Article categorization

[edit]

Please have a look at Wikipedia:Categorization#Articles and observe that it says "an article should be categorised under the most specific branch in the category tree possible, without duplication in parent categories above it" Placing North Tonawanda, New York in Category:Sundown towns in the United States is redundant to Category:Sundown towns in New York (state). The latter category exists in a subtree of the former. Thus, it isn't necessary nor appropriate per the guideline quoted to include both of these categories. I am reverting your re-addition of Category:Sundown towns in the United States per the guideline. Please do not restore it. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 11:56, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. IdreamofJeanie (talk) 01:27, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hammersoft: @IdreamofJeanie: @Adolphus79: I was just wondering whether these reverted edits still count toward the "number of edits" requirement for the IP block exemption. (Don't waste your time researching this question, I just scratch my head over WP policies that seem like they may reward counter-productive behavior.)
Of course, I'm aware of WP:AGF, but a little common sense should make a reasonable person pause before acting, when they discover some seeming anomaly, such as these towns not being explicitly listed in the "United States" list. Fabrickator (talk) 02:36, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Eeep! I'm just here, man... don't include me in any thanks, I'm just trying to protect the wiki... - Adolphus79 (talk) 02:53, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning

[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Benton, Kentucky. --Hammersoft (talk) 02:42, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please note Hammersoft's earlier comment regarding categories on wikipedia. if an article is in "XX in california" then it is automatically included in "XX in US" category, (because "XX in California" is itself in "XX in US" category) and does not need to be added to the larger category as well. thanks IdreamofJeanie (talk) 02:50, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on USNS John Lewis (T-AO-205). This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. - wolf 12:09, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Added note

[edit]

Slow edit wars are still just that and are disruptive, hence thw warning you've just been given (and that also is required prior to any report to an administrative board seeking sanctions against your account for this behaviour.)

There is a widely-followed principle known as WP:BRD that you are failing to abide by;

  • B - you make a Bold edit,
  • R - it gets Reverted,
  • D - you then Discuss the matter on the talk page.

This logging in every few weeks just to make this sole revert, then leaving again is not contributing to this project, it's tendentious and net-negative. I strongly suggest you stop these reverts and take your issue to the talk page and discuss, as you are required to do. - wolf 12:24, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
