Promotional article

[edit]

I've declined the speedy for two reasons. The first is that the article did not have any sources that would really show how the company passes notability guidelines. You have WP:PRIMARY sources and a link to a Wikipedia article, none of which can show notability. The second and main reason is that the page was so blatantly promotional that even if sources were on the page that asserted notability, it would still be declined on that basis alone. It's so unambiguously promotional that I've actually nominated it for speedy deletion as promotion. I don't normally do this with AfC drafts, but this was so promotional that you would have to re-write it completely to remove all of the promotional prose.

If you do re-write this, please do not write about how much better it is for people to self-publish. You can give a very brief overview of the services that the publisher offers, but it must be extremely brief and it must not go into detail about how helpful it would be and so on. The same thing goes for content about people who work for the company. Less is more. I would also recommend that you not include a full list of what the company publishes, as this can be seen as a bit WP:INDISCRIMINATE- especially since the list is so long. If anything I would recommend that you summarize this as follows: "Empire Publishing is a self-publishing and marketing company that was launched in 2012 by Steven K Craig, a graphic artist, graphic designer, and author. The company publishes both non-fiction and fiction in a number of categories, including travel and historical fiction." That's a short and sweet summary of the company and it removes the promotional prose. However even if you do go this way, you will still need to provide WP:RS to show that the company passes notability guidelines per WP:CORP. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:05, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Empire Publishing, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:05, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
