How to merge a template

Hello PC-XT. You recommended a merge at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2013 February 10#Template:Moogfest 2010. I am thinking of closing some TfD discussions. How is a template merge done? Do you just subst the template into the article? Is anything special done about the edit history of the template? Thanks for any advice. EdJohnston (talk) 06:01, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Yes, for Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2013_February_10#Template:Mw_mages, as a passing suggestion, I mentioned a merge with a list in the Mage_Wars article. I was thinking of either adding something to each list item, or replacing it with the table from the template, myself, but wasn't sure about it, either, and just left it. The template didn't have much more information, so it was hardly worth doing. PC-XT (talk) 00:11, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot to say that in the one before that I was just seconding Frietjes' suggestion, but I see it's already been closed. PC-XT (talk) 12:16, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Kurdish separatism in Iran article

Hi, i would like to notify you that articles Kurdish separatism in Iran and Rebellions in Iranian Kurdistan are proposed to be merged. Previously a related discussion was held at proposal to rename "Kurdish separatism in Iran" -> "Kurdish insurgency in modern Iran" (WP:RM was rejected). In addition, the template:Campaignbox Kurdish separatism in Iran was later split ([1] into new template:Campaignbox Kurdish–Iranian conflict, but was consequently remerged via a community consensus (see discussion). Current merger discussion is held at Kurdish separatism in Iran#Proposed merge with Kurdish separatism in Iran.Greyshark09 (talk) 08:09, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I may reply at Talk:Kurdish separatism in Iran#Proposed merge with Kurdish separatism in Iran. -PC-XT+ 03:00, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Can you offer your opinion on which photo would be better for the Rebecca Housel Infobox in this discussion? If you are unable to, I understand; you don't have to reply to this message. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 03:36, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

I have been absent for over a month, but I will look at the photos, now. :) -PC-XT+ 02:09, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Infobox Photo Discussion

Hi. Can you offer your opinion in this discussion regarding the better photo for an article Infobox? Thanks, and Happy Holidays. Nightscream (talk) 23:49, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Coordinates

Thank you very much for the barnstars! In answer to your question, could you change it to a geography one? By the way, does your username refer to the computer of the same name? Green Giant (edits) (talk) 10:51, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Yes, on both counts. —PC-XT+ 11:01, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Section editing and references

Regarding something you wrote at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Automatically_prompt_editors_before_saving_common_mistakes, I would recommend using Anomie's Ajax Preview, which adds an extra button between Save and Preview, and allows you to view a section with refs laid out. The added bonus is that you avoid the mistake of leaving Reflist in the section by accident. :) Green Giant (talk) supports NonFreeWiki 01:26, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey, thanks! I'll check that out! —PC-XT+ 01:37, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

"'Help to create template"'

Goodday sir, I am a new user. Please could you help on how to create templates for my user page. Thanks in anticipation.-Medara Bassey (talk) 10:13, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! I'll leave a note on your talk page. —PC-XT+ 10:24, 2 April 2014 (UTC) (replied here)

Templates

Thanks sir. This is the infobox template I need:

name: myinfo

parameters: name, sex, date of birth, nationality, language, location, occupation.

I dont want to use infobox templates created by others. I want to know how to create one by myself.

Please show me how you programmed this template, from the begining to the end. I may have to add more parameters in the future.

Medara Bassey (talk) 11:15, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I might suggest looking at Infobox user. It has a lot of those parameters. Since you want to make and use your own template, you can make it in userspace. I might suggest creating the page User:Medara Bassey/infobox for this purpose. Most people base their infobox templates on infobox, but you don't need to. In the template page you create, try this code to make a table:

Name: || {}
Gender: || {}

You can expand the table with more options. Then, on your userpage, place the name of the template you just created, and its parameters, inside curly braces, for example . If you use a parameter that isn't in triple braces in the template, it won't show up. There are a lot of other things you can do with templates and parameters. For more on tables, see Help:Table. —PC-XT+ 11:34, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Article link

Goodday sir. Please I want to create a template named User:Medara Bassey/show article. Name of article is a parameter. Assuming the value is: National Examination Council (Nigeria), The template should open this wikipedia's article. How do I code this template? I'll be gratefull. Medara Bassey (talk) 15:02, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

How do you want the link to the article to appear on the page? You can use National Examination Council (Nigeria) to display an article with its title. The code is National Examination Council (Nigeria). You can add parameter code in a template, so it becomes {} or {article}. To change link display, use {text}. For more info, see Help:Link#Wikilinks. —PC-XT+ 20:11, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
You can add that code to a row in an infobox table: (Example to the right)
Page: National Examination Council (Nigeria)
Information: This page is about NECO and further information...

Page: || {Page}
Information: || {}
—PC-XT+ 20:42, 2 April 2014 (UTC) 21:02, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Or, here is another style:
National Examination Council (Nigeria)
This page is about NECO and further information...
+ {Page}
{}

Hi. Can you offer your opinion in the consensus subthread of this discussion? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 18:23, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for inviting me. I've been away, but the discussion there seems to have found reasonable consensus I would have supported. Cheers! —PC-XT+ 18:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Signature DYK

Hi PC-XT. I noticed you're signature includes tt tages. Did you know those are obsolete in HTML5? I personally don't care much about it, but for neatness sake you could change them. Quoting W3C: "Where the tt element would have been used for marking up keyboard input, consider the kbd element; for variables, consider the var element; for computer code, consider the code element; and for computer output, consider the samp element." Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:31, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I used to use that tag a lot, and I keep forgetting it was deprecated and is now obsolete. I updated my signature because I don't like the idea of spreading obsolete tags around the encyclopedia, even if it is only on talk pages. I expect obsolete tags will only be ignored, so it's probably not worth going back and editing any old signatures. —PC-XT+ 03:14, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for notification of speedy deetion nomination of Template:OTRS Pending Cc-by-sa-3.0

Hi PC-XT:

Thanks for the notification regarding the improper tag for images. This was my first article, and I made a "newbe" mistake of improperly mashing together two templates that are supposed to be separate — OTRS Pending and Copyright License Tags

I was responding to instructions of an editor that voiced concern over copyright on images to avoid premature deletion. It is my understanding that this problem related to the notification is is solved now.

I received written permission from the copyright owner for the use of all images in the article, and this has been forwarded to Media Commons and is on file with Media Commons.

I am currently working with Media Commons to rectify the needed copyright clearances and other tags that need to be placed on all images.

Wanted to place this on your talk page as well to be sure you got the message. Niknakc (talk) 21:57, 21 November 2014 (UTC)Please let me know if there are any other problems that need addressing. Again, I appreciate your assistance.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll reply on your page. :) —PC-XT+ 03:14, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
