Recent years

[edit]

Hey, there! I saw that you posted on my talk page, and then deleted it, and I just wanted to take a moment to address your concerns. The recent year guidelines specify that events must be "internationally significant". That phrasing is vague and open to interpretation. So your understanding that the event you posted would meet that standard is not wrong. However, the operating consensus has been that events need to have had a demonstrated international impact. This isn't clearly specified anywhere, and it really should be. But as with just about anything on Wikipedia, if you disagree, there's a place for you to take your concerns. Both the article's talk page and the recent year guidelines talk page would be appropriate. However, given the previous consensus, you're not likely to find much success. If you have any other questions or concerns, don't be afraid to ask. Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 10:07, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Muhammad numan mn, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Reaction to the Bacha Khan University attack has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Jolly Ω Janner 19:21, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 events will be added when the year is completed. There is a very clear notice in the edit space about that. Serendipodous 12:57, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe so but it was added to the wrong year. Also, the various standoffs between India and Pakistan aren't as important as the wars. Serendipodous 13:03, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Geo News, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page SCORE. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

License tagging for File:Isamu Akasaki.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Isamu Akasaki.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:05, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You recently added information to the lead section of the above article. I'm sure you did so in good faith, but the material you added was inapproporiate, since Shaw's Academy Award is already mentioned in the article's lead. The article is currently undergoing review at WP:FAC, as a possible featured article, and its text has been very carefully considered during the review process, including consideration of what should or should not form part of the lead. I have reverted your edit; if you wish to discuss the matter further, please do so by opening a thread on the Shaw article's talkpage and giving your point of view there. Thank you. Proposed deletion of There is a god how the world's most notorious atheist changed his mind

[edit]

The article There is a god how the world's most notorious atheist changed his mind has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Author has created article with no text or sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Image without license

Unspecified source/license for File:Mashal Khan.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mashal Khan.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 17:45, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Murder of Mashal Khan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.  Masum Ibn Musa  Conversation 11:33, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
