Yatesbury[edit]

Hi theleekycauldron, I saw your edit on Devizes Plot. p.177 of Whiting goes "... based for a time at RAF Yatesbury in Wiltshire, which Koenig had hoped to sieze during the great march on London...", which is why I was confident enough to put the sieze bit in DYK. Is there something I'm missing? Pahunkat (talk) 18:56, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Pahunkat: works for me! Couldn't find that in the source, but i couldn't see the whole book, so that's cool. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 18:57, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. To be fair, 78 only references them stealing a mosquito, the mention of actually seizing it comes later at 177. The full book should be on the open library, I tend to only use sources I can get for free off the internet because I'm a cheapskate for convenience. De Normann mentions Yatesbury in a different context, on how two prisoners tried to steal a plane from there in a previous escape attempt, but doesn't contradict the statement from what I can tell. ASC[edit]

I returned from a father's day dinner to find that not only was the nom gone, but the entire discussion of the nom had been removed as well and the link on my talk page was already dead. Reading from the history (always easy) I am still not clear on how to move forward. You say an admin can reopen it. I am an admin, does that mean I can reopen it? Maury Markowitz (talk) 11:45, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Maury Markowitz: I would say that your next step is to ask at Wikipedia talk:Did you know and gauge opinion there. If consensus seems in favor, I don't think people will mind you re-opening. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 01:44, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Before I do, can you offer reasons the consensus might *not* be in favor, and what might I do to avoid that? Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:13, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Maury Markowitz: Mainly, it'd be that your hook already had a run on the Main Page, and that it'd be unfair to give it a second try. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 21:47, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Potential hook[edit]

I had to retract my hook at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Queue 3 for Ella Scoble Opperman because the statement came from someone who was involved with the same college. I was wondering if you could see if either of my two new suggestions work. If not, that's fine too. Just thought I would ask. SL93 (talk) 22:02, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SL93: Since Amakuru is the admin on the case, I'm going to let him take first crack; if he doesn't respond and there's less than 12 hours left on the clock, feel free to ping me. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 22:24, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll have more time to look at this tomorrow evening hopefully. We've got a few days till the hook runs anyway. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 22:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Thank you. I didn't realize we had a few more days. SL93 (talk) 22:27, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: DYKFICTION[edit]

Don't know if you saw the ping, but RoySmith recommended I ask you this question. I've always thought the section on WP:DYKFICTION was too ambiguous for me to make heads or tails of it. Can you do me a favor and take a glance at the hook here and let me know if you think it passes DYKFICTION? I feel like I still don't have a good grasp on this guideline. Viriditas (talk) 20:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Viriditas: I'd say it's a borderline case. On the one hand, it is a play on the contents of the song. On the other hand, it's a song, not a novel or more free-form of fiction, the hook itself technically turns on a point of critical analysis of the plot, and it is fairly hooky. I'd personally say the hook is probably fine, but the article needs some major cleanup. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 20:39, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you can point me in the direction of targeted cleanup, I might be able to help. As for WP:DYKFICTION is it intentionally ambiguous? I don't like that. Viriditas (talk) 20:42, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Viriditas: I'm seeing quite a few unreliable sources and possibly an NEVENT fail. DYKFICT isn't intentionally ambiguous, but what constitutes a work of fiction under the guidelines isn't nailed down by common-law precedent. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 21:18, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for being specific in your criticism. Well, we do have 438 articles about Category:Viral videos, so there is some precedent for notability in terms of the topic. There are additional reliable sources about the article in question behind paywalls, such as on the German language site Rheinische Post, but I can't access it. Viriditas (talk) 21:30, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I figured it out. Adding the three articles from RP now. Thanks for being a sounding board. Viriditas (talk) 22:04, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User page[edit]

I never did tell you that I really like your user page. It's a lot more fun and interesting than mine :) The Night Watch (talk) 18:47, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, The Night Watch! I've been looking for ways to spruce up my signature, can't figure out what I want to do :P theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 07:20, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the same color as your user page title coloring? Just an idea. I'm probably going to redesign my user page once I get back from my break. I'll hopefully be more lighthearted then and less gloomy as I usually am. :P The Night Watch (talk) 17:06, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you![edit]

Thank you for your effort in closing the ADL multi-RFC. It is greatly appreciated. starship.paint (RUN) 15:32, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for closing it! VR (Please ping on reply) 18:28, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A TARDIS for you[edit]

A rouge TARDIS (or the closest thing I could find on Commons), for having made a closure so Rouge that its effects travelled through time and were being challenged before you even issued it.
. . .
But to be serious, I appreciate that you undertook to close, and closed so thoughtfully, such a large and complex discussion even as it was getting international attention and pushback. Someone had to do it; the discussion was open for so long as to suggest no-one wanted to do it; I appreciate you doing it. -sche (talk) 16:08, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Chetsford, Starship.paint, and -sche: Thank you all for the lovely gifts! (particularly love the wish.com TARDIS, copyright being what it is.) Seriously, it means quite a lot :) and of course, my thanks to my co-conspirators The Wordsmith and Tamzin. Wouldn't wanna get indirectly trashed on the morning news with anyone else. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 01:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for thoughts[edit]

I am working on User:SL93/Iowa's Best Burger contest for DYK was I wondering if any of what I have so far sounds promotional. I haven't been to any of the restaurants listed, and I don't want to add anything that could come across as promoting them. I came across the subject in a book that has a chapter dedicated to it. SL93 (talk) 03:41, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SL93: Hey! The "Winners" section strikes me as slightly promotional. Perhaps it could be condensed to a simple table? On a broader note, at some point I should really get around to writing Wikipedia:Cobbled sources make cobbled articles. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 04:38, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I meant to do a table, but I’m not sure how to do it. SL93 (talk) 04:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TFA[edit]

Thank you today for Capri-Sun, written together, introduced: "Capri-Sun debuted in West Germany in 1969. Since then, it has become a global brand, one made distinctive by its stand-up Doy-N-Pack pouch. Growing up, you could find a Capri-Sun in the lunchbox of that kid you hated. These days you can find them center-stage in French hip-hop culture as "the new ostentatious elixir of French rappers and gangsters". In the United States, Capri Sun is associated with wholesome things like picnics, soccer practice, and having for 16 years been licensed to one of the world's largest tobacco companies, which applied its expertise at both selling products to children and misleading the public about products' health effects, in a marketing strategy so effective that you're probably still thinking about that kid from two sentences ago. Childhood consumption of sugary beverages increased, and so did childhood obesity, but admittedly Pacific Cooler does taste great. - Initially, Tamzin and I thought this was gonna be a quick adventure – we thought we'd quickly flip a good number of soft drink articles, maybe even get a good topic. Capri-Sun quickly proved to be no insignificant task, though – it's the longest article either of us can put our names on, with every word of prose written from scratch. To our knowledge, this is the most comprehensive independent work on Capri-Sun in existence. We got it to GA in early 2023 after a couple months' work, making it one of two GAs on a soft drink and the only one on a juice beverage. Then, it just sat for a while. But after dusting off the ol' thing and giving it the last few bits it was missing, it is with much pride and added sugar that we finally push this towards the finish line. :)"! - June thanks for improving article quality ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:28, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Admin's Barnstar
I stated in the discussion below the vote that I felt quite bad for whichever poor admin got tasked with closing the ADL RfC - props for being one of the ones to do so! The Kip (contribs) 21:39, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
