Edit summaries

[edit]

Luka, thank you for using an edit summary in your revisions of Scottie Pippen. However, I don't think calling a highly-respected editor like Drmies a troll is called for. I've taken out the parts that I think are problematical, leaving in the parts which are pertinent. One sentence I removed, because it seemed pale in comparison to the other accolades, is his honor at the Bulls 20th anniversary. This (sourced) could go in the article, but I don't really think it belongs in the lead. I most cordially invite you to review WP:SOURCE and WP:NPA. All the best, 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 21:34, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pippen

[edit]

I don't even think you have the right episode. They are in "Into Fat Air". [1]

Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't call me a troll. Please realize that well-intentioned people can have different opinions about what is important. Zagalejo^^^ 00:22, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think Malone was totally serious with that list. It was just radio banter; he left Jordan off to mess around with Dan Patrick. Also, some of those stats are misleading. For example, Hakeem Olajuwon had recorded a higher FG% than .514 multiple times before Pippen got there. Jordan's FG% fluctuated over the years he played with Pippen. His rookie FG% was higher than it was in half the seasons he played with Pippen. And anyway, you can't prove that one specific player is the reason for another's FG%. An increase in FG% could be the result of different coaching strategies, better health, or just plain luck. Zagalejo^^^ 04:51, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It might depend on the quote, but I think most comments from his teammates should go in the player profile section. Some guidelines for references are here: Wikipedia:References#Film.2C_TV.2C_or_video_recordings. (Though not all of those would apply.)
You should assume that most of the photos you find on the internet are copyrighted to someone. Because photos are often reused without permission, it may not always be obvious who owns what, but a large number of the images can be traced back to Getty Images/NBA Entertainment. For example, here is the Pippen/Polynice draft photo: [2]. I wouldn't take chances with Getty Images. They have devices to track image usage throughout the internet, and have been known to threaten lawsuits.
Unfortunately, the options for images on Wikipedia articles are pretty limited. Some of the material at Flickr is posted under compatible licenses, but you have to look carefully. (Some Flickr users upload images that don't belong to them, and then lie about the licensing.) Many images from the US federal government are in the public domain, so occasionally, you can find something useful from them. (Eg, this Clark Kellogg photo). Otherwise, you can take photographs yourself, but that's easier said than done. Zagalejo^^^ 17:47, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, yeah, I had to delete those two photos. The one with Pippen and the trophy is a Tribune file photo. While their terms of service are a bit confusing, it does say, "You may not republish any portion of the Content on any Internet, Intranet or extranet site or incorporate the Content in any database, compilation, archive or cache." Zagalejo^^^ 18:04, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Everything at Wikimedia Commons is supposed to be freely usable. However, there is some stuff that shouldn't be there, so if something looks too good to be true, be careful what you do with it. Zagalejo^^^ 00:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop making uncivil comments in your edit summaries. Consider this a final warning before it is taken to WP:ANI. - Hoops gza (talk) 02:46, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit summaries are still unwelcoming and uncivil though not as blatant. You are also incorrect in stating that you have to be a registered user in order to edit Wikipedia. If you continue this trend, I will have to report you to the admins. - Hoops gza (talk) 02:20, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Scottie Pippen, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Steve Smith and Mike Dunleavy. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
