issues raised on the Commons pages for the relevant photos. Sending the photos to Facebook, then downloading them from there is likely to cloud the clear ownership they would like to see at Commons.
As for the text removal, that is something to take up at Talk:Rowner. It seems you were adding material without providing citations to published sources. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:05, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know what I thought this editing would be a bit of fun, but it's ridiculous. No I do not have a shared account. I named the account after my girlfriend and myself. One of the photos my have been taken by her but on my phone / camera. We share all our photos on social media. Ever since I have started doing this, it's been you can't do this, you can't do that, photos and text that is my own work being taken down. I might carry on but it will by no means be any kind of priority. Lisandrew (talk) 16:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
An account named for two people, it raises the question that I asked. If Lisa does not use the account, you're most likely fine, but someone may raise the issue again because account names that suggest shared use are not allowed.
I'll repeat: copyright is complicated. If Lisa took the photo, you, Andrew, cannot upload it as 'own work'. It does not matter who owns the camera or phone, but a work-for-hire contract could change things so that the copyright is assigned to someone other than the person who took the photo. An informal personal agreement between the two of you will not suffice. And, if I may add, you have some great photos!
I'm sorry there are so many rules and restrictions, but Wikipedia has been around long enough now to have accumulated lots of polices, every single one of them meant to address some problem that has come up in the past. Fortunately, there are plenty of places on the web where you can exercise your desire to contribute information to the world without enduring the strictures of English Wikipedia. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 16:07, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the words you wrote on the Rowner page are now in Draft:Alver Valley Country Park. Marksyuk (talk) 22:17, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Self promotion

[edit]

It seems that many of your edits appear to be attempts at self promotion for your own writings and work. It appears that you are Andrew Hay and you are inserting references to your work throughout Wikipedia, whether it is notable or not. Please read WP:COI and Wp:PROMOTION, you may not use Wikipedia to promote yourself. Canterbury Tail talk 02:07, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As mental health problems mean I don't fully understand what I'm doing as regards how to reference certain of my works or my edits, and no one will just explain in a kindly and helpful manner, I intend to take leave of editing Wikipedia, maybe permanently. I have found the whole experience unnecessarily rather stressful due to what I consider the bullying ways of those who rather than helping put information in the public domain, appear to be suppressing it. Please do not bother replying. I am logging out momentarily. Lisandrew (talk) 11:08, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
