If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. APFA

[edit]

Hi Michael. Unfortunately, notability is the least of our problems.

  • The article was a copyright violation of this page, clearly marked © - 2012 The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is in the public domain. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
  • It was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. There is actually very little about the organisation, membership, income, expenditure, but lots about its aims and campaigns. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: desired a clearer mandate for themselves... showed it to be an effective quick kill trap... mandate to end the search for a humane trap and oppose the fur-trade in its entirety... cruelty of trapping...
  • Since APFA’s inception, the fur-trade in Canada has gone from a major economic factor to representing less than 0.01 per cent of the GDP — spam, unless you can show cause and effect
  • Articles must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. You did not provide evidence that it is notable, for all we know it might have had a membership of ten people for the whole of its existence. Although you gave references, when I checked them, the first two did not appear to support the claimed text, ref 4 was to a non-RS site (Wikipedia) and the APFA's site is clearly not independent

I hope this helps, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:36, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, I think getting the group to change the copyright is probably not the best solution, since the copied text is not neutral anyway. Better to write a short, properly referenced article giving more facts and less emotive claims. Remember that this page doesn't belong to the organisation, anyone can edit it. You sound like an experienced writer, I'm sure you can come up with something suitable. If you want, you can draft in a sandbox, but that's up to you. Yes, I'm happy to have a look, just let me know when you are ready. It's fine to have one link to the website as an External link, or as a reference if you're using it as a source for non-controversial information Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:24, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've tweaked a bit, but it looks as if you still need to satisfy editors that the organisation is actually notable, membership numbers, income the Gates money or something Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:38, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag.
