Persecution of Christians

Thanks for your message and sorry for the delay in replying. Having looked at the article, I think the way forward for it is to take out all the references to persecution being by "Muslims", "the Chinese" etc. and for the headings to refer to regions of the world rather than to peoples and faith groups. Then allegations about persecution of Christians in Israel can then go in alongside those about the casualties of the war in Lebanon and the allegations of discrimination in the Palestinian Authority, under a heading "Near East" (or perhaps "Levant" if people object that "Near East" is a product of colonial thinking). Allegations should be impeccably sourced and the source should state that Christians were targeted as Christians rather than as members of an ethnic group that follows Christianity. I've tried to stick to this standard in Forced conversion, at least in the recent allegations section. Hope this helps. I'll keep the article under watch. Itsmejudith 07:49, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Gregory redeux

A couple of suggestions before the article (to me) looks ready. The lead needs expanded, probably one short paragraph more. Let's see if we can't expand each of the last three subsections, maybe by just a sentence or two each. CHeck the links ... rather than linking to an outside source, see if we have it on wikisource (for example, I know that the whole catholic encyclopedia is there). Finally, we need to have someone outside read it over and proof it. How about we make a push to do the last minute housekeeping, and submit in one week? Pastordavid 14:46, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Location of Emory

Emory is located in the metropolitan area of Atlanta. Whether it's in suburban or urban Atlanta seems to be a subjective determination. It is referenced as being located in urban Atlanta by other encyclopedias, such as here and here (scroll down to Emory). In fact, the line, before you edited it, seemed to be taken almost verbatim from that encyclopedia page ("An important factor in the university's growth over the last two decades has been its location in urban Atlanta"). Furthermore, the CDC and the American Cancer Society, which shares the Clifton Corridor with Emory, are both claimed to be located in Atlanta on their wiki pages, and no special distinction is made that they are in "suburban" Atlanta as opposed to "urban" Atlanta. I do not intend to make this specific distinction for Emory on its wiki page (although, clearly, other encyclopedias do). I only intend to indicate that it is located in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, which it is. Emory is an Atlanta university. Please stop editing to the contrary. Thanks.

I was correcting the incorrect statement you added to the article. Emory is not located in "the city of Atlanta." This isn't a subjective statment; Emory's campus is located east of the city limits. I am perfectly happy using the term "metropolitan Atlanta". Please note that the term metropolitan area includes both urban and suburban environments. Some sources refer to Emory as urban; others, such as Emory Clinic, U.S. News and World Report and Emory's Office of Athletics, refer to it as suburban. Hi, I just wanted to let you know I was inspired by comments made by you and a few others at my RfA to contribute what I hope is useful article content. I talk about it here.

With regard to copyvios and communication, I explained at my RfA that if the copyvio is significant, I usually leave a warning note with links to relevant policies on the user's talk page (instead of in the edit summary). I have no way of knowing whether they're watching the article page where I removed the copyvio, but I know they'll get a message on their talk page if they ever log in again. I actually think communication is one of my strong points.

Semi-Arianism, etc.

I'm no theologian either, and this is not an area where I'm particularly expert.

It seems to me a good edit as a summary. The situation was actually a bit more complicated than that, but I don't know if all the details are suitable for a biographical article. To summarize only slightly less briefly -- and in a way that someone who knows the subject better could probably poke dozens of holes in -- the Cappadocians actually favored "homoiousios" at first, as they felt "homoousios" risked blurring the distinction between the persons and therefore susceptible to a Sabellian interpretation. But it appears they really meant the same thing by it as Athanasius, and it was mostly the work of Basil that defined "homousios" in a suitably nuanced way as to express what orthodox Nicenes were trying to say. For example, see [1], [2] (a pro-Arian site; section "The Final Battle). There was a spectrum of Arianism, from the moderate semi-Arians, some of whom were practically orthodox and who adopted "homoios" pretty much as a compromise, to the radicals that favored "heteroousios" (different essence) or "anomoios" (unlike).

Gregory was better known for his work against the Pneumatomachoi. But the Cappadocians were generally of one mind on these subjects and worked together to defend Nicene orthodoxy. Anti-Catholicism - Image: Sun cover of B16 with ref. to Hitler Youth

I noticed your edit removing the image of the Sun newspaper cover depicting Benedict XVI with a reference to the Hitler Youth. It seemed a good example of anti-Catholicism in the media, as it presented him in a false light. You indicted in the edit summary a concern that the image was doctored. I looked for it on the Sun's site and found the article but couldn't find the cover image. I did find the cover image on the Spiegel site (http://www.spiegel.de/international/0,1518,352550,00.html), in an article about the Sun's coverage, and it did not appear to me to be doctored. I was wondering why you thought it was doctored, because if it wasn't it seems appropriate for the article. I would appreciate your thoughts Mamalujo 23:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

The image I removed was from another newspaper, not the Sun -- that image is still in the article. I removed the one from the Italian newspaper since aneditor produced an image showing the cover of the Italian paper with an undoctored image of the Pope. Majoreditor 02:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

DeKalb County

Hmm, the guest used "Emory University is a private university located in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia."

I'm insistent on specifics, so I changed it to: "Emory University is a private university located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, east of and in the metropolitan area of the city of Atlanta."

The university IS in DeKalb County, and IS NOT in any city limits. The lead MUST state that. It is okay to state that it is in metropolitan Atlanta. WhisperToMe 03:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Gregory of Nazianzus

Just letting you know. I personally think this article probably does qualify for inclusion in the release version. The only reasons I haven't already approved it are my own fears that we might miss out on some more important articles, and the fact that right now I'm the only one approving religion articles at all. Yeah, I did only approve one of them, but I also nominated all the other nominees but this one and I can't nominate and approve an article all by myself. I hope to have a good idea of where everything stands by next week though. If you would want to be help in the review of articles, I would welcome it, but know that it can be placing yourself in a position of making judgements, which I'm personally not sure I'm very good at. Mother Teresa criticism section

Greetings, Major. What do you think of the new criticisms section in the Mother Teresa article? My initial (admitedly knee-jerk) reaction was disapproval, for all the reasons I've given over the past months. However, after stepping back and slowly counting down from 10, I'm not as opposed to it, although I don't think it's worded well (Passive voice, more like a list, etc.). It's really quite innocuous. My real concern is that it will incrementally grow to the point where it is disproportionate, and we'll be back fighting about what's POV and what's not. So do we kill the weed while it's still manageable, or just live with it and keep it from spreading too far? What are your thoughts? --Anietor 16:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Mother Theresa and P&T

Quick question...when did you assume ownership of Wikipedia? The P&T reference to MT is not trivia. It is a statement of fact that a nationally syndicated show had a long article about MT. Just because you don't agree with it does not mean it's trivia. Either accept criticism within the body of the article or accept it under its own heading. MrMarmite 14:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
