There was absolutely nothing wrong you have done. The notice on using an edit summary was just an advice to you. Using an edit summary is very important so that any editor who is reviewing the edits may not mistake it to be vandalism.
I see that you have already uploaded a nice image (the one you changed in the infobox here). In any case if you need any assitance for the same, please go through WP:UPI. I was talking of adding the images of WDP-4 & WDP-4B in the EMD GT46PAC article.
Regarding responding on my talk page, it is the appropriate place to do so. But here in wikipedia, for continuity on the discussion, we usually respond at the same place, ie, if someone has posted something on you talk page, instead of responding on their talk, you may respond here itself for continuity of the thread and send a {{talkback}} notification to the user. For me you don't have to send the talkback notification as your talk page is on my watchlist.
You and your friend Dheerajrao have captured these beasts really well. That's really good work.
