Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Given that all of your editing here at WP has been focused on the work of M dot strange, I need to ask you if you have a close relationship with this person. If so, you have what we call a "conflict of interest". This matters because while you can create and edit articles that are in draft while having a COI, once articles go to main space anyone with a COI is asked not to edit them directly. (Draft space is an exception because the articles are being reviewed by neutral parties.)

The main requirement if you do have a COI is transparency. See below for how to make the appropriate COI declarations on articles. You are still invited to participate by making suggested edits on the talk page and discussing edits with other editors. And of course you can freely edit any articles on WP where you do not have a conflict of interest.

Here's the "blurb" on COI with links and instructions. Please respond to me to let me know that you've understand and agree to follow the community's guidelines on this:

Information icon Hello, RMu. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.
