I apologise for reverting your edits that were correct. I am aware of vandalism and I have familiarised myself with the definitions and the guidlines regarding the reporting thereof. I had no intention of singling you out for attack. I wish to offer in my defense that there were other changes made from the IP address that were vandalism.

May I suggest that you register as a user so that you are not linked to other individuals who use the IP address for vandalism.

Once more, I apologise for my mistake, I have only good intentions.

I find it very upsetting that you considered me responsible for writing Captain Cook sucks cocks or whatever the graffiti said. I was merely pointing it out as I do not like to directly alter wiki pages myself as it is someone else's work and I could wrong about my observations.

I also feel my comment about 'discovery' being a contentious word to be a fair one and by removing my comment you intend to restrict my freedom of speech.

I acknowledge I was not logged in when I left the comment on the captain Cook talk page but my point still stands. If you remove any more of my comments from any pages or send me similar messages indicating I am a 'vandal' I will make a complaint to wikipedia properly.

Veblen goods

Hi, I noticed you moved Veblen good to Veblen goods, all the other good articles are singular, and my econ dictionary is singular as well. So either the move needs to be reversed or the other articles need to be moved as well. thanks Martin 08:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Re vandalism

Sorry if I did not follow the proper protocol for warning messages. Does this protocol apply to all cases? In re user user:213.164.102.137, he or she put the f-word into the article Valdas Adamkus and left it there. Sometimes it's hard to wait for a bot to come along and fix it. And it can be hard to see the polite first warning message in cases like that. However, I will abide by the system if you say that's the standard even in those instances. Help me

How does one remove an article from a category. The term "Collective good (Social good)" is listed at the bottom of articles that belong to the category "goods" (such as durable goods). However, Collective good belongs to the categories Stubs, Community building, Core issues in ethics, Value and Philosophical terminology. LittleOldMe 13:43, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

You can remove categories by removing the line that says [[Category:Goods]]. However, the article you linked to is not in the category Goods. Can you show me where you see this? -- Merope ^Talk 13:56, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you reverted my edit, calling it vandalism. N.W.A does indeed have a song called "8 Ball" and it does indeed talk about this beverage. It's a good song you should check it out. Hi Jimmy, I did revert your edit, but nowhere did I call it vandalism. I saw that DJ Quik's 8 Ball was already listed and assumed that the NWA version was a cover, and thus a duplication. I can understand that some people would consider the edits of the user in question to be "good faith", but in my opinion they were unnecessary and just plain vandalism. There have been repeated attempts by (apparently) various users (including the IP address who "thanked" you, above) to revise the wiki policy manual (always in the same poorly-written phraseology) to "allow" race and sexual orientation to be cited in the opening paragraph. User Cliesthenes, along with some newly (and briefly) registered users, as well as several IP addresses (such as the anon signer at the top of this paragraph), had been identified by User Dcflyer as sockpuppets of each other, as per my comments above. Three-revert rule

I have been following discussions in regards to the César Chávez and Lance Bass edit wars, and it seems common practice to assert that anyone who makes three reverts has broken the three-revert rule.

However, the way I read it, three reverts are permitted without contravening the rule.

I ask because earlier in the day I reverted vandalism to the deafness article three times believing that I was permitted to do so.

Can you clarify please?

Hi, In the 3RR rule, three reverts or more (in 24 hours) are permitted in the case of obvious vandalism, but not for any form of edit warring (unless against clear vandalism). The Free Wholesale Directory & IDIM Business advertising, spam article

This article, The Free Wholesale Directory & IDIM, appears to be blatant business advertising/spamming. Obvious language aside, the wikpedia username of the main contributor also appears used in the html of the external links. Wondered if you could take action? Question

Just a quick question, when I am reverting vandalism and such - if the person has no talk page, what would the appropritate action to take (as to how to warn them)? Thanks In Advance, DuO 11:59, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

There is no hard and fast rule, but the guidelines encourage you to be nice. For IP addresses that vandalise I generally use the template {{subst:Welcomeip}} followed by a {{subst:test1}} or a {{subst:test1a}} warning message. In general, registered users do not tend to vandalise, but they often add biased material, which once removed, the {{subst:welcomenpov}} is ideal for. There is also one for unsuitable external links {{subst:Welcomespam}}.

There is quite a lot of information on the subject, so don't feel overwhelmed, start with the few that I have provided and as you become more comfortable you can expand your tool set.

re: Slow blocks

There are times of the day (like early morning in the US) when things tend to pile up because not that many admins are online. I don't usually work on AIV, but I just happened to notice that several items were lingering in there so I cleared it out. Speedy delete and "biting the newcomers"

I appreciate your message, though I am a little unclear as to the reason for it. Are you responding to something I recently tagged for deletion, or were you speaking in a more general sense? The reason for the message is that I had an edit conflict on an article that you had tagged for speedy deletion and I noticed that there was no message placed on the user's talk page. However, the tag you used ({{db-nonsense}}) unfortunately does not add the template message, which is something I never knew. The one I quoted is from the {{db-spam}} tag. I'm sorry if the original message appeared a bit preachy (I re-read it and got that sense from it) but it was never my intention. Perhaps it is because I am still finding my way around Wikipedia that I feel sympathy for the newcomers who are being encouraged to be bold on the one hand but are often unsympathetically brushed aside when they attempt to contribute.

Fear not, because I detected no "preachy tone" in the message. Which article was it that I tagged for speedy deletion? I am more than willing to admit that I make mistakes, and am certainly willing to reexamine any decision I have made if you feel I was in error. It is funny that you should leave this message, actually, because I was having a discussion (here: [[4]]) about this very dichotomy---the urge to delete articles that appear to be useless and nonsensical versus the equally valid desire not to offend and scare off new editors who may become useful contributors. Speedy

Hi. I've replied to your comment on my user page, but just to gain a bit of concensus - do you always put warnings on user pages? I tend not to do it with people whose sole aim (it appears) is to 1. Register, and 2. Create an article about themselves/their company. Sometimes I have pangs of "benefit of the doubt", but it is hard sometimes. All part of the learning process, I suppose. It was vandalism reverts for me last week, but since I got "pop-ups", it's taken the fun out of it! So I turned my hand to speedies. I noticed that you tagged the page Image:Shnafflehund pup.jpg for speedy deletion with the reason "This image is redundant because it was used on a nonsense article now deleted".
