Please read our vandalism policy. — zero » 00:57, 3 April 2007 (UTC)- Only administrators can change the protection status of a page. If you want to request that a page is protected or unprotected, please file a request at WP:RFPP. Thanks, Gwernol 00:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
My concern about your username (MyNameIsBillAndILikeIt)
[edit]Hello, MyNameIsBillAndILikeIt, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
* If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
* If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
* You can keep your contributions history under a new username. Visit Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the guidelines there.
Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! — zero » 00:58, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think there is anything wrong with this username. Can someone explain what's wrong with his name or remove this notice? Thanks. -- Hdt83 Chat 01:17, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- this username is long and may be blocked because of this. — zero » 01:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Username is not that long and is ok. Lots of users here have longer usernames that sound wierd (eg. User:Can't Sleep, Clown will eat me). Don't bite the newcomers and always assume good faith. End of discussion. To Bill: Sorry about what happened here. Hopefully you haven't been to put off by what happened. Once again welcome to Wikipedia! -- Hdt83 Chat 08:12, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
The project
[edit]Hello, and welcome. The purpose of Wikipedia is to write an encyclopedia. You are welcome to help with that; if you do not care to, you would do better to go elsewhere. Tom Harrison Talk 01:32, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Another person on my ass!MyNameIsBillAndILikeIt 01:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Come on Tom,the user made his first edit less than one hour ago, and he thought that he was helping prevent vandalism to an administrator's userpage, which had just been vandalized. He did not realize that the templates do not protect pages, only administrators do; in response, he received vandalism warnings and block warnings from someone who is consistently overzealous, then was told his username violates the username policy (which it unequivocally does not), so he followed the instructions in the template he received to go to RFC/N. Could we bite this person any harder in less than 30 minutes?Jesus.—bbatsell ¿? ✍ 01:39, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Bill. I'm sorry things got off to a rough start here. As you may know, Wikipedia receives a lot of vandalism, and sometimes when people are in a hurry they misread the history and think a different editor vandalized the page. I don't believe you've made any inappropriate edits. I hope things will be smoother now. If you have any questions, or if I can help you in any way, please let me know. — Knowledge Seeker দ 05:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Welcome #2!
