AfD page

[edit]

Hi there. It's probably safer I don't participate in these two debates, given my previous history with these articles. I'd rather not side one way or another - but to say so on the AfD page would seem moderately redundant of me. Thank you for the notification, however, and I will make note of the debate as it progresses. Bobo. 21:28, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas.macmillan said: You are right, it is probably best if you don't contribute to the discussions. However, could you speedy keep them? Take another look at the discussions.

Personally I think it would be easier and less work for those involved simply for consensus to take its course and to close the debate when it needs to be. I'm not a particular advocate of WP:SNOWBALL, though I can see its uses, and I think given the article's history and this AfD debate, which I presume will end in a keep vote, this would be an easy, painless, course of action. Thank you. Bobo. 22:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Get Down

[edit]

Why did you put an AfD on this? It's sourced and it is notable. It may be a stub, but I can see a huge article growing here some day with images and much more information. Please remove the request or change your vote. futurebird 00:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a neologism, check it again, I just beefed up the sources. futurebird 02:04, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have you had a chance to look at this again since I added a few more sources and an image. It's really not a neologism. You're just wrong on this one (sorry) and it'd help if you change your vote and explain that at the RfD. I know not everybody has heard about this dance move, so no hard feelings, OK?futurebird 12:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm astounded to read on your user page that you are "interested in many areas of the world and I enjoy trying to lighten Wikipedia's systematic bias by trying to fill the gaps, mainly in the geographic and biographical fields of Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe." And you're calling "get down" a neologism??!! deeceevoice 14:07, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas, I'm trying to be civil. I'm certain you didn't mean for it to seem the way that it did, but since we now have the research on the table do you think you could simply admit being wrong about this AfD? Can you see that it's a little hurtful when you call something that is quite old a “neologism” and then get angry at me for pointing out the error? Especially when there has been a persistent problem with the under representation of Black culture not only on this site but in most of western culture. Calling elements of black cultural heritage “novel” was one of the tactics used to deny black people their heritage and identity in the past. This is why deeceevoice and I are both giving you such a hard time about this AfD. I'm not suggesting that you've done this on purpose-- most people would make that mistake, in fact in the past I have made it, some of these things are still quite new to me and I’m learning about them now. I hope you choose to join me in doing that. And if I came across as condescend that wasn't my intention and I'm sorry.futurebird 17:09, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since the debate seems to be doing rather well, despite its good-faith AfD nomination, I think I shall steer clear of the discussion without offering an opinion, in order to not disrupt the flow of dialogue. Parts of the debate are slightly tenderer than your average. Bobo. 21:01, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Botswana-bio-stub

[edit]

Seems OK to me, from the couple of articles that I looked at. Maybe a job queue thing, or the largely-unrelated change I made helped? Or are there any still "missing" from the category? Alai 23:48, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D'oh, I was looking at the wrong template. Those were in the category, but you'd messed up the sort key (putting everything under "B"). Fixed now. Alai 00:26, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. Shouldn't this also feed into a "people" category, though? Alai 00:55, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I think that's fine, and that this would be consistent with it: one should only use the Africa-bio-stub template if there's no country-specific one (are there any still missing?), but for bio-stubs for which there's no category, the upmerged template would logically also feed in here. (Basically what one should do with any upmerge type with two "natural" parents.) Alai 05:08, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:My thoughts on a problem

[edit]

I must admit that that isn't an area of admin that I'm parrticularly good at, so I'd suggest that WP:AN/I is probably the best place to take it. They've got admins there who are used to handling this sort of problem editor who should be able to solve the problem quickly. Grutness...wha? 04:23, 5 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Kosovo stub type

[edit]

It was rejected at /P (and created anyway, and then deleted at SFD) over a year ago, when there was not enough material for it; that it's been recreated and speedied several times would indeed indicate the contentiousness of the status issue. Since it's a recognised subdivision of Serbia, in theory it should be valid either way... Alai 20:21, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rude

[edit]

I just think that it's rude that you didn't answer at all in all this time, and you're obviously interested in the topic and are politically sided in it; don't get offended. --PaxEquilibrium 23:51, 15 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Hi, Namiba, and welcome to WikiProject
Africa
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to Africa. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Africa-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Africa topics.
  • You may also be interested in joining one of the descendant projects related to a specific African country.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

The project is in its early stages. What would really help out right now if is you could tag and assess Africa-related articles by adding {{AfricaProject|class=}} to the talk pages. Thanks!

Re: José de Canterac

[edit]

Unfortunately that bit of info came from an old copy of Our Lord Don Quixote by Miguel de Unamuno, who cites it from O'Leary's papers. Obviously I can't add an unrelated philosophical volume as a reference, so we'll have to wait till someone gives the article a proper treatment. Albrecht 23:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ref

[edit]

It is not a company, it is a reference to Encyclopedia. Just don't know on which page it is. I know I made this article from that encyclopedia. --Darwinek 21:16, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You ain't listening to me. PWN is a publishing company. It is a six-volume encyclopedia named Encyclopedia PWN. That's all. I am an admin and I hell know how to reference articles! --Darwinek 21:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to insult ya or something like that. I just would expect more open-mind from a fellow WikiProject colleague. And I am a Lord of my talk page, recycling most of new messages. Nothin' personal against ya. - Darwinek 23:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Put a new graphic at Major General...opinion? Thanks. --SigPig |SEND - OVER 23:23, 23 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

krio people

[edit]

I added Thomas Peters to my category of Krio people because he was under the headline notable Krios in the article Sierra Leone Krios. Not all Krios are necessarily born Krio but have characteristics of Krios-like William John Campbell was a mayor of Freetown yet he was a Nigerian. Being Krio is also a way of life I suppose or a behavioral pattern. Speaking of which, I am wondering if you could help me find information on Mayors of Freetown especially William John Campbell. Your help and comments are much appreciated thank you very much. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wikiaddict8962 (talk • contribs) 22:06, 28 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
