Welcome![edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Edits to Wikipedia, such as your edit to the page Jean Houymet, may not contain material from copyrighted sources unless that text is available under a suitable free license. It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances. Content that does not comply with this legal rule must be removed. For more information on this, see:

If you still have questions, there is the Teahouse, or you can click here to ask a question on your talk page and someone will be along to answer it shortly. As you get started, you may find the pages below to be helpful.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! — Diannaa (talk) 14:01, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning!
I'm currently uploading the translation of the French page of this article.
I have all the sources and copyrights to publish this article, I'm simply working my way through citing everything right now.
Thank you for your understanding and i will make sure that everything is up to date ASAP :) Planglois012 (talk) 14:56, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with... I'm currently under contract from Denis Ouimet to upload the translation of this wikipedia page https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Houymet and publish it on the English page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Houymet The problem is that Denis Ouimet gave me a word document with the text that I need to upload but the same text is also available on this website: https://www.associationouimet.net/history-of-jean-ouimet

What's the best way for me to prove that I have permission to publish the text on Wikipedia and not get all my work deleted because of a copyright issue? Planglois012 (talk) 15:09, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You must first make the Terms of Use required paid editing disclosure. 331dot (talk) 15:17, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just added it to my user page. I'm just uploading a text that has been written by the Association Ouimet to Wikipedia.
How can I be sure that my work will not be deleted based on copyrights infringement? Planglois012 (talk) 15:33, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The text will have to be altered to include inline citations and altering the tonality to become more formal. Is that okay within the contract you're under? I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 15:46, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The text that is available online at https://www.associationouimet.net/history-of-jean-ouimet appears to predate its inclusion at the French Wikipedia in October 2016. ("The French version of this text was revised in 2009 by Céline Ouimet-Larivière, Monique Ouimet-Drolet, Richard Ouimet and in 2016 by Madeleine Ouimet-Théorêt. The English version was revised by Barry MacKenzie and Brian Christensen. This text will posted later in a Wikipedia article.") Because it was previously published, it is copyright protected, and cannot be copied to Wikipedia unless released under a compatible license.
If the copyright holder wishes to do this, please see WP:Requesting copyright permission for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa (talk) 18:21, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

October 2023[edit]

Copyright problem icon Your edit to Jean Houymet has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. — Diannaa (talk) 23:01, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We can't take your word for it that you have permission to copy from that website. We need to have documentation that shows the copyright holders have given permission for the material to be copied to this website. Wikipedia has procedures in place for this purpose. Please see WP:Donating copyrighted materials for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa (talk) 23:06, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We went through the whole process already of requesting copyright permission. Denis Ouimet, Author of the text and owner of the https://www.associationouimet.net/history-of-jean-ouimet Webiste sent an email based on the template WP:Consent.
Here's what we wrote to Wikipedia:

We've received this answer:
Bonjour Denis Ouimet,
Cordialement,
Otto Ottensen
Based on the answer from Wikipedia, there was no problem with publishing the text from the Website to Wikipedia.
Can you confirm that if all the steps in the Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials are followed, the updates that I do to the Jean Houymet page will stop being deleted? I've passed countless hours updating the page for it to always be deleted.
Is there a way to undo the delete that you did once all the copyrights problems are solved?
Thank you very much and I'm waiting to hear back from you Planglois012 (talk) 00:25, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Courtesy ping to Diannaa, noting that there was a ticket sent in for the French version which has yet to be checked for the English page. Primefac (talk) 09:43, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps the person checked against the version where the overlapping content had already been removed. Since there's a pending ticket noted on the article talk page I am going to restore the content for now, to make it easier for the VRT agents to assess, and hopefully issue the required ticket. — Diannaa (talk) 18:45, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
