major / minor

[edit]

In the English Wikipedia, the modes a C major, A major, ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:41, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I made the changes to major and minor because they were used in titles of works and should therefore be uppercase. They would be lower case is just used in sentences. Paulmellison (talk) 15:11, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The changes were made in the interest of accuracy, using accepted norms for musical titles. It’s disappointing to see that they haven’t been retained. Paulmellison (talk) 16:03, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds logical, but I see Slominsky writes Mozart's "Mass in C minor" and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Classical_music/Guidelines#Keys:_capitalization seems the local convention. I'm still in the habit of "Major" and "minor" myself ;-) Sparafucil (talk) 01:58, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Chicago Manual of Style-arguably the ultimate arbiter of such issues-recommends capital letter for major and minor in titles of works, as to other manuals concerned with writing about music. (I’m happy to list them if it would be helpful.) how would we go about trying to make a change to wiki style guides here? I feel pretty strongly about this. Paulmellison (talk) 11:02, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music/Guidelines, but it looks like an uphill fight to me, even if you've got Grout and Geck's translator both on your side. Boyd's Oxford Composer Companion J. S. Bach considers "Mass in B minor" correct. Sparafucil (talk) 14:49, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up! I did take a look. Curious as to how I might go about suggesting this change. Do I send the suggestion to someone specific?

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page List of Anglo-Catholic churches, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can (bot)&section=new report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 17:13, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
