Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
  • Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
  • In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.

Arbitration

  • Applications for CheckUser and Oversight are being accepted by the Arbitration Committee until September 12. Community discussion of the candidates will begin on September 18.

CE[edit]

Would you please take up my articles on GOCE? As it seems like that editor has gone into hibernation or something. I would appreciate your help.Krish | Talk 22:52, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Which articles are you referring to? You can ping the editors who accepted your copyedit requests on their talk pages. At the moment, I'm working on the January backlog. All the best, Miniapolis 00:19, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dropping the stick[edit]

Doubtless I should have brought this up earlier, and maybe at the time I was tired of the discussion, but perhaps better later than never. In this edit, note that you were the one wielding the stick and I was only defending myself. It is you who were failing to "drop the stick", but bringing up in an inappropriate forum a disagreement that should have been dealt with elsewhere if at all. If you bring it up again, I will not be violating any norm against failure to "drop the stick" if I respond. Michael Hardy (talk) 02:38, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? What's with the threat to retaliate against something I said (in good faith, in an appropriate forum) over a year ago? Miniapolis 13:28, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There is no threat to retaliate. You brought up a matter that had already been concluded elsewhere in a forum where it was off topic. Michael Hardy (talk) 22:30, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And it was over a year ago. Please don't post on my talk page any more. Miniapolis 22:32, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Question[edit]

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I have requested a copy edit from the Guild of Copy Editors, but am also eager to nominate it for GA status. Can I do both? It's probably a good idea to wait until the copy edit, but that may be a long time waiting. Other than an image situation needing to be dealt with, the article looks ready to be reviewed against the criteria. Cognissonance (talk) 01:25, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because of the copyright problem with the image, I wouldn't nominate the article for GA at the moment; however, you can upload the image to the English Wikipedia with a fair-use rationale for use in this article. It looks like it will be deleted at Commons because of that noncommercial license, which sounds good but isn't for Commons :-). I haven't looked at the prose, and the GA bar is relatively low. If you're getting impatient, solve the image problem and if you think the prose is good enough without a copyedit ... Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 01:38, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
