Helpme

[edit]

Hello, what is the problem? Teh tennisman 16:31, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Helpme answer

[edit]

Well, its not exactly a problem, but its a question. Who designed, made and published wikipedia?Oh, and does wikipedia invite users to find and create the Article of the day? Can I do it tomorrow? User:PNI 16:35, 14 October 2006

The article of the day is a Featured Article that hasbeen voted upon after reaching Good Article status, so no, individuals do not write it specifically for Featured Article of the Day status. And as for Wikipedia's origins, see here.Teh tennisman 16:49, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sometime in January, can a featured picture be the one of R.O.B. in this picture? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Robkart.jpg

See information on featured pictures and picture of the day. --pgk 18:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can users get banned on Wikipedia?

Yes, users can get banned on wikipedia, generally this is for vandalism or some other act of intentional damage to wikipedia. It isn't something normal users need to really worry about though. For more information see Wikipedia:Banning policy. If you have any other questions let us know :) - cohesion 19:15, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Wikipedia is a project to build a free online encyclopedia, people who try to use wikipedia for other purposes or disrupt that goal can be blocked from editing for periods of time or in some cases banned totally. The number of things is quite varied things such as using it as a personal blog, or placing copyrighted material (written by others and without a free license), uploading copyright image, misattributing images (e.g. Claiming you produced them and can allow them to be used, when in fact they belong to someone else), vandalism, engaging in personal attacks and making legal threats to name but a few. You can read abou blocking here, and bans here. --pgk 19:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can i see a list of all the people banned?

The block log contains a list of all blocks. The page I pointed you to earlier contains a link to a list of those formally banned, though there are many many more effectively banned as they have been indefinitely blocked for vandalism etc. --pgk 21:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who created the N game article?

Look at the page history. —Centrxtalk • 18:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How many users are ussually on Wikipedia a day?

You may like to look at www.alexa.com. Personally I have no idea but according to Alexa we are the 17th most visited site. Are you gathering all this info for some project? You will get a lot of these answers at WP:FAQ -- Lost(talk) 19:15, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, actually I just wanna know. Ya know, so I can pass info to people at N Wikia.(PNI 19:19, 1 November 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Helpme

[edit]

Hey guys. Anyone wanna chat on my User Page for awhile? I'm gonna be on here for a while.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with what Wikipedia is about?
LittleOldMe 17:21, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, ok then. I'm just lonely. So wikipedia isn't my webpage. I haven't done anything either.(PNI 16:50, 3 November 2006 (UTC)) And also what {{helpme}}s are for. Requesting help with editing Wikipedia, take a look here. Then follow the links to the "Coffee Club/Lounge" etc.. _that_'s for chatting. Also, you Use IRC, and join channel #wikipedia on irc.freenode.net, if you have an IRC client, click here. If not, get one :) Slater — Deon555talkdesk 16:04, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NameChanging

[edit]

I wanna change my name. Is it possible?

It is possible, at Wikipedia:Changing username, but you have not made many edits to the encyclopaedia so you may be better off creating a new account. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:47, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've created a new account. I probably won't be using this account anymore, so ban me and put in the description "Potential CIA agent: we aren't taking any chances"

That will not be necessary - you can simply stop using this account. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:33, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm back. How do I put images into an article that I am creating?

Simple. Upload an image (click the "Upload File" in the toolbox to your left), then use [[Image:image name.jpg]] to link to it - Dinnerbone (Talk/Cont) 16:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Helpme request

[edit]

{{helpme}} How do you know that stuff is copyrighted when someone adds an article? PNI 17:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are danger signs to watch for: if there is a lot of text without any formatting, or formatted in HTML, and which doesn't look like the sort of thing that someone would write in real time, that's a good sign that an article might be a copyright violation; in such a case newpage patrollers would try to discover the source to prove it as copyvio. There's also a bot which tries to detect copyright violations, and there are other ways in which a copyright violation might be detected. --ais523 17:13, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

And if they continue to put copyright stuff on Wikipedia? PNI 17:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then we have a range of warnings we can give to them, and eventually they might be blocked if they continue. --ais523 08:53, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

How Many Wikis are there?

[edit]

{{helpme}} How many wikis are there, like Mario Wiki, N wiki, IPod wiki, Nascar wiki etc.?PNI 15:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikis most of the time don't have any relationship with Wikipedia, even if some use the same software (ie MediaWiki) to run their website. Wikipedia just happens to be the bigest Wiki out there :). So I don't think anyone knows an extensive list of all Wiki on the internet. Hope I could help! -- lucasbfr talk 15:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PNI. Did you need something? I saw you left a jot at my desk, and wondered if you needed any help? If not, that's fine. I don't mind a friendly note :) Don't forget testing goes in the sandbox, or if you want to get personal, throw something in mine. When I got on to this computer, I found out that someone before me had vandalized some articles, such as Sumerian language and Mount Everest. What was the computer ID? PNI 19:55, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the top of each page where is a History tab that allow you to see who did what on every page and to go back to a previous version of an article. Hope that helps! -- lucasbfr talk 20:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Judging from the history at Mount Everest, you appear to be looking for 206.191.28.67. Let us know if you needed anything past that. Luna Santin 20:55, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How many donations has Wikipedia received? Where can I find all the facts about Wikipedia? PNI 14:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Try http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Fundraising . That should have at least some of the information you're looking for. Just a reminder, though: The {{helpme}} is intended to be for help with technical problems, or the mechanics of Wikipedia. If you're looking for answers to research questions (like above), a better choice might be Wikipedia:Reference desk. —PurpleRAIN 14:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's a sockpuppet?

See Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. —PurpleRAIN 19:47, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Some people make secondary accounts. We call them sock-puppets. It's is highly frowned upon and a person useing sockpuppets can get blocked. See WP:SOCK for more info. ---J.S (T/C) 19:49, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More help

[edit]

{{helpme}} It said before that I had made vandalism earlier today, but it was some kids in my class. Can you remove those warnings that you have put on me? PNI 19:45, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a friendly advice: make sure you log out when someone might use your computer to prevent such things (personally I do) ;) Happy Editing! -- lucasbfr talk 20:26, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Test, no need to answer.PNI 17:47, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you're testing, but I'm going to remove this template. As long as it is here, your name shows up in Category:Wikipedians looking for help. It will be confusing and frustrating for people if your name remains listed there when you aren't actually looking for help. —PurpleRAIN 17:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
