Help with footnotes at Appalachian dulcimer

Greetings, saw you stated you're not familiar with the footnoting system. It's not anywhere near as bad as it seems, so quick to learn.

If you want the full instructions, WP:FOOTNOTES covers it quite well. But in brief, and this is assuming you're on an existing article that has a "References" or "Notes" section, all you need to do is type <ref> at the start of your footnote, and </ref> at the end of it. The "/" in coding means "done". So, for example, here's how I'd do a basic cite:

The last traditional player of the [[Swedish bagpipe]] died during World War II.<ref>Jan Gunderson. ''History of Swedish Folk Music''. Oslo Press, 1983. Pg. 43</ref>

If the book/article you have is physical paper in front of you, just type in the details in a standard format like that. If it's a link somewhere (somewhere authoritative, not a forum, some dude's fanpage, etc), then you can add an external link to words like this: [http://www.history.sv/Gunderson-folk-book.html ''History of Swedish Folk Music''] within the ref. The brackets tell the coding to display the words as linked to the URL (make sure to leave one space following the URL).

Those are the basics, and I'd certainly encourage you to always focus on sourcing. That which is unsourced is easily challenged and always suspect. That which is sourced is tons better; technically the best policy is "sources first, editing second."

Also, will the doubled brackets sample automatically link to an existing wiki page, or do I need to type in the link somewhere?
